  1. I think no matter what you do, there will be either a bit of judgment or jealousy or both. It's just human nature, unfortunately.
  2. I work for a big company having do with the medical field. There is a very healthy culture around here. I am laying the trail for gallbladder issues/surgery here so that when I tell them I am having surgery there will be no great surprise. There is a woman here in another department who had the band (which wound up slipping and she was very ill) and then the bypass. The tongues were sure wagging when she was out of work (I would never have that kind of surgery, look what can happen, etc.). So, I am opting to pass it off as another surgery and then if questions come later after when the weight comes off (God willing) I can choose to tell who I want. I did confide in the girl who had the WLS and she has been a great resource and friend.

What Was 'the Moment' For You?

The moment that I decided was when I was spending a week at the beach with my kids this summer and saw myself head-on in a mirror sitting on a chair in a cover-up. I was shocked to see I resembled Jabba the Hut - just kind of all spread out on the bottom with belly and rolls galore. I wondered how on earth did I let myself get like this. That was the "click" for me. One month later, after researching like a madman, I went to a seminar at my surgeon's office. The rest is history! There IS light at the end of the tunnel!!

    7Month Picture

    AWESOME! Thanks for the inspiration.
  6. Oh and to actually answer your question - sorry - it was a full knockout. Out completely. The anesthesia made me feel a bit out of it for a couple hours. Took a nice nap afterward when I got home (a rare thing with two active kids).
  7. The procedure itself doesn't take more than 10-15 minutes I believe. The prep/recovery took a bit longer - I was there from about 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. I met with the gastro last night and he took a history and explained the procedure. Today I went to the surgery center and filled out paperwork, put on a lovely gown, cap and booties, gave a urine sample, got an IV inserted/had BP and sugar checked, waited in holding, talked to nurse, anesthesiologist and doctor who confirmed medical history, had procedure, and went to recovery. After endoscopy, met with the doctor who gave me a report with lost of pics and said everything was normal. Met with nurse who gave aftercare instructions (no driving for 24 hours, eat normal diet, etc.) and had some Water. Got dressed and went home (had car service to and from the procedure). It went smoothly and everything was explained to me in detail and I was fully prepared by the staff. They were pleasant and the facility was excellent. So all in all, a good experience. I am sure you will be fine!
  8. I think it is pretty much standard - my gastro said they just want to make sure there aren't any surprises/issues before they do the surgery. I even came home with two pages of pictures. Pretty cool.

My gastro said the same thing.

    Nausea 2 Months Out?

I don't really have advice but just wanted to say hope you feel better soon!
  11. Having thighs that don't catch on fire from rubbing. Fitting into hot, high heels without looking like Miss Piggy. Wearing a choker without choking. Actually not fitting into clothes because they get too big instead of too small. Walking into Ann Taylor, Banana, etc. and not just buying jewelry. Being cold instead of hot all the time (may be just "lady troubles" lol) Not being so invisible when hanging out with a skinny friend. Getting "that" look again from my husband...
  12. Just really excited to be moving the process along and had to tell somebody! Hope today's visits go smoothly. On my way (and tearing up slightly, jeez, what a baby!)!!
  13. It couldn't have gone better. I am even more confident now that I am making the right decision. I learned a good deal from the nutritionist. Now onto gastro and endoscopy this week.

    November 19Th....

I'm still in pre-approval stage. Had PCP visit and she will write letter of recommendation to go out this week. Had nut and psych today which went really well. Gastro and endoscopy this coming week. Then it's crossing fingers for approval!!
  15. Thanks! I am a Jersey Girl too (Passaic Co).

    Pre-Op Nsv! Yah Buddy!

WOOT! That is awesome! What a feeling I bet. I can't wait for that experience. I have been buying smaller sizes at consignment shops, tag sales, etc. (not going for broke at this point just in case there is a snag...). I can't wait to buy stylish clothes again.

    Shoe Size?

This is good to know. I recently bought sandals and boots a 1/2 size smaller (they were on sale) in anticipation for a bit of shrinkage after the surgery. I too will be glad they won't look like Miss Piggy feet!!
  19. I have my PCP appt coming up and she is not exactly warm & fuzzy. I am a bit afraid she will not support my VSG, and I need a letter of recommendation from her. She is relatively thin and is somewhat condescending in her attitude about my being overweight, weight loss efforts, etc. What if she doesn't recommend the surgery?
  20. I had my appointment and all in all, things went better than I expected. My PCP talked with me about the surgery asking me a bunch of questions. I thought she wasn't warm to the idea at first, but after a bit said she would recommend it for me. She has a few patients in various stages around VSG, one very successful after being sleeved a few years ago, and one going through the pre-surg requirements. We even went over the language of the letter suggested by my bariatric surgeon, and she beefed it up a bit. Pleasantly surprised and super-relieved. I have nut and psych on Sat., endoscopy on Tues. We're getting closerrrr!! Thanks everyone for your support!!
  21. Thanks everyone for the encouraging words! I am sooo thankful for this board - it's great to know I can come here to discuss topics like this. I will report back after my appointment.
  22. Everyone looks so amazing. What an inspiration. I have a tentative date for the end of November and I am so excited.
