Feeling Hungary More Often
Getting There replied to katrina81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sip on an Isopure 0 Carb ready to drink bottle throughout the day. I split the Isopure into 2 bottles and fill the bottles with a complimentary zero calorie flavored water. It makes the Isopure taste better. Provides a total of 40 gr Protein and 40 oz fluids (both bottles). That provides a bit a protein throughout the day. Seems to help the hunger a little. I am having trouble getting in enough calories - haven't made it over 400 calories yet (I'm 2 1/2 weeks post surgery). But I feel great and my surgeon seems OK with what I'm doing...... I'm sure that next week, when I start pureed foods, it will be easier to get my calorie count higher. -
Nervous About Hospital Stay
Getting There replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I used (from a bunch of stuff that I took) were ear plugs and lip balm. The day of surgery you're going to be sleeping most of the time - or walking every couple of hours. I really didn't feel like doing much else. The second day started with a test to check for leaks. After that, I watched TV and napped between walks (walk, walk, walk - you won't really want to, but it really does make a difference in how you feel). I went home late afternoon the day after surgery. I very much doubt you'll be spending much time on your laptop - positioning for that will probably be uncomfortable. And the hospital really is the best place to be (as annoying as it can be with people in and out of your room taking vitals, etc.). If you need meds for pain or nausea, the nurses are right there - and I PROMISE, the shot of pain meds is MUCH better than swallowing the liquid pain meds you'll have at home. In my case, I only needed liquid Tylenol a couple of times after I got home. I'm 2 weeks post-surgery and feel great! Plenty of energy and have lost about 20 pounds (going back to the start of the liquid diet that was for 2 weeks pre-surgery). I walk at least twice a day for at least 15 minutes each time. And just uncovered my treadmill so plan to increase that. Best of luck - you'll do fine! -
Vitacraves And Other Gummy Vitamins
Getting There replied to aprilcarrie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just threw away the Bariatric Advantage vitamins - horrible! I bought Centrum chewables. I like those vs many others since they also contain essential minerals. Many multi-vitamins (including most "gummies") don't have any minerals. The Centrum aren't too bad. -
Pushing It?
Getting There replied to lisa.mccroskey@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Lisa! I think we all know how hard this is. I'm two weeks post-op. My surgeon was very adament about progressing very slowly from clear liquids to creamy liquids, etc. If your surgeon didn't provide the info to you, may I suggest that you go to http://www.forestparkmc.com/. Click on Dallas, then on the left side click on Weight Loss Surgery. Then towards the right, click on Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Instruction Manual. This will give you a very complete idea of what your food and liquid choices should be. It's very close to what my surgeon gave me. I totally agree with those above who have expressed concern with what you're doing. Your stomach has been through a major trauma and it needs special care to heal. If you're struggling, PLEASE contact your surgeon's office and discuss your concerns - they are used to questions and have heard it all before. They won't judge, but will hopefully teach, encourage and offer you much needed support. Best of luck! -
Feeling Hungary More Often

So what, exactly, is head-hunger vs. normal hunger? My stomach has the same hunger feelings it had pre-surgery so I'm not really sure what the difference is...... I understand the feelings of craving the taste, texture, etc. of "real" food, but what I'm feeling isn't that as much as it is "hunger pains." I'm currently drinking at least 60 oz/day, intake is at least 50 gr of protein/day, I have a planned breakfast, lunch and dinner with a protein "power-up" twice a day. I've been religious about following the rules starting with the 2-week pre-surgery liquid diet, but this feeling of being hungry is getting to me! I really just want reassurance that it will go away eventually as I would hate to think that I'll have this feeling for many more months........ -

Mix cottage cheese with ricotta cheese. Add a bit of sugar free vanilla pudding mix and a few drops of lemon juice - kind of like cheesecake.

I Hate My Pre-Op Diet!
Getting There replied to NDN_RN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stick with it! I'm 2 weeks post-surgery and I'm still om liquid only (1 more week, then I progress to baby food consistency). Try some of the various recipes to make things more interesting. I love chocolate protein powder with splash of Torani sugar free caramel or chocolate syrup, a heaping teaspoon of instant decaf coffee and a sprinkle of coffee. Try chicken or beef broth for a savory flavor. Good luck - I know it will be worth it - for all if us -

I'm 2 weeks post-surgery and have been feeling hunger for the past couple of days too. I'm taking an acid reducer daily. I'm still on liquids only of course and am relying on Isopure Zero Carb for most of my protein (40 grams/20 oz bottle), having 3-4 1/2 cup servings of either soup or protein shake/day. Will the feelings of hunger pass? It's pretty disheartening. -
I had sleeve done by Dr Kim on 9/10. So far, so good! I do feel actual hunger at times throughout the day, but I'm hoping that will diminish as I am able to 1) increase calorie count (hard to get above 400 calories right now) and 2) am eating more "solid" foods - still on liquid only.
