moregoodtimes replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
January 30th - I "think" I'm ready. =] I'm very anxious to find out what's on the other side and so I hope I'm as successful as so many I've read about on this site. Good luck to all! -

Vitamins Supplements Timing

I've actually been on Synthroid/Levothyroxine for several years and 2 different doctors during that time would keep adjusting my dosage up and down according to various blood tests. Until I went to an endocrinologist, who had to remove my thyroid, I'd never heard about calcium and citrus juice/fruit having effects on the meds! Yes.. the thyroid was not performing effectively, but I also never knew to NOT take the meds alone. I am learning very swiftly, after going through this WLS journey to question my doctors more and to do my own research. -
I seem to like all of them I've tried, including MM. I am pre-op so tastes may change. I plan to have some on hand in case lactose intolerance crops up after surgery. Costco does carry MM light in chocolate and vanilla. I picked up a new supply of Premier today and also a huge tub of ON Isolate which has 30 g protein. The only reason I use Premier instead of MM is Premier is higher in protein. I try to use Costco and watch for sales to save on money. I drink my shakes right from the container. I like Pure because of the bottles and MM has a nice screw off top too which makes them easier to drink. The Premier shakes have a tear off that covers a drink hole, which makes it a bit difficult to drink, but I make do. MGT

I'm going to work on it tomorrow when I divvy up all my meds for next week. I'll post it when I have it mapped out. I really have to have a schedule hanging in front of me to keep up with it! -
So VERY many hoops but jumped them all and have my date!

It seemed like every one of my pre-op tests had some sort of follow-up required. The EKG showed an extra blip so I had to go through a nuclear stress test.... but passed. The sleep study was borderline so required a CPAP machine. Dr. requires 3 solid weeks of use prior to surgery or he cancels and he checks the memory card! The chest x-ray showed a spot on my lung. I had to have a CT scan. Turned out to be an old calcification deposit so passed! BUT no... the scan went high enough on my neck that it picked up "something" in my thyroid. Sonogram required. Large nodule found in thyroid. Fine needle aspiration done.. inconclusive.. sent to surgeon... surgeon says thyroid must go so entire thyroid was removed. The only thing I passed with flying colors was the psych eval! Go figure! :\ But alas... EVERY LAST FRIGGING HOOP JUMPED THROUGH! My new life begins on January 30th! I cannot wait! I have read and read, prepped, and made a gazillion lists so that I get this right. I have my head on straight and will follow my plan through to goal. This is a major life change and will impact every area of my life in such a positive way that I will not be doing anything to screw it up! My doctor requires 2 weeks of liquids prior to surgery and 2 weeks of clear liquids post surgery. I think it will be tough, but I've planned several activities to keep me busy. I have my list for what to pack for the hospital, liquids ready, protein ready, and now all I have to do is wait. I am soooooooooo excited. All you January sleevers.... please be sure to post how you're doing. To TEAM JANUARY 2013 !!! MGT -

You can gain weight after VSG.

Someone the other day called it a "temporary tool" rather than just a tool for us to use to regain control of our lives... I like thinking of it as temporary. It helps to remind us that it alone will not be the cure all. It will help us get started, but if we don't make other changes we may not be one of those 3 years plus success stories! -
I've been thinking that perhaps rather than a large event, that something relatively unnoticed may occur that triggers a time period of unrest of some kind or is the precursor to a larger event. Down the road, people will look back and see the connection back to 12.21.12. Who knows... Not really worried about it, just interesting to see how people are preparing.

If you make the decision to leave, make sure your personal items are safe before you give a clue. Important papers, jewelry, keepsakes, bank account, etc are all things to lock down. You may think you know how things will go, but once the other person realizes it is really over, you have no idea how they will react. From experience, I can tell you that it does not always play out theway you have imagined it in your head. All the best.

January 2013 Sleevers?
moregoodtimes replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My initial date is January, and hopefully still will be. Unfortunately ran into some trouble. During pre surgery tests, a problem with my thyroid surfaced. Had to do a biopsy but it came back as failed so have to go through it again with the doc that would do surgery if it turns out to be cancer. So for now, just trying to stay positive and take it a day at a time. I so hope I'm on the surgery table for the sleeve in January with all of you! Well not hoping ur all on the table with me, but you know what I mean! =] -
You should go back and read chad2rad's story. A few months ago he was going through a difficult time, similar to yours....problems with marriage, no others to support him, etc. He had no one to be with him at hospital or to bring him home. He pushed forward for his own well-being and has recently posted to threads in ways that show he made a right choice for himself. He seems excited about the new him and his new way of life. Bottom line...we cannot expect others to put us first. It is our job to take care of us and when we do, we are able to help others. I personally sacrificed myself for others over myself for years and years- children, husband, my job, etc I would not change THAT part of my life, but if i could have a do over, I'd have taken better care of me also. I would encourage you to try to look beyond the immediate situation and really focus on all the years ahead and what you want for yourself in 5-10-20 years out. Don't wait until your nearly 60 like me to finally realize I deserve the best life possible as well. What actions can you take now which will best help you get there- where you'd like to be? Your answers are for you to decide. We can support you with the decision, but you have to be the one to make it. Sincere best wishes. MGT

I use egg whites from the carton. Is there a way to make egg whites fluffier? I use them scrambled or in an omelet. I'm currently on my preop eating plan and trying to go from a massive number of high cal, high carb foods to staying under 900 calories with high Protein, low fat and carbs. Doing OK with the selections, but need a bit more fluff to "feel" like there's more. Doing one step at a time.... change what I eat then start reducing how much I eat.. although the volume is significantly already reduced! Not yet sleeved but trying to reduce bad habits and increase good habits now. Need to keep doing well until hopefully my sleeve in mid January. MGT
