I may get fussed at for this, but if it isn't a designated meal or snack, why chew mindlessly on anything?

Should You Eat High-Protein Products?
delta_girl replied to delta_girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
Solid food protein post-op after 3 months. Not prior. We do need to take protein supplements (shakes) while we are still healing. -
Should You Eat High-Protein Products?
delta_girl replied to delta_girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
He believes that the body needs real food, not supplements. He does have me taking B12, a Multivitamin, Iron and Calcium. Excessive amounts of protein are neither necessary nor healthy for the body. Perhaps if you were an elite athlete, but not for someone who isn't. -
Should You Eat High-Protein Products?
delta_girl replied to delta_girl's topic in Food and Nutrition
What I found very interesting about this article is the number of grams of Protein recommended. My surgeon told me that he did NOT want me eating more than 45-50g of protein a day. I see members here regularly eating 60g, 80g, and over 100g of protein daily. I told him that I had 60g of protein one day and he was not very supportive of that at all and told me not to do that. He said at my height (5'3") to be healthy that 45-50 was quite enough. He also said he did not want me consuming any more protein supplements (shakes) after Jan 1, which was around 14 weeks after surgery). This article says the same thing. I do not believe everything I read by a long margin (I'm working on my doctorate and research a lot). But I did find it interesting. -
I just ran across this article that references some recent studies. http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/study-diet-soda-increases-risk-diabetes-why-still-192600358.html Yet another study confirms what people have been saying for ages: Stop drinking diet soda. Like, right now. Drinking just one 12-ounce can of an artificially sweetened fizzy drink per week can increase your risk of Type 2 diabetes by 33 percent, French researchers found. And given that most people don't stop at a single weekly serving, your real risk for diabetes could actually be much higher. Diet Soda May Increase Risk of Depression The study, which was announced Thursday and will be published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, was conducted by France's National Institute of Health and Medical Research and covered 66,118 middle-aged women whose dietary habits and health were tracked from 1993 to 2007. Diet Soda May Be Making You Fat The results were unexpected. Though it's well-known that people who consume a lot of sugar are more likely to develop diabetes, the researchers found that participants who drank "light" or "diet" soft drinks had a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who drank regular, sugar-filled sodas. Those who drank 100 percent natural squeezed fruit juices instead had no additional risk. Read more about the study.

How big is our stomach now?

My surgeon said 75% so not sure. -
so mad I don't want to eat anymore!

This is an interesting question. I did. I also have had and still at 4.5 months have some food sticking issues. But I've never thrown up. I did do more liquids for quite a bit longer than required and drank shakes longer out than many do. It eventually resolved for the most part, but I still occasionally have issues where air gets trapped or something sticks and I can't eat much of anything. -
There are SO many "clean" food choices at Red Lobster. Pure Protein and no fat. Read the nutritional info and pre-select what you will order.

Crab Linguini Alfredo Half Order 700 calories, 38g fat, 36g Protein, 1450g sodium, 52g carbs Full Order 1350 calories, 74g fat, 68g protein, 2800g sodium, 103g carbs The half order has the same or more fat than a whole chocolate milkshake or a Whopper. The regular order has more fat than a Big Mac with frieds and milkshake together. Only a few grams of fat less than an entire stick of butter.

Almost every restaurant has nutritional information available for public view on the web. They have some excellent options. Before going out to eat in a restaurant, I check it out first to determine what my choices that I will allow myself so that there is no guess work. http://www.redlobster.com/health/nutrition/nutrition_facts.pdf Somewhere on this site I posted in a thread an outline of many of these that were excellent low fat, low carb choices.

I haven't lost in 4 weeks. It's not a race. It's a new lifestyle. I know it's frustrating. I would think that 4 weeks of consuming 500-700 a day would result at something for me, but nope. It will happen eventually. Just keep on track and exercise. -
I made these last night. The grating is messy. I used parchment paper sprayed with Pam and it still stuck very badly. It looked like a hot mess. But it tasted AMAZING

How likely is it to gain weight after?
delta_girl replied to Harpo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon thinks that there are more problems with surgery forums than help, especially when 90% of the "information" exchanged is not accurate. Smart guy because the more I read here the more I understand he's right. -
Today i found out that i streched my pouch
delta_girl replied to LadiWobs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just checked my surgeon/hospital. They are a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE by the Surgical Review Corporation and the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). I may not have spent enough time reading around the site, but this organization does not appear to be a club you join for a title that you then pay membership dues to hang on to. This would be an interesting thread on its own. -
First Real Stall at 5 Months
delta_girl replied to DEZ1975's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm at about 4 months and have been stalled for 4 weeks. Its really getting old. It doesn't seem like it matters what I do. Eat more, eat less, don't eat at all, drink more Water, etc.. I even did two days of eating very high calories to shock my system. No help there. I added in 3,000 mg of D3 daily to see if that had an impact, but that's not producing results. I've lost around 61 lbs with 48 to go and its beginning to feel like I'm in maintenance and this is the best result I can expect. I am not super strict with what I eat, but I do pay attention to calories and I'm at around 800 a day. I was doing 500-600 a day before when I was losing. Going to read Butterbean's collection again to see if that makes me feel any better. -

I didn't know that there was a higher level of "Bariatric Center of Excellence." I wonder what other standards have to be met to be "top tier." -
Reality check..... Knee high boots
delta_girl replied to chitowngirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Designer Shoe Warehouse to try to find a pair that would fit after trying on 15+ pairs at Dillard's a month before Christmas and none would zip up. I found ONE pair at Designer Shoe Warehouse that would just barely zip up and were really tight. That was a week before Christmas. I got them. I have worn them 2x before today so they have not been worn enough to be broken in or stretched. So about a month and a half has gone by since I got them. In that time I've lost about 12-15 lbs. the area around the calf is now roomy and loose. I'm 5'3" and ave lost about 63 lbs with 44 to go. I guess you need to think if you would be wearing them in two months? -
I have lint rollers in my car, in my office and at home. My vsg was 9/26. I get a b12 shot monthly but don't take biotin. My hair is super thick so more of an aggravation than anything. I'm shedding like a bear. A very glamorous girl bear, but still....eww

Sounds like they have been talking behind your back. They were wrong and insensitive, but I am guessing they care about you and are worried. Why else show a video and then others pull you aside?. They are very misguided, regardless.

Always hungry!
delta_girl replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not to discredit minimeway....antacids can be helpful, but PPIs work on a different mechanism. You may need to experiment with different ones. Some take several days before you feel the effects. -

delta_girl replied to nck12nicholspd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need a PPI if you aren't already taking one. And they aren't all the same and aren't the same for each person. The one they prescribed for me, Protonix, did not do much for me. Prevacid works great for me, but after around 3 months it is no longer effective and I have to switch out with another PPI. -
Does everyone vomit post-op?
delta_girl replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting close to 4 months out and I never threw up after surgery. The only time I came close was the day of surgery when I was recovering in my room and I got a shot for nausea VERY fast because I was being a diva. The next time was 5 weeks out when I ate 1/2 of a creme brulee and slimed so bad (the only time I have) that I thought I was going to lose it. -
I got my bp2 from Whole Foods, if you have one nearby.
