My surgeon told us not to per say diet ever again, because they obviously don't work. He said for every 3 bites of protein eat a bite of a vegetable. Then 3 bites of protein and a starch. He said if you do that it will all work out. And basically if you have one bite of a dessert, or "one" cookie, every so often it's no big deal, because it's unrealistic to expect that you will NEVER have dessert, or wine, or chocolate, or whatever, again. The main key is to learn to pay attention to hunger and full signals. And your stomach growling is NOT a sign of hunger! However, none of that applies to me right now because I never get hungry. I'm lucky to eat 3 bites of anything in a day, 3 months out. Nausea is killing me! Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have it but I have to be careful taking it because it can prolong your qtc interval and I have a heart condition. I feel like I'm screwed all the way around on this. But I do take it occasionally. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am a month and 5 days post-op and have only lost 10 lbs. My surgeon said we should lose an average of 20lbs a month. I was losing more weight before the surgery than after! I'm starting to feel like I made a mistake. I'm also having trouble getting in my 64 oz of fluid in a day because I can't drink fast. I was trying to eat based on the diet given by the Dr. but having to wait an hour was making it even harder to get the fluid in and I was becoming dehydrated, I actually still am a little, so I've quit trying to eat at all during the day just to get the fluid in. The Dr said if we didn't eat right now it was ok we could have protein shakes here and there but he really wants me off the shakes by now if possible and to be eating. I'm just so frustrated that the weight loss slowed after surgery! WTH? Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

Well now it's been over 2 months and I'm only down another 13lbs and I hardly can eat anything or get in enough fluids because I'm staying so nauseated! I think I'm nauseous because of dehydration and because I'm having to take more potassium because it's running low and affecting my heart. I don't know how I'm not dropping weight like crazy since I can barely eat and half the time I throw it back up. I'm miserable! I can tell in my clothes. I have a pair of jeans that fit the beginning of last week that last night kept sliding off my backside last night but it concerns me that I'm losing muscle mass because I'm barely getting in any protein. I didn't know there was a 3 week stall. I was so upset about it last week. I've been disappointed after the surgery. I was losing more weight before surgery! Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

I am counting the shakes as part of my liquid. But my last meeting with my Dr he said I should be losing 3-5 lbs a week. That was 2 weeks ago. I've lost 2 lbs since then. Again I was losing more weight on the pre-op diet than I am now, I'm eating less, I could have one lean cuisine dinner at night. The only difference between now and then is getting enough fluid in. I just don't understand. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

Well I didn't get to go home like I'd hoped. I wasn't able to get in enough fluids on my own so they are keeping me one more night to make sure I get in enough fluids and get an idea of how much I need to get in a day. It hasn't been easy because I cramp with very little fluid. Otherwise everything else is going good. Been up walking around on and off all day and sitting up in a chair. Just have to work on those fluids! Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

I had my Sleeve this morning at approximately 9:00am. My surgeon was Dr. Stegemann who is fantastic! Actually the other surgeon in their practice Dr. Gopal assisted so I was in very capable hands. I had to have an arterial line placed for monitoring BP, HR, O2 because I have an AICD (defibrillator & pacemaker) for a rare congenital heart defect called ARVD. And still everything went great. He told my son after surgery all surgeries should go that smoothly 🙂. I had some sharp, burning pain in recovery when I first woke up that was quickly relieved with Dilaudid. Then when they moved me to a room they switched me to morphine which I had a total of 3 times, the last time less than prescribed and that was around 4:00 this afternoon. It is currently 9:48! I also have Norco if necessary but right now my only pain is the left over gas from the procedure. I have no bowel sounds yet so as long as I feel the way I do now I will not be asking for anymore narcotics because they will work against me and I'd rather have a little pain and have bowel sounds and know they're working again. I've been nervous for days ahead of time, (nurses are worriers because we know all about the complications lol) and because of my heart. But that is why I had the surgery, I need to take any added strain off my heart that I can. I had some nausea a few times earlier in the day but it was always brief, maybe a minute or 2 at the most, and I haven't had that in several hours as well, and they did give me Zofran twice but, I'm going to try not to take it again because all nausea meds can potentially cause a serious arrythmia. I've been taking tiny sips with a spoon of water, ice chips, and even smaller bites of jello. I walked the hall, I'm using my spirometer, taking deep breaths and coughing, I want this to be as successful as it can be. I'm sorry it's long-winded, but I wanted to give as much detailed info as possible for those who are getting close to their surgery date. I will check in tomorrow evening to let you know how day 2 went and if I went home or stayed another night. Love & Light to you all. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app

Suture reaction? Infected incisions... Pics
MofromMs replied to Nifty22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think it was necessarily a good idea to put that piercing right back in either. Again, if you sutured that wound back up, it can even scab up and still have infection/abscess underneath. Treating yourself instead of going to the Dr out of embarrassment like you mentioned in a previous post is just not worth the risk. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using BariatricPal mobile app -

Suture reaction? Infected incisions... Pics
MofromMs replied to Nifty22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's exactly what I was going to say. I don't think you should have re-sutured an infected wound. It needs to be packed with sterile wound dressing like iodoform and allowed to heal from the inside out. All you did was essentially contain the infection with another suture. And I'm not dismissing your abilities, but being a vet tech and a nurse or a physician are very different. We're just saying these things to you out of concern for your health. And I'm very concerned. Also was that piercing allowed to stay in place during surgery or did you just put it back in? -
