my delicious lunch--what are you eating today?
delta_girl replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at work eating out of the break room fridge. I'm having 7 baby carrots, 2 pretzels, and Campbells chicken & Mini-Round Noodles Soup (70 calories). Snack later will be tiny Kosher dill pickles. -
Alcohol is calorically more dense than fats or Proteins. I was curious about the impact of alcohol on ketosis and did several different rounds of self-studies using keytone strips. You may want to do your own self-study and see how it impacts you. Just make sure you have a baseline to go by before you begin testing after consuming alcohol.
-
Keep in mind that drinking will throw you completely out of ketosis. Well..depending on how much you drink. If you drink several drinks, you will be out of ketosis for several days. If you drink every few days, you will be out of ketosis almost all of the time.

STUCK in a RUT between thin & not fat enough

Die, thread ...die. -
I had my 6th month follow up today and had the same discussion with my surgeon. He said the lap band was around 60% and vsg was slightly better at around 70% on average. He also mentioned that those numbers are averages. Some can be 90-100%. I'm at 74% today.

More than 1-2 bites of something with sugar makes me feel VERY sick.

After weight-loss surgery, new gut bacteria keep obesity away
delta_girl posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Here are two articles that are VERY interesting!!!! They basically share the same thing. Our intestinal flora may have had a lot to do with our obesity. When the stomach, or part of it is removed, it alters the bacteria in your gut. http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/27/17488826-after-weight-loss-surgery-new-gut-bacteria-keep-obesity-away?lite http://bodyodd.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/03/26/17472928-a-breath-test-might-show-its-not-your-fault-youre-fat?lite -
After weight-loss surgery, new gut bacteria keep obesity away
delta_girl replied to delta_girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Since we vsg patients have between 70-80% of our stomachs removed, it makes sense that there would be an impact for us. -

3months and the scale isnt budging!
delta_girl replied to cyncitygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled for the entire 5th month. It was irritating, but it eventually broke. I've read a few posts where people who are around a year or more out have had a few extended stalls. Don't worry about it. Just keep doing what you are doing. Your body is probably still trying to figure out what is going on. -
A lot of stores now sell the top and bottom separately, so you can mix them however you like.

Oh my Holy Lord Jesus, dumping DOES happen!
delta_girl replied to lilbearzmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I enjoyed that same experience after creme brulee at 5 weeks. That yanked a knot in my sugar cravings. -
I gain all of the time. Just less than I lose. If you saw a weight loss chart by days, it would zig zag up and down, up and down in a gradual decline over time. Nothing unusual.

Worried about flabby skin..
delta_girl replied to Red_lips_and_confidence's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll toss in another perspective. Our culture has dictated specific ideals of beauty, which can be difficult to escape. What I am finding (and have learned before but didn't acknowledge) is that confidence is sexy..period. Men are much less complicated than we perceive. Own yourself, project confidence, feel good about yourself, and there is no stopping you. -
It's not that bad at all. You will be ok. It is mostly uncomfortable at times, but not that painful.
-
You will be catching that sleep back up very soon. Safe journeys and luck towards your new reality.

Awwww! The resemblance! You must be so proud! A real beauty.

Geez with the competition. I can see it now. My hairbaby is bigger than your hairbaby. My hairbaby has such diversity! My hairbaby has "special" talents. Well..I'm going to make mine a cute spring outfit based on something I saw on Pinterest. Neener....

@ 6 months....feeling like I will never "make it." Even though results keep showing me otherwise.

Ensure, anyone?
delta_girl replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT and surgeon say to stay away from it. The purpose of Ensure is NOT for bariatric patients. -

To each his/her own...but to me that is like saying everyone has to be happy and have no other emotions that they display to others. Everyone should only post positive, uplifting things, nothing sad nor negative. Everyone must censor him/herself to make sure what they type is as watered down, politically correct, unoffensive, bland, and as palatable to the average person as possible. Sorry...well, not really ...but just ain't gonna.
