Slightly controversial drink (wine, spirit, beer) poll
delta_girl replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part of that is about your weight goal. Depending on where you set it. If your goal is higher or lower on the BMI chart, then calories consumed on average will impact the result. -
Slightly controversial drink (wine, spirit, beer) poll

Look in the juice aisle. They know make Diet cranberry and blueberry juice. About 5 calories a serving and almost no carbs. -
Taking all vitamins at once?

I may be wrong, but I think that you are supposed to not take iron and calcium at the same time because they interrupt one another. Anyone know details? -
When can we drink soda
delta_girl replied to amielou26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the few things I have missed is good beer. So after many months I decided to try it. I hadn't had anything carbonated in 8 months. (Not just the calories in beer or the chemicals in diet soda, but for reasons of insulin resistance.) I had several beers during two different weekends. What happened? The carbonation felt trapped in my body. It made me feel bloated and uncomfortable. It felt like it made a huge air bubble in my system that had to slowly work itself through my intestines, which was not comfortable. I also realized that I didn't miss beer as much as I thought and don't really care to have more. -
Facial features change after weight loss?

Me too! In my forehead. That is by far the worst. -
At pretty much exactly 4 months my weight loss suddenly stopped to. After a one month stall I dropped 10 lbs pretty fast.

Facial features change after weight loss?
delta_girl replied to Fallenangel2904's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of your photos are very beautiful! My changes are that I now have lines and wrinkles that weren't visible before due to the extra fat. Not quite so much fun. -
Since this is so frequently mentioned, I thought I would contribute to the general bank of vsg information/resources and initiate some serious research into the topic. But first, I must explain, that nobody's ...NOBODY'S baby is ugly. They are all adorable. So I offer to you my very own hairbaby, which is a product of two dedicated days of collection from evening showers and morning hair prep. (For those of you who are serious about data collection, the subject of this study, hairbaby, does not include shedding from the greater part of the day or evening, which was accumulated via lint roller and/or shed ramdomly in office space and the work restroom). I have also provided comparative scale via a cherry tomato and a Tic Tac. I welcome evidence of other hairbabies, so please show your own adorable photos. If you are feeling especially creative, you may want to include photos of engaging and enriching activities for your hairbaby.

For those of you who are pre-op or newly post op, don't fear a lifetime of never, ever again being able to eat out. Tonight I am heading to a Mexican restaurant. I actually eat out fairly often. I will order something that I want to eat and I will really enjoy whatever I order. However, I will consider healthier alternatives. I won't need to eat a half of a basket of chips before my food even arrives. I lost 75 lbs within the first 5 months and my weight has pretty much found a set point at 145 lbs. I still have 20 more lbs to go to goal, but at 7 months out now, I have a lifetime left to get there. I have not lost any weight in the last 6 weeks an that is ok. There is no emergency rush to get to some point at light speed. It will be a lifetime of balance from now on. It is VERY doable with vsg. You CAN and will find a balance between being more mindful of food options and a normal lifestyle. Food funerals really aren't necessary. You will eat again You will enjoy food again. You may find that you have different preferences and that foods you previously were addicted to are no longer nearly as tempting.

I'm one month post-opand is struggling.
delta_girl replied to Jenny G's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I stayed behind my advised schedule and if I ate something that didn't feel good, I stopped it. 4-8 weeks out, don't eat anything that feels wrong. If you go a little longer on liquids or super soft and mushy foods, that is perfectly fine. Just make sure to get your protein and liquids in. -
I'm in a six week stall right now after 7 months. Its ok to me. I have lost a lot and feel so much better. I have 20-30 lbs to go. It may happen, it may not. Whatever the outcome, I am significantly better off than I was before. Don't measure your progress with that of others. It is about you, not how you compare to everyone else.

6 weeks is very, very early out. You are working through a lifetime of issues with food and weight challenges. Vsg isn't a race or a bandaid. It isn't a cure. Every person's experience and outcome is different. So what if it takes years instead of this? You will never get to eat as you did before, so there isn't a timer and won't ever be a chance for you to return to your old ways. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Feeling awkward when people ask how much weight I lost
delta_girl replied to alisonsim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I remember an old response shared by Ann Landers when it comes to nosey questions. Whenever you are asked one, just reply, "Why do you ask?" It usually throws people off so much that they realize it was an impolite question. -
Ugh. Nachos For Supper. Need advice!
delta_girl replied to tb21872's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my desk drawer I have Ostrim, 70 calorie chicken single serving chicken soup, 0 calorie pickle snacks, packets of tuna, canned chicken, and sometimes even crackers, though I try to limit those since they are a weakness. -
A wig might be fun!

Sugar free popsicles, baby food, broth, pea soup, apple sauce, shakes, skim milk, low cal juice (dilute it), Greek yogurt, kefir, ...geez...don't even remember some of the things. Don't rush anything.

Feeling awkward when people ask how much weight I lost

None of their business, period. You have no obligation to tell them. They are not entitled to know anything that you do not want to share. DO NOT feel pressured or bullied into saying anything you don't want to. As I have said here SO many times before, it is not deception, it is privacy, which is your right. I even had someone ask me about two weeks ago if I was sick with some deadly disease. I wasn't wearing makeup that day, so I must have been looking especially rough. I only tell those that I want to tell and when I want to tell them. My life and choices belong to me and nobody else. -
Try broiling it with mustard. It is better than it sounds!

Go with sashimi and edamame and miso soup. A lot of sushi rolls have mayo in them, and sugar added to the rice mixture. If you do eat a sushi roll or nigiri, try to pass off half of the rice to a side plate.

Ugh. Nachos For Supper. Need advice!

I just had the same situation tonight. I had some Doritos, dip, salad, chicken enchiladas, and angel food cake with fresh strawberries. No other options in this situation. None of it went down well and I was miserable for about an hour, even though I ate little of it. I have recommitted to logging in myfitnesspal.com again, so I'll do that tonight. I'm finding that, even with these indulgences, I'm still under 1,200 calories for any day. I should be losing, but I'm maintaining. -
-75 lbs in 7 months. I started shedding at around 4 months...heavily. Luckily I had extremely thick hair. Or not luckily because my hair is everywhere all of the time. It has finally slowed and I have some new growth starting in that is wispy. It is just part of the process for many of us and fortunately, only temporary.

I will not go to a buffet at all. I don't miss them. However, I do eat out a lot.
-
I need to do a total detox, too. I've let a few things creep back into my diet and I am snacking way too much. I have been stuck at the same weight for around two months now (at 7 months out -75 lbs). Actually, I am up 3 lbs. I have about 20-30 lbs to goal, which I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to maintain if I get there. There are certainly challenges that I had not anticipated, but they aren't unique. I "know" what to do but feel frozen for the moment. Extreme stress going on in other areas of life is getting all of my attention and I'm not focusing on taking care of me. Nothing easy about this project.

Almost 4 months and stall... Advice.
delta_girl replied to Pinkputter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a 4-6 ish week stall at 4 months. It wasn't the end of the world. This is for a lifetime now, not a race. It would be crazy for your body to continue extreme weight loss consistently over a long period of time. The body wants to protect itself from death. It will certainly slow down the further you get out. I have had to reconcile this as well.
