How many people ACTUALY die or have complications?
WorkItOutWoman replied to danelle235's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask your specific surgeon how many leaks deaths their specific practice has had. This is a better Indictator IMO. -

They will measure you. Your first weigh in with the surgeon is your official bmi for insurance purposes. They don't expect you to lose a ton of weight and be successful or you wouldn't need surgery. I didn't lose a pound in my 6 month preop and was approved. I did try but I suck at losing. The awesome thing is I didn't gain. Also last year this time I went to my initial wls seminar and learned the requirement for vsg with my insurance was a bmi greater than 50! I didn't lose weight in the beginning because my bmi was "only" 41 and I thought I would have to appeal a denial. Four months into my preop the requirement changed to bmi of 40. I encourage you to start the process now requirements change so get a jump start. -

Go to your consultation wear really heavy clothes and your clunkiest boots. Hell stick a few rolls of quarters in your pocket and scrunch down a little when your height is measured. It sounds like a joke but ..... -

Calling All March 18 Sleevers
WorkItOutWoman replied to Melinda1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all I was sleeved 3/18/2013. Due to weather I missed my 6 week follow up and nutrition appointment this week. I am starting to freak out over how much I should be eating. Nothing has disagreed with my sleeve so far. I have been measuring 2 oz portions at a time. Is anyone eating more? What are you eating? I am on myfitnesspal pal. My name is workitoutwoman there as well. I would love to see what others are doing. I also have created some recipes on my page. Maybe we can share the journey. Please add me. -
Does anyone have BCBS blue advantage? I have to attend 8 months of dietary classes.
WorkItOutWoman replied to Roiemorris's topic in Insurance & Financing
Call your Insurance and ask what the requirements are. I swear those dietary meetings do not sound like they will be covered by insurance and will have to be paid out of pocket by you. -

Old Habits Die Hard...
WorkItOutWoman replied to MsVictorious1020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Lilbearzmom your attempt at sarcasm really does not speak to the true intent of the OP topic. I am on the board for accountability and sound advice. My surgeon did not tell me everything but i did have the good sense to seek out information on my own. Congrats on the 95 lb loss. -

Congrats on the loss. That strength training at home sounds like great advice I am starting cardio at the gym tomorrow but the machines intimidate me. Can you share your at home strength training regimen? Thanks. -
I think you have to be pretty f****d up not to pass the psych eval honestly, although on another site I frequent one person could not get surgery because of "failing" the eval. Because I am such a nice person I didn't say "you couldn't pretend to be normal for 45 minutes". *Edited to add there are people with real mental illness concerns and in my attempt at humor I don't want to disparage them. I completely believe you have to be mentally prepared before you remove 80% of your stomach.

Werk hunty! You have done an awesome job! -
The truth of the matter is that most people who aren't 100 lbs overweight follow some sort of "diet". It is what it is folks. Being healthy means following a plan and exercise.

I went a week without taking my multi. Ar first I was doing flint stones but could not tolerate the sweet chalkiness. I decided to switch to a pill cut in quarters but when I tried to swallow I felt as though they were going to get stuck in my throat ( scary). I finally took the gummy multi yesterday and had no problems. I'm thinking the gummy is better than nothing.

I worried and fretted 3 days before. I have had no complications thus far and don't plan to. I did it because everything else has failed up to this point. Two days after surgery I allowed myself to feel truly pitiful that I had let myself go to the point of needing a drastic wls. I had a full on woe is me sob session and got it all out. I am now one month post op and 25 lbs down and so glad I had VSG.

It is so awesome to see people who look like me and have shared similar struggles doing so well. I can honestly say that is one of the great things about this site. -
Does surgery really make you feel full?
WorkItOutWoman replied to NewAshes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only a month out and had my first "meal" yesterday. 2 oz Tilapia and 8 edamame pods. I didn't feel full necessarily but towards the end I had a funny feeling that told me that is enough. I see how easy it would be to overheat and make myself sick if I had not measured.
