Is The Lap Band Just Sticking Your Toe In The Water?
EmpressLizBunny replied to 120darby's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
To be honest I wanted gastric bypass since I was 15 but my mom and my original surgon convinced me that the lapband was better for me as I was so young (22) I did really well the first year losing 100 lbs in 9 months but around my one year anniversary I started having complications I put up with them for another 2 years and gained all my weight back now I'm revising to rny -

So I have my bariactic class tomarrow my EKG on wensday and my pre op with my doc on Thursday and my pre op blood work on 10/8 it feels like there is just so much to do! -
INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 medium carrot, large dice 1 medium leek, halved lengthwise, rinsed, and sliced crosswise into 1-inch pieces (white and pale green parts only) 1 medium yellow onion, large dice 6 medium garlic cloves 2 pounds medium white button mushrooms, stems trimmed and quartered 8 Italian parsley sprigs 6 thyme sprigs 1 bay leaf 2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns 3 quarts (12 cups) Water 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt INSTRUCTIONS Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the carrot, leek, and onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions and leeks have softened, about 8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the mushrooms, parsley, thyme, bay leaf, and peppercorns and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms start to release some moisture, about 4 minutes. Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the vegetables are completely soft and the stock has a pronounced mushroom flavor, about 1 hour(I like my favors strong so I cooked it for 3 hours). Remove from the heat and strain through a fine-mesh strainer set over a large heatproof container or saucepan; discard the contents of the strainer. Stir in the salt. If not using immediately, let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month. Haven't added the salt yet but it tastes good so far. right now it's chilling in the fridge. In my case it made 7 cups however if you only cook it for the hour recommended I suspect you would have at least 10 cups

Hospital Stay And Anxiety Issues
EmpressLizBunny posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there I'm having surgery oct 1st my doc said I would have to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days. I have never stayed overnight in a hospital before except in the pediatric psych ward when I was 10 and again at 13. I have high functioning autism and anxiety should I/how do I communicate this to the staff at the hospital? My surgon never rembers and his PA doesn't believe me. my mom feels that the nurses don't need to know and I feel they should. I'm afraid I'll have a meltdown (me crying and being only minimally communicative) and freak them out. I'm 25 and I don't look or sound like I have autism. I can pass for normal because I'm highly verbal and can make eye contact. but when I become stressed my eye contact diminishes and I ramble I also sometimes speak really fast. Sorry if this is in the wrong place or doesn't make sense. Liz -

I can't stand the box or canned chicken broth straight so I plan on making my own broth I'm glad I live near a large Asian community I was able to find chicken feet at one of the little Asian groceries now I can make chicken broth with lots of calogin(I don't know if that's spelled right) in it so it's nice and thick I hope this will help me get through the liquid diet -

Hospital Stay And Anxiety Issues
EmpressLizBunny replied to EmpressLizBunny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only support person I have is my mom she hates hospitals and doctors because she is chronically ill she doesn't believe telling the nurses will make any diference I have no clue if there is a separate bariactric ward or just a regular part of the hospital frankly the inefficiency of my surgeons office does not inspire confidence in the patient relations in the rest of the hospital Don't get me wrong the surgon is skilled in the slicing and dicing dept but bad with patients and the 3 other major players(the physician assistant, the insurance/hospital cordanator, and the patient liaison) have little turf wars that severely impact the running of the office and patient service -

I had an abdominal ultrasound (I was having stomach pain the doc just wanted to make sure it was just gas and it was) and it reminded me of how differently I process touch the whole thing was extremely painful because of the pressure. I like gerenalized pressure like when you get a dental X-ray and they put the led apron on your chest that feels calming and comforting but targeted pressure like in a massage or this ultrasound I find extremely painful I would rather wipe out on my bicycle and get all scraped up (yes I am 25 but I don't drive) than have a massage -

You might also add some unflavored protein powder after the broth/gelitan mix cools below 130 degrees -

For those of u who are on a liquid diet you can make aspic it's a savory version of jello use unflavored gelitan in broth (I'm gonna try making some mushroom broth) it gives you a break from the super sweet protein shakes -
You can also get egg protein then there are lower quality options like rice and pea protein go to yor local gnc or vitamin shoppe and look around good luck
