Why aren't I happy with the weight loss?
DayByDay replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please don't be disheartened. Like everyone says here, it is a journey, it wont happen overnight. I know that everyday I follow the rules and do what I am supposed to do is a day closer to goal. Some people get there faster some people get there slower, but I am determined to get there (eventually). I've lost 44lbs in 7 months (since surgery). I know people on this board with my same stats who are 20-40lbs ahead of me. Why? I don't know. I exercise. I eat what I am supposed to do. It is just my body. As long as I know that I am doing the right things I know I will get there eventually. Besides, loosing at a slower pace gives your brain a chance to keep up with the weight loss. I follow this blog: http://www.300poundsdown.com/ This lady is a true inspiration. She is taking a break right now but her past posts are really inspiring. Take care. -
Why aren't I happy with the weight loss?
DayByDay replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel your pain. I lost 48lbs pre-op and did not see a difference. I had to loose close to 80lbs before it was noticeable to me. Just last month (7 months out from surgery) I ditched my size 24 pants. Much to my surprise my new jeans were a size 18. You just never really know where the inches are coming off. And I agree with everyone else, your brain plays tricks on you. -

So what did you figure out about being thinner?

I'm still loosing, but after an 80lb+ loss, what I notice most is how people treat you differently. People are nicer to me. -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
DayByDay replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get it, it can be very frustrating. I have been loosing and gaining the same 5lbs for the last two months. At one point was down to 198 then back up at 203. I lost 48lbs before the surgery, lost 37lbs after the surgery. And at my 6 month dr visit, she jumped all over me for not doing enough exercise. So I stepped up my exercise routine to two hours a day, weightlifting 3-4 times a week, walking over 5 miles a day (most of it uphill). And keeping my calories to 1200 a day. After two weeks of sticking to the schedule I did not loose a single pound. Really bummed me out. I have been losing inches. Which makes me happy. And I know some of it is muscle. Its just that dang Dr Visit that made me feel so bad. Like I've been sitting around doing nothing the last 6 months. I'm doing all I can. Aside from quitting my job and making exercise my full-time job (so not going to happen). Oh well, pity party over. -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
DayByDay replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've also been discouraged. Only lost 6lbs in the last two months. Got a huge lecture from the Nurse Pract at my doctor's office. Which really bummed me out. I have started stepping up my exercise to two hours a day, combination of weightlifting, kettlebell training, and 4.5 mile walk a day. -
Attention February 2013 Sleeve Buddies!

For those stuck in a stall, just keep doing what you are doing. I finally, finally saw some scale movement. After about 6 weeks of being stuck, the scale is finally moving. I tried every trick in the book but in the end I just trusted the process. I did stop logging my food because it was just making me crazy to see how little I was eating and not getting any results. If I feel myself slipping I'll start logging my food again. Mainly I keep track of my activity with my fitbit. Trying very hard to make my 10,000 steps a day goal. Not so easy when you have a desk job. Just 1.8lbs to go before I drop below 200. We can do this! Weightloss since surgery: 39.2 Weightloss pre-op: 48 Total loss: 87.2 -

I know what you mean. I have lost 34lbs since my surgery. (I lost 48lbs before the surgery.) I've tried every trick in the book. Decreased calories, increased calories, exercised more, exercised less, monitored everything I ate, kept my daily carbs under 50, taking in 100 ounces of Water a day (not easy). And nothing has really helped move the scale. Very hard to stay motivated at this point. I just kind of chuckle when I hear comments about surgery taking the easy way out. This is easy? I've had to work harder to loose 32lbs then the first 48lbs. I am happy, overall I've lost over 80lbs. I was just hoping to be under 200lbs at this point. Such a huge goal for me. I've also been working with my NUT and she is fine with what I have done so far. Anyway, each person is different, so the liquid diet may or may not help. It is all an experiment. Don't give up. Keep trying. -
Dr Visits- did you know there are no fat Pow?
DayByDay replied to BellaHugz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't you wish you had a super power to change skinny people who make those kind of remarks into fat people? I have so been there. Like walk a mile in my shoes. It's not that easy, if it was wouldn't everybody be skinny? I think the only thing I could say to her was, "Thank you, I never knew that, I wish someone would have told me." -
When did your "honeymoon phase" end?
DayByDay replied to jensjoy28's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm mystified by the honeymoon period term. Never experienced it. I myself never lost weight easily. I'm at the 5 month mark and lost about 33lbs. (I lost 48lbs before the surgery) And I've really had to work at those 33lbs just as hard as the 48lbs. Not complaining. Overall I am happy with my weight loss have no regrets over the surgery. My dietitian says I am on the right path. I just keep marching forward. -
How do you know when you are full?
DayByDay replied to momo23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is different for everyone. For me is was a tiny burp. I found out by trial and error. If I had one more bite after that burp I was very sorry. Some people get a runny nose as a signal. It is about eating slowly and listening to you body. Also, the denser the food the faster you fill up. I hope this helps. -
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Isolate
DayByDay replied to buckeyefan1985's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use this and really like it. It doesn't have that protein smell. The good news is that Costco has an amazing return policy. It you try it and don't like it you can return it. -
The scale isn't the only way to measure progress. One way: Take your measurements each month. Another way: Use smaller sized clothing as a way to measure progress. I go into my closet pull out the next smaller size to see if I can fit them. It is a fun experiment. Both options are great when you are at a stall because you tend to start loosing inches rather than the scale moving.

Quitting caffeine before surgery
DayByDay replied to wasabi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about a month to quit Diet Coke. It wasn't easy. I stepped down my use of caffeine (coffee), but didn't give it up until I had to fast for the surgery. -
discouraged, stupid thyroid
DayByDay replied to angry's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a hypothyroid, they put me on medication. Checked my levels and I was fine. The good news for me was that it made it easier for me to loose weight. I lost 10lbs the first month I was on the medication. -
This whole eating thing is hard......
DayByDay replied to Cheer Mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We've all been there. I have resorted to tiny spoons and small dishes. That helps a lot. -
So people at work are finally noticing my weight loss. You'd think that would be a good thing. However that is all they want to talk about. I try to talk to the Project Manager about the progress I am making on my work and she blows me off. However she has no problem asking me how much weight I've lost, what am I doing to loose weight, etc. She'll walk right by me and completely ignore me to talk to other people on our team but when she decides to talk to me it is always about weight. What am I a walking scale? Anyway, glad I got that off my chest. Life goes on.

Getting soooo scared of failure
DayByDay replied to mendymayhem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best revenge is success. But I get what you are going through. My family (Mom, Dad, and Brother) can't stand it when good things happen to me. They have sabotaged every important event in my life. So I cut them out of my life. They don't even know that I'm loosing weight. It's really sad but I've had to accept it. I have changed my life for the better I've lost many friends along the way as. Some say that people like that aren't really your friends, but one day I looked up and everyone was gone. That made me sad. So I've built a new life for myself, a nice man in my life, a daughter, and many other great things to come. -

What do I do now?
DayByDay replied to Thenewmrssmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The main thing to ask your insurance company is if it has a specific exclusion in your policy that calls out WLS is not covered. If it does there isn't anything you can do. A million appeals won't work, they will not cover it. I know because my policy does not cover it no matter how sick your are. So I was self paid.
