  1. Most of the doctors gather data and consider a 60% loss as success. They use the mid bmi weight of normal based on your height and subtract it from your first appointment weight.. Success is losing 60% of that. I really think this is majorly flawed. For example... I weighed in at 272 on my first appt. they say my normal bmi should be 137... They say their goal for me is 191 which is 60% so when i hit 191, i will be addedto the success data. I lost like 40 lbs before surgery and will hit goal perhaps within a few months post surgery and i will still weigh 191 OBESE at 5'6 but will be called a success on the books!!! Using a straight bmi chart is wrong, but i guess they need a place to begin. But further, at least calculate the 60% from the surgery day weight!... Which i have made my first goal... And my final goal is closer to the high end of the normal bmi range. Now to answer your real question... Many will yell at me, but after reading progress posts for months and months, it seems a good average loss for the first 6 months or so is about 8-10 per month. And of course.. Many factors impact this. Perhaps someone with some good hard data will chime in and correct me since my answer is based solely on what people are posting.
  2. I think you are on the right track.. A sweet cold protein shake, warm unjury chicken soup, g2 for the needed carbs, and one more... A protein sports drink like designer whey blitz or isopure... You might also consider just a few muscle milks for something thats milk free. All these can be in small numbers in case your tastes change or your new tummy does not like them. Variety/various options - is key.

    I got the puppy!

Omg...how awful! My only hope is that this was meant to be...meaning maybe there is another little one out there who needs a home and will only be complete if you choose him.
  4. Oh yeah... I have the exact same thing.. I take a sip to make sure throat is wet pop it in with Water and swallow..then wash it down with more sips just like you. All the pills are really an irritation but just part of it! I think the frustration is well worth the super body we will be strutting!

  6. You might want to grab flintstones complete chewables and take them until you are further out then go back to the capsules. I had to try several to find what worked.

5'6" and weighed 225-235 surgery day?

5'6 and 60 yrs old. Went from 272 to 237 from seminar date and while on 2 week preop.. Left hospital at 237 and still weighed 237 at two week checkup... A bit discouraging but knew to stay the course. A few days later began losing 1 or 2 lbs every day. Now about 10 lbs in less than 10 days. Lost 4 the first 2 days of starting soft foods! Patience is the key.. Sleeve losers lose weight in a stair step pattern... Lose, stabalize and adjust our system, lose, stabalize and adjust, etc etc. dont wory about the no loss periods. Keep true to the plan and loss will start up again when your system is ready. Good luck!

    showering

I had surgery wed afternoon and was discharged friday morning with approval to shower then. No specific restrictions other than to not scrub over my incisions. I had to use hebiclenz prior to surgery for 4 days and they suggested just using it over my tummy so i washed it first with my hands and then soaped up with my usual shower gel everywhere else.
  9. IT WILL COME.. I was just like you but boy was i wrong! I was sleeved 1/30. I felt no restriction but was careful not to drink too much since our tummy is pretty numb the first few weeks and can be injured. Meds, water, etc went down fine. I started soft foods after 3 weeks. First was a soft scrambled egg. Little bites and only 2 oz which was not a whole egg. No problems and had no feelings of being stuffed, no feelings of fullness... Really no feeling at all. Next day i added, as directed, 1 oz of soft baked tilapia first, then 1 oz of boiled to mush green beans... Same thing.. No feeling, other than.. Yum that was good and glad it all sat on my stomach wel, but damn, that went down too easil..what the hey! Then comes yesterday! About 4 pm i put a piece of salmon in foil and soft cooked it.. Measured out 2 oz and began my 20minute nibble/chew to liquid process. Before i could eat it all.. Probably 15 minutes out, i was hit with an OMG there it is feeling! I was stuffed, uncomfortable and scared that i had stuffed my esophagus and stomach to overfull and would have problems. I was miserable for a good 45 min but finally felt better. This was the first dense protein i had eaten and i do have good restriction. I now need to protect it! Once I am a little further out, i will be adding chicken and beef and those dense proteins will be eaten first. I know, very clearly, that other proteins, the soft ones, tend to move on through easily, but those dense choices will get that good seal in the bottom of my stomach i have been waiting for! This was really huge for me... I had read and read, over and over to be patient, that the restriction would be there with the return to dense proteins...AND to not over do it! And what did i do? Over did it! I think my history of failure reared its ugly head and made me doubt how well i would do with the sleeve because at 3 weeks down the road, i had done every tiny thing asked of me and even with tilapia and green beans, regular food, i could eat/ drink very close to the way i had been preop. Please believe those vets that post and say you will feel the restriction because you will! Take this time to walk more, rest more and learn about you and do not spend any time with worry about restriction! Plan to take the few weeks needed to heal well and then always follow the rules... Dense protein first!

    Frustrated

They probably already have you penciled in on their schedule and know the time needed to get the insurance approval done so are getting to it as needed. The numbers of these is rising quickly so they pace themselves as needed.

    Girdle after surgery?

I think a true girdle would be too tight. I got the stomach support band from motherhood that was posted awhile back, but it was too big and really gave no support so i used it only once. I found that i really did not need anything anyway. I had a pillow coming home in the car but it was only psychological support and not truly needed. I do kind of hold my hand to my middle when i cough or sneeze, thinking it will hurt, but once again, not truly needed. The only time i really needed support was the first week or two when lying down on my side and a pillow works well for that. Long story short... Toss your money in a jar for new clothes rather than spend on a temporary, probably unneeded garment. Just my two cents.
  15. ..or nuke a chocolate one on a cold evening for hot chocolate! Yum

Isopure leaves a film in my mouth

Early on it is good to cut it with gatorade or g2 for the extra carbs...which are usually too low the first couple of weeks yet needed for energy and for the body to correctly function.

    I got the puppy!

Hats off to all who go the rescue route for a new pet! There are so very many ..too many...who need homes.
  18. My paperwork says do not expose incisions to sunlight.
  19. You already ate the cottage cheese so no use sweating it now. Just try to follow your plan more closely from here on out. Regarding the vitamins... Please listen to the suggestions posted here over and over. Find flintstones complete! Got mine at target. I spent a load on chewable spectravites and more on chewables calcium from bariatric advantage and both made me really sick to my stomach. Gummies are not good for our sleeves...again not my suggestion, but tons of others on here.
