  1. I too had surgery 1/21. I am able to get gas out but still have heartburn. Intermittent pain. Last night was really bad. I have really bad head hunger and want to eat food. I also keep drinking too fast which is causing pain. And to add insult to injury I haven't lost any weight <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

The weight will come off slowly. You will be bloated for the first couple of days. Don't loose hope. It's going to workout for you.

  2. Today is day two post op. I have no regrets. It has been a little painful, but everyone has informed me on my wonderful progress. Just keeping positive thoughts and looking for to that light at the end of the tunnel. The hardest thing for me has been the nausea and gas pains, but they provide meds for that. Wishing any future sleevers a good luck and speedy recovery. :-)

  3. Before I had this surgery I was worried about loose skin and not having any muscle tone after the surgery. Well I am proud to say that I am a year out of surgery and I don’t have any loose skin. I have always lifted weights and wanted continue after I had my surgery. I am going to be honest when I got back in the gym after surgery I was extremely weak' date=' in college I could bench about 475 lbs., when I got back in the gym I could barely bench 145 lbs. I stuck to it and now I am up to 375 lbs., I work out 4 days a week and I swim 3 say a week. I don’t run or walk because of the stress on my knees, I think once I get to my targets eat weight I will start to run. Just recently I have noticed that I have gained 15 lbs. but my waist and my shirt size has reduced by 3 sizes. At first I was frustrated about the weight gain but I was told that I am gaining muscle mass and it is much heavier than fat. I think I am going to add more cardio to my routine so I can get to my target weight then I will continue my weight regimen. I am so glad I decided to have this surgery..it has really changed my life!!![/quote']

You look great!!! Keep it up. My fear is having loose skin after surgery. :-( I have to wait and see what happens..

  4. Oh no I wouldn't want to wait that long but hey your scheduled that should be a little exciting for u I know I was so excited when I got my date. I'm scared to death being my first surgery but excited at the same time. I just can't wait to go in

I completely understand how you feel. This is my first surgery as well. But I plan on enjoying my holidays n not worry about it until the new year.

  5. Welcome Marilyn' date=' I am new to this to I just got my insurance approval last week and having surgery next Tuesday. It's completely normal to be scared as many of us are excited about it and nervous at the same time.[/quote']

Congratulations on your approval. I approved last week but surgery is not until January2013 :-( I wish I could of had it done in December but surgeon is booked.

  6. You look great.. I too started at 238. My survery is not until January 2013 :-( seems so far away. But I look foward to having the surgery. Loose skin was a concern of mine, but if I end up with a little loose skin, I will be ok with that. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you for showing us some pictures. :-)

  7. Hi Marilyn! I also have PCOS. I'm 36 and was sleeved on Aug. 6th of this year. I know what a pain PCOS can be. I haven't had to deal with the hair growth' date=' but definitely all the other issues associated with PCOS. I was scared that this surgery wouldn't even help with the weight. Man was I wrong. Surgery date, my weight was 267, today, 11 weeks post op, my weight is 215! I feel soooo different and I've had to cycles since surgery. They're usually every 3-4 months apart. Follow the rules for this surgery. The first few weeks are the most difficult. Get through those and the light is on the other side! Lol. I was worried that I'd be stuck eating turkey the rest of my life, but I can eat and tolerate ANYTHING, at least anything I've tried so far. I'm still under restriction on what I eat until the 3 month mark on Nov. 1st. But so far, everything works. It just makes me eat smaller portions. I think you're making the right move. I wish I had done this sooner! It has improved EVERY aspect of my life![/quote']

    I apologies.. *rear=great.. :-)

Any suggestions you may have to help get through the first couple of weeks?

Wow.. I am so happy to hear that things are going rear for you. It's even more exciting to know the change that I can look forward to. I have heard and read from several people that they wished they would of done it sooner. I can't not deny that I am scared because I have never had surgery. But I am trying to keep focus and think of my overall goal. I just want to be healthier, feel good about myself and enjoy the rest of my life.. :-)

  9. Hi Marilyn' date='

I like EAS Lean 15 vanilla Cream. It doesn't give me a chalky taste at all. I mix it with SF almond milk or non-fat milk. I picked it up at Walgreens.[/quote']

Oh ok.. I picked up Pure Protein bottles that are chocolate flavored. I love chocolate but I do not like how this tastes. I'm trying to find one or two that I like now so I won't be struggling through my liquid diet when I have to start. :-)

  10. Hi I am also knew here and my surgery is set for 11/19. My story is alot like yours. I am 35 single. I also have facial hair growth which I hate and was thinking about getting lasered so I don't have to shave anymore. If you need someone to talk to I am a good listener even though I am just learning myself. Good luck!

Hi.. Nice to meet you. I'm Marilyn. I highly recommend laser treatments. I started laser treatments in 2008 and love it. I go to Ideal Image an they had a payment plan that they worked for me. I'm a full member now and whenever I want a touch up I just set an appointment. I used to have to be in front of the mirror in the morning and at night. Now I don't have to pluck or shave. If I get a treatment say today, I won't have growth for like 2-3 months. It made my new Hair growth very very thin and not coarse. I can not lie and say it doesn't hurt, because it hurts a little. But I will go threw that pain of I do not have to be plucking everyday. :-) I'm a good listener myself, if you like to chat. Keep me posted. :-)

  11. My surgery is November 12! Apparently' date=' the staff likes me. They squeezed me in to see the surgeon and bumped up my date. I should have been scheduled for late December but I am traveling to Viet Nam in March and I was so worried that I wouldn't be ready. I go all of the support group meetings. I think that helps.[/quote']

Wow.. That's great. I was hoping to have my surgery in December because I was done with all my appointments since end of September, but the nurse says that all appointments are booked. :-( I will call on Monday and see I there is a cancelation list. I didn't want to have to still be in recovery for my Bday which is in February. I haven't been to a group meeting yet. I actually have two coworkers who are in the same process as me an we hope to have surgery near the same time.

  12. Hello Everyone.

I just had my 2nd Appointment yesterday in Hamilton' date=' New Jersey NJ with

    Dr. Yelizaveta Lisa Dobruskin.

My surgery will be in January, 2013.

    www.jerseybariatrics.com

I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully run a diary of happenings during this WLS Journey. I anderstand it will be a life time commitment.

    My stats:

    I am 40+, African American / Black,

4'11 and 225lbs. Mother of two and recently divorced.

I am not sure if stats are used in terms of comparisons of progress but I will try to remember that my progress is mine alone. I will be successful in this journey. I will try to stay positive. I will hopefully have no regrets and very little to no complications.

The Serenity Prayer is a good inserted here:

    Lord grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

    To change the things I can;

and the Wisdom to know the difference.

    --Ah!men--

Woot- Hoot for the January 2013 starters!!!

    [/quote']

Amen!! Welcome and congratulations on making the decision to have the surgery done. I am 5'4 and currently weigh 238. I believe that you will be successful. Keep positive and focus on your ultimate goal. It will be a bumpy journey from what I can read by other's posts. But from what everyone has told me, keep a support group by you to help you get through it. :-)

  13. Yeah' date=' I like them because I pretend I'm just sipping on lemonade or a juice; it really doesn't taste like Protein. And they have about 23 grams of Protein and are low carb/sugar.[/quote']

I tried buying that Pure Protein that's premade in a little bottle. Got a chocolate flavor and it took me forever to try to drink it. It has 23 grams of protein but I wasn't feeling the flavor. :-) I was buy another flavor and try that next time.

  14. welcome to the neighborhood

    Thank you. :-)

  15. Marilyn' date=' WELCOME! This is the place to be if you want support, information or just to vent. Are you on a cancellation list? It happens occasionally. Just ask.

    Again, welcome.[/quote']

Thank you. I am not a cancelation list. I did not think about that. I will definitely call Monday to see if they have one. I was hoping to have surgery on the beginning of December since I was done with my other appointments since end of September. Have you had your surgery?

  16. Hi Marilyn' date=' welcome to the group. I am fairly new here myself but there is tons of information and support. There are a lot of great people here and they don't mind if you vent when your feeling down or praise yourself when you have NSVs....it's great to have so much support when you're going through something like this, especially if you don't really have support from those closest to you. Good luck and enjoy your journey![/quote']

Thank you Traci. I am hoping to get some support especially since I dont have family where I currently live at. Everyone is far away and I know this is going to be a stressful journey.
