  1. Hi there. I have Hair loss. I'm 4 months out. It's not like all your hair falls out. People don't notice. It's often to do with general anaesthetic. How are you getting on?

I'm doing great thanx. I'm now 3 and a half months out and I've lost 4 stone. I'm half way there! I thought I noticed a little hair loss but it seems to have stopped since I got my hair cut. Still early days though so I won't be surprised if it kicks off again soon.

  2. Hi everyone. I'm Jo from Brighton. I was sleeved on the 12th Oct so I'm 10 days post op now and still on liquids. I think the worst of the headhunger is behind me now. I had a few days of craving everything I saw.

Can I ask... for those of you who've been sleeved a while, did you get hair loss? A lot of the Americans are saying they had Hair loss at 3 to 4 months which didn't come back til 8 or 9 months post op. I'm just curious. I can hear Ebay calling me to buy some groovy wigs! I was told that hair loss is a sign of general malnourishment but so many people seem to get it that I'm wondering if it's just one of those things to expect or if it's a dietary difference from country to country.

  3. Yes the people around us are allowed to make their own food choices. Of course they are. No-one is saying otherwise.

I just don't think it's too much to ask of someone who loves you to be a little considerate about eating certain foods around us as we heal. I wouldn't have dreamt of eating chocolate around someone who couldn't have it and I hope people would have the same courtesy for me as I do them. Especially if they are loved ones.

  4. Why do people find it funny to wind you up? A girlfriend of a friend, after being told what I'd done, later on ran into the lounge and waved a box of chocolates at me saying 'ooooh just one!'. I'm up for a laugh but that's just utterly juvenile and actually quite mean!

And family that munch on loads of crappy foods in front of you need telling to be a lot more considerate. My dad did it once but he was tired and peckish and forgot about my op. He was really sorry and made sure to not do it in front of me after that.

  5. Hiya ladies. I'm craving everything I see and I'm only 8 days out. I know I couldn't eat it cos I can hardly eat the stuff I'm supposed to but it's driving me mental. My dad sat and ate a packet of my favourite crisps (potato chips) in front of me 2 days ago (he forgot) and ever since then I've really wanted a packet. I've got another week on liquids. I'm dreading the pureed weeks. I cannot wait to have some mashed potato and fish and I don't even like fish that much!

Maybe the fact that I'm not enjoying any of the Soups I should be eating is exacerbating my desire for stuff I can't actually have. I can't help thinking that if I could find something savoury that I actually enjoyed, it might solve some of the cravings.

  6. Two weeks out, down 18lbs today. Started my soft foods/solids Tuesday. Felt my first sense of restriction today, I had deli turkey and cheese. Boy oh boy what a feeling. My sleeve is working in overdrive today!!

Two weeks seems really early to be starting solids. Are you finding it difficult so soon? I guess each surgeon has their own guidelines for us to follow. Mine says 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft food and then solids after 6 weeks.

They also say if you're finding it difficult, go back a step for a little while longer.

  7. Had my surgery Oct 15 and i must admit it wasa big rollercoaster feeling good and bad. Was not expecting that much pain and nausea.Luckily as the day moved on, I felt much better. Day two I was unable to keep anything down so they kept me another night. Day three was much better and Iwas able to keep everything down, but apparently didn't take in enough liquids so I got to stay a third night. Finally home now so I am hoping I can actually get some rest. I shiver everytime I think of that horrible gastrograffin. Sorry I am jumping all over the place. So far the difficult thing about being home is watching everyone else eat. Looking forward to eating and being 100%

Glad you're starting to feel better. I found it easier to sit with the family whilst they ate rather than hear them from the other room as it also encouraged me to get more of my liquid meal down but as the days go by it's getting harder. Resisting the urge to lick their food. Haha. My dad ate a packet of my favourite crisps/potato chips yesterday and that was my hardest moment so far. I think the mental food stuff is really kicking in now. I'm looking forward to eating again too!

  8. Got sleeved oct 15th doing pretty good.. I notice each day that goes by Its becoming a lot easier to move around.. Besides my tummy being sore I haven't experienced any real pain. I haven't been hungry much only been drinking crystal lights and Jello I'm up to about two Jello and two bottle waters a day.. My surgeon called me this morning (love him) and ask how I was doing and how I was feeling and told me to start taking Protein again tommorow.. Last but not lease passing gas a lot but still no bm.. Is this normal?

I was about 4 or 5 days after surgery before that end of me started working again. Once it does, every 2 or 3 days is normal to start with, apparently.

  9. I just wanted to throw this out there for any Brits on the forum. I was looking for Protein Drinks that aren't shakes because I can't do milk at the moment. A few people on the forum had mentioned Isopure Plus but I couldn't find it anywhere in the UK. However, in Asda I just found Promax, a high Protein Drink. It's like a lemon and lime squash drink but with 23grams of Protein in it. They were pretty pricey at £2.80 each but I found some on Amazon. I've just bought 2 different flavours of 8x330mls for £2.77 each. (That's £2.77 for 8 bottles instead of £2.80 for one!) Total cost with p&p was £7.51.

I hope no-one thinks this is advertising cos that's not my intention. I just want to share what I found. It's a lot harder to find good, affordable and suitable stuff for sleevers here in the UK than it is in America :)

  10. Hi everyone. I had my surgery on Friday. It's been a bumpy ride since as I had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic plus the nurses didn't have a clue about the dietary needs of bariatric patients... but I'm on the mend thankfully. Finding it hard to get enough liquids in. I was told to have 200mls of various liquid meals/drinks 6 times a day but I'm lucky if I can manage 50mls 3 or 4 times a day. I'm getting a little more in each day though so I guess it's early days. What surprised me is that I've found that I can't tolerate milk at the moment which is a pain because the guidelines say to bulk everything up with milk powder.< /p>

Oh well, I'm just glad to be on this side of the op! My new lfe can finally get going :)

  11. I'm just 6 hours away from setting off for the hospital. Tomorrow is D Day. Or Sleeve Day. I'm planning on staying awake tonight as I don't fancy getting up at 4am. I can sleep all weekend! I'm starting to wonder if they'll put mine off because I've been hit by a cold. It's not full on yet but it's trying. I'm doing what I can to nip it in the bud but I think I'm fighting a losing battle. All I can think is sneezing is gonna hurt like hell over the next few days!

  12. Hello, I turned 40 in July. Single mum to one. He's 19 and a charmer but he's slowly sending me grey with his lifestyle choices. Every cloud has a silver lining though. It gives me an excuse to treat myself to hair dye :)

My surgery is on Friday. I don't know what time but I've got to be at the hospital by 7am so that means getting a train at 5am. I don't think I'll do much sleeping tomorrow night! I'm starting to get nervous now as I'll be going on my own. Eek!
