  1. Hello, I am thinking of getting banded with DR Dillemans in Bruges with European Obesity Care. I can hardly justify the cost of surgery here in the UK as it is double the cost of Belgium including travel and hotel. I can buy a package after care for 8 weeks in Birmingham or just choose to get fills as I need them. Has anyone else done this and if so can you let me know what your experience has been? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Lucy

    Nervous

had my fill done in Telford or its actually closer to Wellington at the princess royal hospital with mr diggory. It was his second attempt first time at his clinic he could not find it so went back a few days later to have it done under fluro. He charges 150 first appt then 100 thereafter. to have it done with fluro hospital charges an extra 75. That is still loads cheaper than having surgery here even if you will need 10 fills which is doubtful. No I didnt get the package deal, I am not much of a group person and don't think they can tell me anything different that I haven't already read on several support sites. Obesity Help is a good one if you haven't tried it yet, loads of info there for all kinds of WLS

    Fills

Hi Mike, so far so good still on thick liquids and soon to go on mushy. I have not lost much but hopefully it will come. If your interested we stayed at the hotel acacia which is right in the middle of bruges, worth the extra money. someone else from scotland stayed in the other hotel and spent the difference in cost getting to town and back with taxis. It was nice being able to walk out the door and be right there, especially after surgery just to have little walks around. you will be in very good hands with dr dillemans. good luck and let me know how you get on. also if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask about travel, hotel, etc lucy

    Anyone used Healthier Weight Centres?

hi, I am an american living in england myself and i am just back 2 weeks ago from having a lap band with dr dillemans in bruges. everything went great, i feel great no problems. I am still on thick liquids soon to go onto mushy food. I did lots of research and just could not justify the cost in the UK no matter what they included in pre and after care. Even if I were to get 10 fills in the first year that is another £1000 which is still more than £3000 less than the cost here in England, including travel and accomodation and food and entertainment while in bruges which by the way is a lovely city. One big plus of having surgery in Belgium MRSA is practically non existant. Lucy

    Fills

Hi Mike, I just had band fitted 2 weeks ago in Bruges with Dr Dillemans. Everything has been going great no problems and I have no complaints of procedure and treatment in Belgium. In fact I would recommend it. I live in the Midlands myself (Leamington Spa) and have just enquired with a Mr Diggory in Telford who does fills for anyone. Charges £100. I am going to try him and see how it goes. I sure don't understand why the cost is so high in this country, Dr. Dillemans said if we wanted to go back to Bruges for fills that he charges 50 euros. That is a huge difference. Bruges is a lovely city and if we ever go back on holiday I will try and coincide it with a fill. Who are you thinking of using for surgery? where do you live? Lucy

    Weekly progress reports!

Well I have just completed 2 of my 3 weeks of pre surgery diet. First 2 have gone pretty good as I have been having mostly protein shakes along with other protein basically no carbs. It hasnt been easy but I have to say that I have been 95percent good. This last week I am going to do liquid protein shakes only, wish me luck as I know I will need it. I know if I drink enough of the shakes it keeps me physically full it is just the head hunger which is the killer. I leave for Belgium on th 16th for surgery on the 18th. I am excited but also very nervous. I am 53 years old and very overweight so the worry of surgery for me is at times overwhelming but...I know it is for the best. No matter what happens I can't carry on living at this weight. I have lost 2 stone the past 3 weeks and I just need to carry on with it.

hi, I am getting banded in Belgium on the 18th of July by dr dillemans. I have done a lot of research and just could not justify the cost of having it done in the UK. Cost of surgery for me in Belgium is £3413 less than half of what it would cost here. Dr Dillemans is very experienced and has done thousands of these surgerys. He has been doing it for 12 years. If your interested check European Obesity Care site. If you want I will let you know how everything went when I get back. Lucy

    1st appointment went bad :(

Hi, I would like to say that I have done a lot of reserch and I am now scheduled for surgery in belgium with Dr Dillemans with ObesityCare, July 18. The cost including hotel stay and transport there and back is about £4000. I could not justify the cost in the UK and stories of MRSA. MRSA is practically non-existant in Belgium hospitals. I have talked to several people that have had their band done in Belgium and all are happy with results. Once you decide you want it you book it when it is convenient for you. They do not put you through the wringer prior. I would check into it if I were you.

    UK Fills

Hello, I am thinking of having surgery abroad also, can you tell me where and how much it will be for you. I am not sure but I have heard you can have fills in Birmingham for 75. It seems that you can probably get fills in most big cities. Thanks, Lucy
