Please Help- Info On Post Op Diet Needed
betterfly posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I am looking to when I should schedule surgery and wonder how long after are you on liquid/soft food diet? How long till you can eat solids again? -
GiGi, what is your blog address?

I've heard it's normal to platuau 4-6 weeks out. Measure inches and keep watch. After a few weeks you should see the scale move again. Your body needs to catch up to your weight loss. Sounds like you lost 20 lbs in 1 month. That's awesome. Things are supose to slow down soon and you will see a slower, but still steady loss.

Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if you can share your beginning weight and your progress after plication. Thanks!

Plication is where they suture the stomach smaller, sleeve is where they surgically cut it smaller. Google it or check out the OCC website: obesitycontrolcenter.com. -
Through The Hospital Or Through An Agency?
betterfly posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Hi Everyone, I'm getting ready to book my surgery. After much research, I've decided to go with Dr. Ortiz through OCC. For others of you that had your surgery with Dr. Ortiz, did you book your surgery directly through him or did you have an outside agency book it for you? It seems you can get the surgery cheaper if you go through an agency, but I'm not sure if you can pick your own dr or if Dr. Ortiz would even be an option. Experiences, please? -
What Pre- op plan are you on and for how long? After the surgery (I hear) you will be full easily but will be hungry again every 2-3 hours. I plan on surgery early fall.

I'm still on the research end of it. I've contacted Dr. Ortiz and asked a bizzilion questions. They have been able to answer everything. I hav also connected directly with some people of similar start weight and goal weight to connect with their progress. So far, with a few exceptions, I've only heard good stories. Placation will only be a tool to support you. You have to be willing to maximize the tool. Your dr. matters. Find one who has been doing it for a long time and has tons of experience. Most negative stories I've heard are from people who have doctors young in the procedure. Good luck and keep us updated! -
Long Term Success / Consequences?
betterfly replied to h21's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Hmmmmm, looks like they've taken down the research and you now have to purchase it to have access to it. Figures. The study was done by Dr. Talebpour, from Iran, and he looked at the results of over 500 people after 10 years. Complication rate of less than 1%. 55% excess weight loss after 4 years. At 10 years, i believe it was the same. I was confused by this research since i had heard that there are not long term stats on the procedure. When I emailed Dr. Ortiz regarding the research, I was told that the surgery has been improved upon, and that it has been refined since the first plication patients. I expect the "new" stats will improve as well. If you google "Dr. Talebpour" his name comes up as "the father of the gastric plication procedure.". -
Long Term Success / Consequences?
betterfly replied to h21's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I've seen studies from patients 10 years out. The results were very encouraging. Not one had gained their weight back. No one had serious side effects. I found it especially encouraging because I know they have improved their techniques since then, so I think the current people involved in research will do even better. I'll try to find the research I'm referring to and will post it later. -

I haven't had the procedure yet, but have been studying these boards for a while now. I have seen other reports of vomiting, even up to almost a week out. But just to be safe better call your doc. -
Would love to connect with someone from Wisconsin (or Michigan) and hear about your experience.
