twoolley got a reaction from MinaT in Constant Grazing...is It A Problem?
Proudgrammy pretty much hit the nail on the head. Grazing throughout the day is not a good way to utilize the sleeve. The sleeve is useful only if you're using it to restrict the amount of food you can take in during your meals and then keeps you satiated longer. If you're "tricking" the sleeve by taking in more food only over a longer period of time then you're still getting high calories you're just eating all the time. Which is what you're noticing... you're eating constantly.
My surgeon has me on a normal 3 meals a day with a snack or 2 if necessary. Snacks are yogurt, cheese stick, beef Jerky, etc. Low cal high Protein things. chocolate doesn't fit in to that category. I can't find any chocolate to eat (even sugar free) that is under 50 calories per piece. Try replacing those chocolates with sugar free mints or hard candies like Werthers.
Like other posters have said, we're working to change the old habits. For me that included putting food in my mouth all day whenever I wanted. Now I eat 3 times a day like normal healthy people do, and I only eat during those times if I am hungry.
I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but our goal is to help each other be successful losers. We've gone to an extreme length to drop the weight so sometimes a little tough love is sobering.

    WLTrainee Hi trainee! Aka NEWBIE
    Welcome to Sleeveland
22 lbs in less that a month - good for you bud
Grazing is a "huge" problem - but you are a a sleever in training, NEWBIE, - but things will come together.
pre-wls - you/I ate during the day, ate this or that constantly - my stomach was big enough, no problem - to eat whenever
your tummy is now 85% smaller than it used to be. if you eat between meals like it sounds like you are doing (grazing) your tummy can't hold that much food.
I/we had this WLS as a desperate measure - wanting to help control our eating - but if you eat between meals, in my case that was kindof like eating all day - that is a "no no" post WLS
if you eat a few bites more than your tummy likes - it might discipline you by getting sick, or hot - just not feeling well
per your NUT - eat 6 small meals a day - if you think you are hungry?? could be head hunger, you don't want to resort to bad old habits
you don't want to do that anymore - your tummy can't handle it, and you shouldn't do it (graze) thats how you gain weight too
eating chocolate 3 times at week at one month out, i don't think so.......I understand its not often, but at this early time you shouldn't have)
after awhile you can eat "alittle" chocolate, just like you can eat anything else - but small portions, and you have to count in your calories total
repeating don't graze ever - even though it might be healthy choices, its too much for your tummy, and its a habit we "used" to do in the "old days" - that "helped" putting us in this "overweight" situation!!!
per your post you are getting very few calories in?? eating periodically during the day is not a good habit
little tough love never hurt anyone, did it???
    still friends
    good luck

Star, I think I'm going to have to see a picture of you naked so I can judge for myself.
In all seriousness, it seems as though you have a good idea of what you want and that you'll be able to handle it. That said, I have just one piece of advice for you: Just remember that a woman can have sex ANY TIME SHE WANTS IT!
If all you want is something casual, you can make it happen TODAY. There is no shortage of ways to meet a man, including dating sites, the local bar... anywhere, really.
I would advise AGAINST hooking up with someone at work. If, for some reason, things go sideways, you don't want to be forced to see that person every day. There are many, many sayings on this subject, such as "never lay your meat where you make your bread." There's a reason for that. Because in the long run, most relationships don't last and someone is bound to not feel good about it.
Good Luck, and keep us posted here. In other words, let us know when you get some!!

Jessielynn- yes, I have experienced the same circstances. I am now almost 3 mos post-op. My husband & i have been together for 13 years now. Right after surgery I was a bit of a b@$#h because he would eat whatever he would want in front of me & I was still adjusting to my sleeve & felt he wasn't being supportive. He would say things like...when you get skinny, you'll leave me & get a boyfriend. We finally had to have a sit down, heart to heart talk. I explained that I didn't have the surgery so I could get skinny & leave him but that I had the surgery so I could live a happier, healthier life to give us more time together. Well, since our talk, he has become more supportive & now that I've lost 41 pounds, he is always complementing me on how great I look & how skinny I'm getting. He's even been on board with the healthier eating.... My suggestion, have a heart to heart talk with him. Ask him to express his concerns & be open with your feelings also. Best of luck to you & I hope everything works itself out

Marriage is a partnership, not a domination. I would never consider forbidding my wife to do anything she wants. We may be married, but she's still an individual and is living her own life.
Good luck to you, and I'm glad you're getting some support with your kids.

I had a urologist who was the one who informed me of my prostate cancer in 2009. He was extremely grave in demeanor as he told me the news of my positive biopsy results. I am one of those odd ducks who believes that God alone is in charge of my check-out day which is more of a graduation to a better life anyway. As a result I did no emotional collapsing. He apparently thought I just didn't understand and continued to hammer about my imminent doom. Neither I nor my loving and equally God-believing wife were ruffled which seemed to frustrate him.
On subsequent visits he put on his gloom face and tried to get me on the train of abject misery which I always refused to board. Even when my treatment was going well he would assure me that cancer would win in the end. All he needed was pom-poms and a big C on his sweater. He emphasized to me that the treatments were virtually useless and that the extra time afforded by them would be minimal. It made me scratch my head trying to figure out why he thought my remaining time would be better used by being sorrowful.
I have already beaten the doomsday clock he set and if my birthday of December 21 of this year is not the end of the world as predicted by the Mayans I will sit in my new strong, healthy body by my Florida pool with my beautiful, slim Roux-N-Y wife and have a toast to my Ohio urologist. May his life turn out as happy as mine.

I buy the Kraft 2%, personally. The discomfort isn't likely the cheese, it's the egg & you being full. Half an egg with cheese is what I was eating 4 weeks out.

At nearly two years out, I have had the same amount of restriction for at least a year now. I haven't seen it change significantly for a long time -- and I had very little swelling at all post-op, so I could eat a lot (relatively speaking) from very early on. I don't doubt I will get a bit more wiggle room over time, but I am going to go out on a limb here and say there is NO WAY I will ever be able to eat in quantity again. At least not at one go. Maybe if I ate every hour or two I could fit in a bunch of calories, but as it is, I eat pretty well and not overly low-cal (relative to the average sleever anyhow, about 1500-2000 cals per day) and maintain just fine -- and don't feel the need to eat more or less than that for the time being. Touch wood!

Why should I feel obligated to tell you?
Why should you feel entitled to ask?
It is my choice, not yours, what I elect to explain about my private life.
I don't have "secrets." I have privacy. And that is my right.
I did have someone ask me yesterday why I was not eating the pre-Thanksgiving Breakfast that was served at work. I said it was not on my nutritional plan. They then asked what I was doing to lose weight. I told them that I eat Protein first and exercise. That is truthful. Should I then launch into a detailed disclosure of everything that I did/do and why? Hell no.

Yeah... no they don't. At least not in my family. The more private I have been in the last few years the more badly they want to know what I am up to.
That said my whole family knows. I don't give a ____ what any of them think, I stopped caring years ago. They have all been supportive but they do know better than to tell me if they have a problem with it.

Knowledge is power. I count and track. I'm nearly 8 months out and while you may not need it at this time, when you get where I am it is a vital step. Get yourself in the habit now, because your body will not always be so restricted, when that day comes when you consume more, you'll be very aware of what you are eating if you track your food.< /p>

    I wouldn't.
You'll be able to have alcohol after the surgery 4-6 weeks out. I'm scheduled for the 26th also. The day before surgery it's one Protein shake in the AM, the a bottle of magnesium citrate and clear fluids for the rest of the day. After midnight, nothing at all to drink or eat, not even Water. So I'll be preparing my stuff this weekend for Monday.
I think that maybe one glass of wine would be ok, but I wouldn't be slammin' em back or anything. Why risk it? Alcohol dehydrates you anyway, and that would be rough going into surgery, IVbag or not.
When Twooley said you need to call your Dr. With questions like that, he was right. He answered your question with a great answer. You got nasty when no one answered you, at first, and then when he told you who you really need to consult, you got nasty with him. He gave the right answer, a caring answer, but its not what you wanted to hear. This is a question for your Doctor, not us.
Opinions don't matter in this situation. If you had a hunch that your Dr. Would say 'no' and then decided to ask us if you could have a 'get out of jail free' card to go drinking, you're making a mistake.
    Just my opinion.

The reason nobody has answered is because we aren't doctors. We have no rights to give medical advice, all we give are opinions.
You should consult your doctor or nutritionist on questions like this.

I know its hard but just think if you eat something you shouldn't and something bad happens you will so regret it. That was always in the back of my mind.

I just saw my surgeon yesterday and he commented on this exact thing. He said my body is different now I am working to retrain my brain. He said the object is not to feel or get full. That is what we did before and the goal of eating is not to feel FULL. The goal is to not be hungry.
I told him I was eating 1 egg for breakfast with a little cheese and I was full. He told me to eat half the egg & wait 5-10 minutes. If i'm not hungry, don't finish it. He kept stressing that feeling full is not the goal of eating.
