hi norma im sorry ya feel so neg at the moment about your decision to have the band. one thing is for sure though...if you hate it that much once your stomach has healed then dont bother to have a fill and the odds are you wont even know you have a band at all. as for people giving up trying to lose weight... sometimes when people have struggled with their weight for years as i have....oh yes and like oprah i have lost 8 stone and then regained it twice, to finally find a tool that not only gives a helping hand with losing the weight in the first place but will help ensure i dont put it all back on again is, as far as im concerned not giving up but quite the opposite.... like alex said its just like having a great weapon in ya arsenal and putting it to good use.. im not giving up im now fighting for a normal life that is not blighted by feelings of self hate and worthlessness. By having the band fitted ( which insidently i paid for myself) i now feel i have given myself the necessary toll, weapon , whatever ya wanna call it . to ensure that not only do i lose the weight...but for once i will keep it off. I also attend 3 step classes a week and also use my treadmill, crosstrainer and exercise bike every day... so im sorry you feel that having the band is like giving up cos i cant disagree with you more... im not giving up im fighting for every pound i lose and the band is just an ally as far as i am concerned. i do hope once you have had the band for a few months that you feel differently and your feelings change...we all mourn food for a while when first banded which is only natural but those feelings do go away...hope you feel better about it soon love tracey

hi shamrock glad to hear things are moving along for you.. must be so hard having to wait for your insurance to come through.. in the uk its either private pay or up to 2 yrs waiting on lists to have the op and only then if the health trusts agree to funding. good luck love trace

hi illsucceed i know when i felt like bingeing and it backfired after a couple of bites i did actually feel satisfied.....first real experience of that forever present "head hunger" i had prior to the band.... my head wanted to eat but my body didnt want to know... i still have head hunger but no where near as much as i did before being banded... love tracey

its soooo funny the way we all seem to think our bands talk to us....when my mum asked me to explain it i just said its like having a night club as a stomach and and the people are food. theres a big beefy doorman standing guard ready to tell ya when the club is full and if ya try to sneak in he will just eject ya quick smart...lol love tracey

Hi I have just had my second fill. My first fill was 4.2cc and my 2nd one was 3cc maiking a total of 7.2cc in a 10cc band. I cant believe what a difference it has made as i now have excellent restriction. I have a few questions about it though. I cant gulp water anymore is this ok? i can sip water and it goes down ok and i can definately feel it moving through my band. i havent tried food yet as im a bit aprehensive about being sick. whats the best proper solid food for me to try as im not sure? also it is normal to feel very tight in the am and slightly loser in the pm? I have more restriction now than when i was 1 day post op. is this normal? sorry to ask so many questions but until wednesday just gone i didnt even feel as though i had a band and now i dont feel hungry at all and have to remind myself to drink some broth etc. Also how long is it generally b4 the fill starts to slacken a little.? sorry again for asking so many questions in one post. love tracey

blossom...sorry to hear ya restriction got mucked up...now ive got it i dont want it to disappear as i am losing weight again.. i was also putting on and taking off the same 2 pounds for weeks which was a bit disheartening and i thought i was gonna be a band failure...but now ive had a good fill i dont feel like a failure waiting to happen i feel like im finally on a journey to shed the flab. Hey pat how ya doing...your loss is looking good...do you know what even though i am tight i havent slimed once.. have pb a couple of times but no slime.... sounds like seriously nasty stuff so im glad i havent had the pleasure of it.... i used to compare my weight loss to yours as we were banded the same day. i was always way behind you as far as weight loss went. now i know just how differently this band works for each of us and i dont compare anymore.... im happy to make my own journey...does that make sense or am i waffling lol... love tracey

Hi All ive tried to think about when i became fat. what was it linked to? what caused it? well i didnt have a great childhood. had an very abusive relationship with father of my kids (who i dumped years ago) and have a kid with adhd which is very stressful...am i stress eater? After giving it a lot of thought i have to be honest and say..... The reason i am fat is because i ate too much and didnt exercise enough..... cant blame anything other than myself for loving food so much and in big portions.... However even though i am brutally honest about my own obesity i do understand that for many people there is a trigger to their weight gain and this post is in no way meant to upset anyone who have a very real trigger i just trutfully cant blame anyone for the size of my hips other than myself.. love tracey

hi alex i think the fact that i can feel restriction now just made me a bit wary as i had a 4.2cc fill first time round and thought that the little bit of restriction it gave me is what the band was all about. to be honest i was a bit disapointed. But thats my own fault for comparing my fill to others on here. Hi blossom i can drink everything comfortably but no gulping. i can feel the fluid moving through the band which is quite reassuring in a strange way. What size is your band blossom cos i cant remember if it was a 4 or a 10cc? I tried a small amount of chicken breast with mashed carrott last night and it went down ok... But i was amazed at how little i ate and how full it made me feel. I dished it up on a side plate and still couldnt eat it all. im beginning to like this bandland...lol love tracey

i was lucky at school not to be too big . was called a fat b***H by a really skinny girl so i slapped her face really hard and she never called me it again. after that i was generally called just plain old b***h ...lol

the amount of difference in the restriction that people feel with different amounts of Fluid in theri bands is truely amazing. I have a 4.2 cc fill in a 10cc band and feel like i havent even had a drop put in it. And then there is blossom with same size band and less fluid in it and her restriction is really tight. Our bodies are wonderful bits of art aint they. Well i go for my next fill next wednesday so hopefully i will get the restriction i am craving lol. love tracey

Dont want to alarm you but just in case you are thinking about having rny instead of the band and want to weight up the risks they swing heavily in favour of the band. Another site i go on in the uk has lost two of its members in the last few months due to complications arising from ds and ryn but no losses from the band. When i spoke to my surgeon about success and high bmi he said he would band any bmi above 35. There are plenty of peeps on this forum with your starting weight. When i say lost i did mean they had died. love tracey

I have the 10cc band and its got 4.2cc in it at the moment. i felt restriction for about a week and then it disappeared so i am going back for another fill on 23rd this month. I think the bigger the band the bigger the fill is initially but in the later stages i think it levels out and becomes less aggressive. This is just what i have gathered from the different sites i go on related to bands. As for getting my head round the hunger bit its not perfect but its getting better. But i know without getting good restriction to go alongside retraining my eating habits that its going to be difficult to stay on track and lose the weight consistently. I am not too proud to admit that i need the help that the restriction gives me to kerb the amount of food i eat which was why i chose this surgery in the first place rather than the more invasive stapling techniques available. love tracey

Hi my port has flipped sideways so i have to have my fills with flouro as they have to palpate my tummy to get it into place so they can get a needle in. I asked my surgeon if i would need to have it re-sited and he said no. He said even if it did a full flip over that his radiographers are experienced enough with banded patients to be able to manipulate it back for a fill. I must admit that it was a bit uncomfortable when they were prodding and poking my tummy to move the port but i think i can cope with it as hopefully i wont need that many fills as my surgeon is quite aggressive with his fills. hope you get it sorted out love tracey
