    Eating

I hope my warped love for food never returns! I would be fine open mouth, throw in required nutrient and move on!.... Kind of like a wood burning stove.
  2. Yep.. Took amend 3 hrs prior to surgery... Did not have any nausea!

    Incision scars

Yep inside top area of belly button. Thats the one my stomach came out. Doc said that area is the most pliable. Im 17 days out and all are completely healed. The other 3 were only about 1/2 inch long. My stretch marks are 10x worse than my incisions!

    Eating before surgery

You are not eating well JUST for weight loss. You have been strict and avoided high carb foods to have the best chance at a problem free surgery. You will get to eat all those loved foods again if you want so dont look at it like they are disappearing from your life. And finally, part of the preop diet is to break away from old habits and start thinking like a normal person. Good luck with your decision.

    how much can u eat?

I wrote this down from a post i read several months ago. Maybe it will help. Top 10 mistakes WLS patients make... 1 not taking their Vitamins, minerals and supplements. 2 assuming you have been cured of your obesity...3 drinking with meals.....4 not eating correctly- Protein first, nonstarchy vegs next....5 not drinking enough Water...6 grazing- have 3 meals and 1-2 PLANNED Snacks.....7 not exercising regularly...8 eating the wrong carbs( not complex) or not limiting even if complex....9 drinking soda again...10 drinking alcohol. Just a reminder of the "rules.". Protein first, get the full daily amount of water but not 30 minutes befor or after meals, no snacking, and get daily exercise. I think it is easy to start off with a bang and then slowly stray from the plan without realizing it if you dont journal your intake and exercise every day. If that is the case, maybe the info above will help. Best wishes.

Have a question about previous surgey

During the preop testing for my sleeve a large nodule was found in my thyroid, requiring surgery. I had it done and had my sleeve done one month later. The only comparison would be having major surgeries back to back and being put under twice. I do not feel like there was really any negative impact. I guess only your surgeon could really answer your question. Good luck. My mass turned out to be benign - hope yours does as well. Oh... I am wondering how this will impact hair loss though... I really dont care... My goal was to get my sleeve and let nothing slow or stop it.

    Anyone using a Fitbit?

I love my fitbit one! Syncs to my phone and computer and to myfitnesspal wirelessly. Plus it charges with a little cord rather than a watch battery. It holds the charge for a couple of days and recharges very quickly.

    feeling hope slipping away

Hi docbree. I cannot imagine the extra problems you are dealing with but do know that just getting all the preop appointments and testing done is quite a challenge and not meant for everyone. I started with setting the appointments for each test and then ended up having to do further testing with every stinking one of them except the psych eval. The ekg showed an extra blip so had to schedule a stress test. The chest xray showed a spot... So on an d so forth... Bottom line, i had to have my thyroid removed at the end of december as a result of a ct scan to check the spot on the lung! This process is not easy, but to me, was well worth jumping through every hoop placed in front of me. The one thing that really helped was to print off monthly calendars with big blocks for each day so that i could write down all the appointments, along with stops i needed to make each day, as well as work obligations. I wrote with pencil because so many times, things must be shuffled to make it all work. I lived by those calendars and referred to them several times a day. I do understand that you have additional stressors because of the additional health issues, but setting your mind to do whatever is necessary to reach this surgery goal, i believe, will pay off with not just an improved physical health, but with improved mental and emotional health because you will know you were able to perservere and reach your goal of jumping through every frigging hoop they put in front of you. I do wish you success with whichever route you go. Not proceeding at this point does not mean you failed, it means realizing you are not ready at this moment, which is wise.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I have it at lunch time because i still enjoy the warmth and non-sweetness of it, but yes, if i have it in the evening, it does not set that well.
  15. You are almost to the losers bench! Gratz! Youll snooze/cruize right through today and will be starting your wonderful new life soon! Keep us posted!

    I made it!

So glad to hear things went well for you. Yes the first day is a bit of a roller coaster ride. You are getting used to all the changes. Just navigating in and out of bed and to the rest room is a challenge because you are testing how you feel, which way to move, and all the staff buzzing around! Take it moment by moment, snoze when possible because that is healing time, and revel in the knowledge that you are now on your way to a wonderful new life! Keep us posted!

    Late to the Party

Hey there jrob! Welcome and you are not late at all! You still have lots of time to ask any questions you might have and to just read the different posts which are very inspiring. I was sleeved two weeks ago and attributemuch of my success to the info i learned here during the weeks beforesurgery. I felt confident and prepared for each facet of the process. Again, welcome!

    I cant believe...

Yep...heard that silly dog saying that as i typed it!
  19. I do heavy highlights and went ahead the week after surgery and did it again. It poofs up my hair, which is, with no bleached pieces, straight and flat to my head. I figured that even if half of my strands fall out, at least those that are left will be fluffier and make up for what falls out! This reasoning worked for me! i guess we will see in a few months just how flawed my reasoning is! I am on biotin, zinc and use fall fight triple treatment.. Shampoo, conditioner, and spray scalp and strand treatment.

My kids say slab of butter but as a farm girl, we used it in terms of a slab of BACON! Bacon, bacon...I love bacon! BACON!

    Getting ready physically and mentally

Hey guys...thought i would give you a little input. Just sleeved two weeks ago. First the pillow. I did like having one on the ride home. Dont think i really needed it, but made me feel better in the car on an hour ride home. I just put it in the car i would riding home in.. Not for the hospital. As far as protein drinks, do not buy up a large amount of one kind. I was not picky preop so bought two large containers of a certain powder and used it during the preop phase and into post surgery. I found out that i needed a change up during the day. So having something like a sports drink like isopure or blitz, a powder to mix in milk if you need some xtra carbs, a premixed one like pure, Unjury chicken and one lactose free like muscle milk is good...just a few of each so you can change it up is best because you truly do not know what will work best for you post op. You an easily sink a wad of cash into something that will not be used so go easy. Two to three weeks goes quickly and you will move to food so just get a small variety and get more later if required. As far as meds, i have a good 100 bucks or more worth of unneeded meds! I was given a prescription for prilosec but wanted to have others on hand... Gasx, another antiacid, liquid tylenol, and an assortment of options for constipation and diarrhea. They ALL are sitting unused, unneeded. I way over planned! I have jello and pudding boxes on the shelf and 2 boxes of popsicles in the freezer. I took way too much to the hospital.... Wore the hospital gown while there... Easier to use restroom with no pants to worry with..remember..you will have an iv and a roller pole to take along with you..easier to get in and out of bed, and easier to give the nurses and dr access to your tummy to check incisions and to give your blood thinner shots. I did use my slippers, my tooth brush and my face lotion and hair brush. So long story short... KISS strategy works best... Keep it simple stupid! Just do not overdo it! You will be home then out and about so fast you will not know what hit you! Save your money for new clothes! This is one time when less is best! Good luck!
