    Almost A Month On Monday!

leahandgracy - Did the MD say why this happened? And more importantly, will it go away as your weight goes down?
  2. Wow!! Absolutely amazing! Great job! You are stunning! I'm so happy for you!
  3. Stay in touch with your MD and nutritionist. He needs protein and they should be able to help him find something he can tolerate - or prescribe something that will help decrease this response.

    Almost A Month On Monday!

leahandgracy - are you saying you've developed sleep apnea since the surgery? I've not heard that before and I've got to say - that's a little scary!
  5. I just checked, and mine seem to be working.
  6. Web MD - I posted the Web MD quote specifically because it listed one of the symptoms of gallstones as upper back pain. Of course, the missing gallbladder changes everything!
  7. I agree with the post just above - don't wait - call the surgeon or go to the ER for the shoulder blade pain.
  8. What Are the Symptoms of Gallstones? Gallstones often don't cause symptoms. Those that don't are called "silent stones." A person usually learns he or she has gallstones while being examined for another illness. When symptoms do appear, they may include: Pain in the upper abdomen and upper back. The pain may last for several hours. Nausea Vomiting Other gastrointestinal problems, including bloating, indigestion and heartburn, and gas From WebMD

    Hair Loss

This is quite unsettling. Has anyone past 6 months out not had severe hair loss?

    Gabby, how are you doing?

    Nausea

Great question about the pain meds - they can definitely cause nausea. Lemon drops (hard candy, sugar free) can help with nausea, and warm lemonade can hep with gas pains. I hope you feel better very quickly - nausea is just miserable.
  12. Northern NJ, surgery date December 19th.

    Hair Loss

You lose hair down to bald spots? This is not good news. Has anyone NOT experienced significant hair loss? My nutritionist info said it happens between 4-6 months but I'm wondering how bad it is?
  14. theoldmusicbox - great post, so encouraging, and so true! I haven't been sleeved yet, but if I lose slowly, I'm going to find and re-read your post!
  15. Congratulations! Kudos to your uniform lady for not only recognizing your amazing accomplishment, but also for advocating on your behalf for now and for the future! Kudos also to your employer for recognizing your healthy choice is going to benefit them as well and that you should be rewarded!

    Hospital :(

    Feel better!
  19. I am scheduled for December 19th and also feel embarrassed that something so many people can do... I can't seem to do. I haven't decided what I'm going to do although I know I'm not going to volunteer the info. I'd love to have a great comeback for inappropriate questions, but it is not a skill I have! I loved LeaveItToSleever's post! She, or he, has the skill I don't have!
  20. Amazing - you look fabulous and you are absolutely glowing!! Congratulations!

    An Update On Me

I do find it interesting that there are so many variations in the diet from surgeon to surgeon. Some have pre-op diets, some don't, some require only liquids for 2 weeks after, some are on pureed foods in the hospital. I hope this procedure becomes more standardized soon - based on evidence of what works best! I do wish you the best, am so glad you're feeling better, and WOW - 32 pounds in two weeks!!! Congratulations!
  24. The binder is great, but getting up the correct way after abdominal surgery is also very important. Don't sit up like you're doing a sit-up. Roll onto your side, hang your legs over the side of the bed, then push up with your arms. You can also apply extra support over the incision using one of your hands - flat palmed pressing lightly against your painful area. This reduces the pulling/stretching of the wounds.
