3 days post opp and emotional!
Kelly123 replied to ShyV.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's from the IV's definately!!! DO NOT get upset! After a few days as the water drains out of you the weight will start coming off! You are going to see that scale go up and down a lot over the next few months so try your best eat healthy, eat protein first, drink lots of water and keep moving everyday and you will lose weight. I was highly emotional too after surgery, not sure why but I remember crying in my husbands lap hysterical because some people really socked it to me, but looking back on it now it was laughable!!! Congrats on your surgery and good luck to you! -
I like popcorn too. I only buy the 100 Calorie bags from pop secret tho. It keeps it within reason.
-
It could be what you ate too. Try different things. Chew thoroughly and slowly. Take very small bites. You shouldn't be eating more than 4oz at a time and that really isnt alot. Good Luck!

I Dont Kno Any More- Bmi
Kelly123 replied to gelen's_change's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don' t be discouraged. With this surgery you have to have the issues inorder to qualify. Your lucky that you don't have the serious health problems. Just keep doing what your doing and when your BMI hits 40 you should qualify. I know better than anyone else that losing weight is important. I could lose it before this surgery, but I always gained it back. What does your doctor say? -
I tend to eat to fast too. Sometimes by the time I get to sit down and eat I am so hungry I just stuff it in so fast. Granted it's not a lot of food, but because I eat it too fast I end up over eating. It's not good. I have a hectic lifestyle between work, home and a toddler it's hard to remember what I should be doing!

Good luck to you Tiffany on your surgery!

I had a two week pre-op diet of only liquids. It was the hardest thing ever!!! I had to get in 3-4 Protein shakes a day and 64oz of Water. I was allowed to eat sugar free Jello, pudding and crystal lights and Soup. I lost 12 or 14lbs. I did cheat also but it was on grilled chicken and broccoli! @ Badkness beer is not in your future. You can just forget about alcohol altogether for at least the next 6 months if not longer. The point of the pre-op diet is to not only jump start rapid weight loss but to also shrink your liver so it its easier to handle during surgery. If it's too big they will just sew you right up and be done without doing anything to your stomach and this will be all for not. After surgery the carbonation of beer will make you sick. Besides you will only be drinking 4oz at a time anyway. Start cutting down now!!

I had my surgery on 9/26. I'm down 43lbs so far. I had no issues what so ever. Best decision I could have made. Not sure what issue would arise from this surgery down the road. So long as you eat healthy and follow the rules there really shouldnt be any problems. Gastric Bypass, I would avoid. Then you are looking at malabsorption and with that can come a host of issues. I say go for it!!! You will find the money. I did by using a credit card and by taking money out of my IRA. It's a small price to pay for the rest of my life!

Frustrated! :( Feeling Really Down.. :(
Kelly123 replied to msemma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled too (during week 2-3) but now I am losing on average 3-5lbs a week. That will change tho, and I know it. You need to get your shakes in and up your water intake. Make sure you are hitting your calorie goals, because what was said above is true. If your body goes into starvation mode it will not burn any fat. It's a fact. I had a friend that did the starvation diet and cried that she didn't lose any weight but was only eating a bagel and a piece a fruit a day. You'll get thru it! -
Lucky Me, I Had To Be One Of The Few That Had A Hard Time With Nausea After My Sleeve!
Kelly123 commented on NewBeginningsForMe2012's blog entry in Kathy Tyler's Blog
Good for you! I dealt with nausea also. It was pretty ba when I was in the hospital. It would just hit me like a ton of bricks and my mouth would just start watering on controllably. They gave me the meds and it didn't help. Finally on the third day it started going away and was completely gone by the fifth day. I too have no regrets. I am 7weeks out tomorrow and down 43lbs! It's been great! Good luck to you! -

1 Day Post Op, Lots Of Pain :(
Kelly123 replied to healthiermom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will get better. I liked to keep ice on my belly. I would do it all day and night. I sucked down the liquid pain meds when I needed it. I just used a chaser like I was doing a shot of alcohol. Take it easy if your in that much pain! No need to rush yourself. Relax a little. -
Surgery Nov 19Th, But I Am In School Full Time And In Need Of Advice, Please.
Kelly123 replied to sct's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say if I were you I would take 2 weeks. You may get by, but you may not. You are going to be tired and dizzy and faint. These are facts. My surgery was great, I had absolutely no issues what so ever, but I was exhausted after doing nothing. I mean I would go to the store, but I was dead to the world after that same thing after cleaning the house and doing laundry. The smallest of tasks will wipe you out. I could not even begin to imagine lifting heavy text books, taking mass transit or climbing anymore than 4 stairs at a time within a week of surgery. I really don't think there is anything that you could do in order to better prepare yourself for it either. Your body will be malnourished plain and simple and it takes time to get back on your feet full swing. Time is what you need. I just would not feel comfortable to tell you that you could do it after being thru it myself and knowing what it's all about. -
10 Days Post Op... 1 Lb Lost! Help
Kelly123 replied to jillb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is going to sound weird but you have to eat or in your case drink in order to lose. You should be getting 50 to 60 grams of protein and 64oz of fluid. Hit those goals and start walking a little bit and the weight will start coming off. Good luck! -
I work in an office too, 40 hours a week, plus I am a mom of a two year old. I had to stay two nights in the hospital. I had no choice in the matter. I am grateful for those two days. I mostly slept and relaxed. I had issues with nausea so I had to be given meds. I also took full advantage of the morphine. No sense being in any discomfort!!! It helped me relax and sleep too! I suggest staying at least one night, but I have to say I'm surprised you have a choice. I took 2 weeks off of work. My boss was none too happy about it, but she knew for long time I was having this surgery and I had the time to take off. I'm happy I did too. I had a perfect surgery and probably could have gone back earlier, but you will be tired and groggy and if you can take two weeks off, do so!!! You may need it!

Kelly123 replied to nanaspez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its totally normal to have second thoughts. I am 4 weeks out today. I remember the anticipation in those days leading up to my surgery. You're gonna be fine and you are gonna do great! All the worries will slip away when you realize it really isnt that bad. I had minimal pain and was up and moving that night. Good luck on Tuesday and just know, you are making the best decision! -
5.5 Months Out, 61 Pounds Down, Sz 26- 14 And Feel Fatter Than Ever
Kelly123 replied to slimshadee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your weight loss! You have so much to be proud about. There is this common misconception that this is the easy way out and I must say, that idea is dead wrong! So good for you on getting this far! I can understand how you feel fatter now then before, you have extra skin that probably seems to poke out every where. My thoughts would be to look for panties that fit and maybe even go to thongs so you dont get that bunched up feeling! Try spanx or another type of brand of underwear that gives you support. I also like bras with at least three to four clasps. I find the wider the back strap is the less of a fat roll I have going on back there. Bottom line you are gonna have to exercise and find the store that has clothes that best fit you. OH, I would also avoid low rise jeans. Try to find higher waisted pants that you can kinda tuck yourself into. I love Lane Bryant although they are pricey! Good luck!!! -
Wow - Just Added Up The Cost Of My Surgery - $81865.22
Kelly123 replied to mufasas-mom's topic in Insurance & Financing
I thought mine was lot at $64,000!! -
It is scary and your putting alot of faith into your doctor. Just follow the instructions to a T and take it easy those first few days. Move around as much as you can but take it slow. I'm 4 weeks out today. I have lost a total of 35lbs, 21lbs since surgery. I'm losing about 3-5lbs a week, My knees already don't bother me, and it looks like I will be cutting my BP meds in half since they are lowering my BP too much! I hope to be off the drugs within the next few weeks. Please keep us updated on your journey!

Had My Surgery On The 24 Of September 2012
Kelly123 replied to sambrooklyn's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
One thing I have learned is every doctor is different!!!! I was on clear liquid for one week, full liquid the second week and now pureed food this week. Next week I start soft food, but I have skipped ahead and had a few soft food items. I will not puree meat and drink it so I will sneak bites of grilled chicken or baked fish. I chew like crazy and take small bites. I would stick to what your doctor said tho. There could be a reason why he wants you to do what you are doing. -
"normal Life" Down The Road?
Kelly123 replied to Getting There's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can go to Paris and enjoy your food!!!!! A bite here and there is not going to hurt. Share with the person you are with. Take 3 or 4 bites and walk away. But enjoy those bites. Also excercise!! You want a rich dessert then make sure you are taking a good long stroll thru the streets of paris and burn it off. It's only this hard right now. It will get better 3, 4, 5, months down the road!!! -
"normal Life" Down The Road?
Kelly123 replied to Getting There's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think once we get to a certain point we will be used to what we are doing and then it will be our new normal. I am just over 2 weeks out. I do watch what I am eating to a point but I would not say I am going crazy. I listen to my body and I stop when I am full. I already have a good idea of what 6 oz of meat looks like so I don't really have to think about it. Some say you have to measure everything and be aware of everything. I agree to a point but there are simpler ways. Just make sure you are mostly eating meat or high protein foods and drink as much water as you can. You'll be fine. -
Had My Surgery On The 24 Of September 2012
Kelly123 replied to sambrooklyn's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had my surgery on the 26th of Sept. I hit a stall this past week too and gained 2lbs even. I have now lost the 2lbs. I'm just trying to stick to the program. Right now I am on baby food consistancy. I have dabbled in more solid food here and there with out problems. I look foward to getting the green light on eating most foods. It's hard when you are so limited. -
Measuring And Weighing Liquids And Food
Kelly123 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first week out I was very careful to measure my 2oz of clear liquids but when it comes to drinking at 16 days out I don't really measure by the oz anymore and I sip through out the day on my water or Crystal Light. I now how many oz are in the bottle or my cup but I'm not as careful with the 4oz rule I am at now. Same goes for my protein shakes. I just sip on them for like an hour until they are gone which is 11oz. Or if I just want a little I will only drink half and save the rest for later. My point is, is it bad that I am freely drinking through out the day? When it comes to meats I am more cautious. Small can of Tuna is 3oz and last night when I had chicken breast I did weigh the piece and it came in just under 8oz so I ate half of it. I'm not going crazy weighing and measuring I'm just letting my body take the lead especially when it comes to liquids. I am sure not to drink before, during and after meals tho! What is every one else doing?
