Going alone to Tijuana and scare to death
guate_mama05 replied to eortega's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I went alone and it was heaven!!!! I didn't find communicating difficult at all. The people at the Marriott speak English and the staff at my doctor's spoke English too! You will be fine! -
Help deciding between Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Aveces
guate_mama05 replied to ktgrace's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I agree with everything Cherbear said! I was there June 10th and had a wonderful experience. I never had any pain or nauseousness and haven't had any issues at all. Dr. Ortiz and the whole staff are so nice, patient and will happily answer any questions you have. Far better care than I have ever gotten in the US. I also went alone and it was heavenly. I'm a single mom to an 8 year old so the fact I could rest, nap and not have to answer any questions was awesome! Best of luck with your decision! -
Our experience with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Negras
guate_mama05 replied to gamergirl's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
gamergirl I think you are SO right about the expertise of the surgeon has something to do with recovery! I've thought that for a while myself! Glad you and your husband had a wonderful experience and I wish you both continued successful recoveries! -
Anyone have or had Dr. Ortiz? I dont see any mention of his name?
guate_mama05 replied to Heather Meyer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery with him on June 10th and had a wonderful experience and excellent care. No pain, no nausea and doing great! Highly recommend him! -
The OCC and Dr Ariel Ortiz?
guate_mama05 replied to Vetniemeer's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Kieshart so glad to hear you are doing well! I had that 'runners' pain the third day after surgery. For me it was gas and one of my fellow sleevers handed me some gel that did the trick! They were rather adventurous and had gone to Wal Mart and bought drinkable Yogurt (tasted heavenly on day 3 or 4) and other things! Don't know where they came up with that gel but I thought what the heck, I'll take it. My surgery was about 11:00ish I think and I was out until 9:00 that night when the doctor and nurse were checking on me. Went right back to sleep until midnight and out again! Welcome to the other side! -

Coordinators in Mexico?
guate_mama05 replied to hopin4health's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
In went alone and it was awesome. My surgery was at the OCC with Dr Ariel Ortiz and I was well taken care of by all concerned. From the driver to the staff at the OCC to the Marriott. I was never afraid for my safety and the Marriott was a great place to relax and recuperate. As a single mom of an 8 year old not worrying about anyone or having to answer 100 questions was so peaceful. -
I was there and with her June10th. Must have been not long after that.

When did Dr. Miranda leave? Any idea why?
-
I went by myself 4 weeks ago and it was a piece of cake! The alone time was WONDERFUL!
-
I know of another Ortiz patient that did Atkins for awhile before her surgery. You might shoot Dr. Miranda an email and ask her. She is the nutritionist.
-
I used the Enspira and it was wonderful. They have recently changed the formula and its NASTY!!! GROSS!!! They also cut in half the protein and tripled the carbs for some reason. I have been meaning to email Dr Miranda and ask why. The nutritional value on the website doesn't match what is on the new can.

Vetniemeer I totally understand being nervous. I was nervous for about a week before my surgery, but when I got to San Diego the nerves were gone! Not nervous at all the day of my surgery. I know 3 people personally that had band to sleeve revisions. Those cases are suppose to stay an extra day just because it's a different surgery and for precaution. All 3 of them did so well the extra day wasn't needed! I know of someone that made the switch to Dr. Ortiz at the last minute and she called him and talked to him. Ask to speak to him if that would make you more comfortable. He is sooo nice and wants the best for his patients.

Marriot popcicles!
guate_mama05 replied to thetattooedlady's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was there June 10th thru 13th and the Popsicles tastes like cantaloupe which I hate. I ate a few bites but they weren't my SF ones from home. -
I promise there is no reason to stay an extra day in the hospital. If they had ANY concern you weren't doing fine they wouldn't let you go. They check on you often throughout the afternoon and night. In walked out the next day without any pain or nausea. I was a little sore where my incisions were but that's it. The beds at the Marriott are heavenly! Like the Heavenly beds at a Westin if you've ever stayed there.

Go to obesitycontrolcenter.com. Then under Our Program there is a link to Enspira.

I used his protein shakes and vitamins and love them. I think his protein shakes are better tasting than Isopure and Unjury.

Speaks English and Uses Dermabond
guate_mama05 replied to Canary Diamond's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was just sleeved by Ariel Ortiz 2 weeks ago and like HoosierGirl I had a wonderful experience. Very smooth process and never had any pain or nausea at all. I slept until 9:00pm the day of my surgery and went back to sleep and walked out the next morning like I hadn't even had surgery. I truly believe Dr Ortiz years of experience are evident in his patients smooth process and easy recovery. He also used some sort of Derma Bond that bonds like crazy! I'm still picking it off! -
Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
guate_mama05 replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I tried to call the Marriott today from my home phone and couldn't call either! I don't have International calls blocked either. I ended up calling a local Marriott and she told me to call 1-800-MARRIOTT and I asked for Customer Care. They told me that they have 30 days to reverse the charge and it depends on my bank, basically how fast they process. I wasn't happy with this answer so I said can you tell me for sure the Marriott in Tijuana has released the charge. He couldn't so he took down all the information and forwarded it to their.....ooh I can't remember what he called their department......something like their business office. I gave him my email, cell and home phone numbers and someone from the Marriott in Tijuana should contact me. OK just checked my email and Jorge Monroy (jmonroy@grupodiestra.com) who is the Front Office Manager just emailed me and said there is no hold pending on my Mastercard. They immediately released the hold but I need to check with my bank.....release holds between 3 and 30 days depending on the bank. blah blah blah. This was a Citibank Mastercard! -
I was just sleeved by Dr. Ortiz 2 weeks ago and my whole experience was very smooth, easy and painless! I also went alone and I was fine! Actually I'm glad I went alone because I enjoyed the peace and quiet. Napped a little, watch some TV, napped a little, walked around the hotel....it was all great! I had no pain or nauseousness at all! I definitely think his 13 years of experience are evident in his patient's recovery. I can't say enough good about everyone at the OCC! You will be in excellent hands!

Why did the Marriott hotel charge my debit card?
guate_mama05 replied to Olivia23's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have a charge of $117.00 that has been pending since I left on June 13th! I guess I am doing to have to call my credit card company and take care of this. -

OCC & Dr. Ariel Ortiz - My Story
guate_mama05 replied to Trixie2012's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I know two people personally that have had a revision at the OCC and the only difference was the length of stay. Possibly 2 nights in the hospital and a couple more at the Marriott. Other than that, same procedure. -
My friends went to Ariel Ortiz at the OCC. I have never heard such things about Dr Ariel Ortiz.
-
803Misty - I have a very good friend from SC that was sleeved last May by Dr. Ortiz and has had a wonderful experience. Actually I have 2 friends that have been sleeved by Dr. Ortiz and both are very happy with their choice. I'm scheduled for June 10th and can't wait!
