Three Months Out & Now the Real Work is Beginning
Boofster replied to PJ_Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have a gym right at work, so I go after work when I can (and it's free, so how could I not). Maybe you can go before work, or right after work but before you go home. Even 20-30 minutes a day is great. How about a walk at lunch - is that doable? When I work crazy hours or have stuff to do after work, I sometimes do a workout DVD in the morning. I know it's probably a bit passe, but I love Billy Blanks and his Tae Bo tapes. They're easy to do, still kick ass, and you will sweat like a pig. He's very inspirational. They're only about 25 minutes, give or take, and then you can hop in the shower and have a day with more energy than you imagine. I am way too spastic to do Zumba...maybe someday when my thighs won't rub together and burn the place down. -
Hey Sel! First, congrats on the awesome weight loss. I am sure you look fab! I'm down 19, but have 10 to go to "onederland". Can't wait to be where you are! Anyway, I had the opposite problem - I got mine only 18 days after it came the first time that month. I've heard that the hormones are totally wacky after getting sleeved, so I am sure that has something to do with it. Maybe someone else can chime in on the lateness thing, but I am sure it's the hormones.

Anyone Out There Cold After Getting Sleeved?
Boofster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was sleeved on Monday. Ever since I find myself being kinda cold all the time. Is this normal? I'm usually sweating. Lol -
CoCo, that is us to a "T"!!! The fan blows on me and freezes me out...I wear a fleece jacket to bed. LOL!!

I started with a seminar at my doctor's office (free). Learned a bunch and then approached my PCP. I thought she would be difficult to convince (she's old school) but she went with it and wrote me a letter of recommendation. Do your research online, talk to people that you may know that have had WLS, ask lots of questions of the doctor and staff. If you're going the insurance route, there may be several requirements before surgery (stuff like doctor supervised weight plans, tests, etc. - you can Google it). Good luck! I was sleeved on Nov. 19 and have never been happier.

Post Surgery - Tom Came Waaay Early!
Boofster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can't believe it...my monthly friend has arrived only 18 days after my last one. I was sleeved on 11/19. Guess those hormones are all out of wack - hopefully this means that the fat burning has begun (though I heard that somewhere). Sorry if TMI, just had to vent to my sleeve sisters! (Sorry guys) -

Are you taking Prilosec or similar meds? These usually help with that... -
November 19Th- Officially

I went to the doc this morning. I lost 10 lbs since surgery (thought it would be more but ok) and he said I could go up to mushies. I still had soup for lunch because I was nervous about doing it. For dinner, I had some very mushed up cheese ravioli with sauce. I ate about one to one and a half ravioli (without the hard edges) before I was full. Tolerated it well. Might try an egg tomorrow morning. Nervous about that too - there are some people who have reported that eggs didn't agree with them. We shall see!! Tomorrow night I will try refried beans. Never thought I'd be excited about that. LOL Hope you are all doing well!! -
When Did You Advance To Mushy Foods?
Boofster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I Know that docs have very different timelines for food stages. I go to my follow up appt. tomorrow (9 days out) and am hoping to move on to soft foods. When were you allowed mushies? -
Would U Do It With Bmi Of 38?
Boofster replied to NurseMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about your height and was 10 lbs heavier pre-op. The co-morbs did it for me. Yes, i needed to lose weight badly. Ive been 126 and I've been 226... Actually highest was 263. Its one thing to be obese; its another to have related diseases for which you are forever tied to medication and in all liklihood will shorten your life. Did I want to be that Mom who needs a scooter at 60 because she can't stand for more than 10 minutes? No way. When I heard that the surgery would effectively decrease or eliminate my diabetes and HBP, that was the clincher. I signed on and never looked back. Sleeved on the 19th. Blood sugars have been the lowest in years (sans meds) and BP is close to normal... So, I say, do it. Bye bye co-morbs!! Hello health and feeling good. -

Im one week out. Really pushed myself physically yesterday with shopping, putting up Christmas tree, housework, etc. Well, I really paid for it last night, waking up with soreness and pain in the belly area. So I guess when they say rest, they mean it! Don't push yourselves too hard - give your body time to heal.

Since my surgery a week ago, I've had a slightly runny nose... Maybe that's connected too. -
Goal Weight Today!

Saweet!! So inspiring. Can't wait to get there. You look great. -
Got the shake on amazon...12 individual packets was something like $23. Worth it. And I sometimes add either unsweetened cocoa powder or MIO in tangerine/orange to change it up. The orange flavoring is esp good b/c it tastes like a creamsickle!
-
One week out., Today I've had Chobani plain yogurt, creamy tomato soup, creamy chicken soup, water, Crystal Light Decaf Iced Tea and protein shake - Syntrax Nectar Vanilla Bean Torte. I go for my follow up on Wednesday and am hoping that the doc will move me to mushies - I feel like I need something more substantial... I am missing Italian food the most but have a substitute planned when the time comes - ricotta cheese, a bit of tomato sauce and mozz cheese.

Boofster replied to selbradey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great, Imagine! Congrats!! I'm down a couple of lbs since the surgery but I feel like my stomach is pretty swollen still. I wonder when this will finally go down. So anxious for this to happen! -
Tools For Eating For Those Measuring Portions
Boofster posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those recently post op or watching their portions....I've been using 4 oz. ramekins to eat out of. This has been helpful, as we have to closely watch portion sizes now (sooo easy to go overboard if you don't know sizes...been there...oofa). You can get them anywhere, Walmart, Target, maybe even food stores...but here's what they look like. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/small-ramekin/s682675 Also, have been using plastic spoons which are smaller than regular teaspoons. Anything that helps, right? Any other suggestions out there? -
Mixed Feeling, It Hurts!
Boofster replied to SweetSaso's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya. I was sleeved on Monday 11/19.. My parents, who are wonderful, stayed with me and brought some dishes to eat while here. I was doling out sausage n peppers and Pasta n meatballs to everyone else. I was drooling inside but tried to be strong. I also cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner for my immediate family on Thurs. It was torture not being able to have any. I kept on course with my program, and just kept thinking of the many scale and non-scale victories that are to come. Also that there will be many thanksgivings to come. I understand that our hormones are doing flips after surgery and this may account for some of the emotions that we're feeling. It's hard to be strong at times but we will do it - there's so much proof on this site! -
Shopping For New Gyms In South Jersey
Boofster replied to selbradey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feeling good. Taking Prilosec 1st thing in the a.m. And it helps with acids. Doc prescribed it for the next 6 months! Doing mostly yogurt, cream soups, pea soup, protein shakes and liquids. It's a lot. -
Some of it was stomach acid for me. It's kind of leveling out. I've been doing cream soups, pea soup, etc and if the have chunks I pulverize them in the blender. You can also add protein powder to this and sneak in some protein at the same time.

Unable To Burp Gas Away... Help!
Boofster replied to PetraLuxor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What helped me was walking, Gas-x, laying on my side with a thin pillow to support my belly ( almost always produced a good fart), and sitting up and then bending my legs out to the side and putting my feet sole to sole. It will happen in time. I swear!! -
Need To Listen To My Tummy

I overdid it a bit on cream soup last night and it was gross. I don't want that feeling ever again.
