Wow - well I am glad they did - they found stuff on the tests they wouldn’t have otherwise - you were the insurance expert - surprised you didn’t make a request for it - I NOW KNOW how critical it is and how important to my survival/health and outcome... Do some research on sleep on how the body fights loosing weight and enlighten yourself.

Why Do Some People Find It Necessary To Vilify This Surgery Or That Surgery?
shastadaisy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m just going to say it. I’m outspoken myself and through this journey (I’m 4 months of my required 6 month pre-surgical appointments) Why do some people find it necessary to vilify this surgery or that surgery? We are a community of like people. We, saying this as a fat person, are constantly vilified by others - if your not - believe me - someone at the grocery store just shook their head - someone at the gas station chuckled under his breath - someone....well you get it. So how come here - this place which I think is GLUE - are people so high and mighty that they can say what surgery is good or bad for others? Be open to the POSSIBILITY that lies here - be open to this place that is open and sharing and non-judgemental. Be open to GLUE. I feel better saying this. It may never be read by anyone else - I found this place in my journey - I am going to soul search and figure out whats best for me and honor the medical professionals expertise. I have many degrees - one of them is NOT medical. jumped off my soapbox. -

Feel like I’ve had enough judging in a lifetime of fat I support whatever decision anyone makes - and I expect that same consideration. In fake online life - and real life -

Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused

How do you decide? I feel like they are STRONGLY encouraging me to to go rny because of my Diabetes (t2). Thoughts? -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
shastadaisy replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon does rny/vsg/band I think the argument is going to be rny because of a) amount to loose and 2) t2dm - and now I’m doing my research - the long term studies can’t be very long term as the vsg has only been 4-5 years approved therefor result studies about the remission of t2dm aren’t as readily available - whereas rny has a much longer history and therefor they can prove that result - I’m conflicted -

I hate saying this - but maybe it’s a man or woman thing - I don’t see many men offended about their age or weight - we as women are conditioned -- just look at tv. -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
shastadaisy replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanna have as much AMMUNITION - because if I do the sleeve - and everything works - and let’s say I do have diabetes (not chubby related) I’ll be ok - If I have the RNY and still find myself diabetic (which I believe we will always be diabetic) I have to then go straight to injections - which, for me, is so difficult - I do it because I have to - but I am just hoping against insulin - not even sure what cycle that will/can create Thank you for answering me and helping with this dialog everyone - I’m still confused - but it will end up being the decision we all make together (me and the hubby) -

I’m pre-surgery and already thinking of a nice way to say thank you and I appreciate your support - I KNOW folks are going to ask me and I KNOW it’s going to take everything in my power to NOT ask them an equally personal question - such as - “So when was your last bowel movement - describe for me the shape, color, consistency - smell?" see i’m a smart ass and it’s really going to take allot to NOT ask that question to them when they ask me HOW MUCH. xoxo sit next to me - i say what y’all are thinking and i say it out loud -

FWIW - I’ve had “dumping” for 12 yrs - and you learn what you can or cannot have - the meds for diabetes have a syndrome which from all accounts is identical - it’s NOT pretty - it’s inconsistent - and in my PRE-surgery case - doesn’t do a thing for weight loss - if it did - I’d be THINNNNNNNN. Thank you all for talking here - it’s therapeutic and like talking to friends - it’s thinking through the pros and cons and helps me - I thought about the sleeve and how if it wasn’t the results I wished I could do the DS or the full bypass - I think that’s where the Nut and RN were coming from yesterday when they said you don’t wanna do that - and when I think about the LONG list of stuff I need to do - sleep test - pulmonary (2 visits possibly 3) - endoscope - endocrinologist and blood workup - psych eval - Nut (2) and all of this is after my 6 month mandatory PCP visits with monthly NUT visits - I can totally see how they are leaning toward the do it once right and you won’t have to be a surgical candidate twice - I’m going to have WLS - that’s not a debate - it used to be - but I’m invested now - and it’s a matter of figuring out which surgery - and what is going to be best for me - for my family - for my future - keeping in mind that #1 on my list is to be an active person and #2 is mitigating diabetes and it’s hold on my life expectancy - all of this is daunting ... and having someplace to talk to - so instantaneously - it’s like magic - my husband might crawl through his skin if i debate this stuff with him - he supports me - and is my rock (26 yrs of being my rock) and he just is afraid of the potentials - who isn’t - and afraid of regain - I TOTALLY GET IT - I am too... with that - thank you - and you’ve ALL given me something to chew on i had to go there - that was funny - hahaha - bairatric humor - haha -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
shastadaisy replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and I’m on victosa (which DOES NOT CONTROL APPETITE for me) and metphormin - nothing special - and my A1c of 6.5 wasn’t due to diet OR exercise - which was the whole reason I was prompted to get surgery - I don’t know “how long” I can be on these meds and be ok - 10 yrs (ok I did 12 already) 20, 30, 40 - I’m 44 now - and technically my life expectancy is another 40 - but not at this weight - If I do sleeve - my insurance will cover additional WLS’s which is/was something I looked into - wanted to make sure it wasn’t a ONCE in a lifetime thing - as a just what if question - my insurance also covers medically necessary plastics -- How did you decide on sleeve? I was so sure before. -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused

This is what they said yesterday - I can keep taking diabetic meds forever - or I can take supplements - I have allot to loose and have been this heavy for a long time - I just don’t know how to decide. Thank you all for commenting here... -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
shastadaisy replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was completely convinced sleeve was the way to go - and yesterday at a simple “intro” meeting my head is all turned upside down. I have been Type 2 for 12 yrs - in decent control (a1c of 6.5) and haven’t really done anything “special” to make sure I was in decent control - I wake up with readings like 165ish - I am a dawn riser - which means my liver pulses out overnight - being diabetic for 12 yrs I might also have done irreparable damage to my pancreas - I really don’t know. My #1 reason for WLS is activity - at 200lbs OVERWEIGHT (according to the hideous charts) -- I don’t EVER recall being 140 -- and my #2 reason is the diabetes. I will be seeing the surgeon in about 10 weeks and I am a researcher - when I found this place I thought ok - like minded people - I’m settled on the sleeve - now I’m not sure - In the end it will be a decision me and my family make - just wondering about any other diabetics and their input... thanks for listening...
