Dont be a tough guy - take your meds
RobH replied to NurseGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NurseGrace, I broke my ankle 4 mos ago and have been on several diff. pain meds constantly since then. I've not had any pain meds in over 48 hrs other than ibuphropen and my pain level is sky rocketing after being on my feet grocery shopping for an hour. I broke down and took a T3 a few min ago, can't stand the shooting pains going through the ankle. And I knew if I took the IB i'd be bent over with a stomach ache since I skipped solid lunch today and opted for a protein shake. I think I'll give my WLS surgeon a call tomorrow and ask him about the nsaids. Thanks so much for responding. -
Dont be a tough guy - take your meds

I need some advice please. I was sleeved at the end of July and with a stroke of bad luck at the end of October I broke 3 bones in my ankle... I had open reduction surgery to put hardware in my ankle and was on strong painkillers for 2 months. The ortho surgeon moved me to Tylenol 3 for 2 more months. I saw him the other day and he said quit taking T3 and start taking advil for pain. I explained to him I'd had WLS and I was sleeved and have concerns about taking Nsaids. He said it was o.k. My problem is this, although it is working ok for the pain, it's giving me a bad stomach ache. I've read here to stay away from advil due to possibility of ulcers. What should I do? What do ya'll suggest? -
The brand I use is EAS AdVANTage Choc. flavor. Low carbs, 17 gms protein and It taste good chilled well.

Need The Voice Of Experience Here... !
RobH replied to LizInTexas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to agree with the above posts..... Too much too soon..... I've just reached 8 weeks and been given the ok to eat anything except alcohoi. One thing I'd like to suggest to you is to try a protein drink called EAS Advantage Chocolate. This is a premade drink and has 15 gms of protein in the 11 oz box and tastes good. Put it in the freezer til it's just starting to turn slushy but don't let it freeze. Just to get some protein into you and not in a frothy, foamy smelly drink that's going to gag you. I'm sorry you're having such difficulties and wish you the best of luck. Keep looking forward and just keep trying the protein for now. Forget about food til your new stomach can handle it. Listen to the advise of those who have more experience (more than me) I just wanted to throw out the brand I was able to stomach in the beginning. Good luck! -
I just found out from my surgeon why I was suppossed to wait til 3 months post-op... If there is a raw edge from the staple line, putting the alcohol on it can ulcerate it. Yikes, I'm resigned to wait for 4 more weeks now.

Hi I'm copying this from the booklet I received from my NUT for the clear liquid diet. Drink at least 64 oz. of these liquids daily to prevent dehydration. Also replace breakfast, lunch and dinner with one serving of an approved protein drink. You need at least 60-80 gms of protein daily. Thin broths or bouillon and bases No added sugar gelatin 100% fruit juice (apple, grape or cranberry) diluted half and half with water. Sugar-free drinks like Kool-Aid and Crystal Light Sports drinks such as Gatorade or PowerAde diluted half and half with water Sugar-free fitness waters, such as Propel and Fruit20 K2 Protein Water No sugar added/sugar free Popsicles and frozen ice Coffee and herbal and flavored tea, hot or cold No sugar added hot apple cider Artificial sweetener or naturally sweetened water with fruit or Stevia Hope this helps.....Best of luck with your pre-op diet

My surgeon gave me a list of high protein foods with amounts of protein in them. Here's the link (hopefully) if you want to print it off http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/highproteinfood.htm

Are Any Of You Stii Using Your Cpap?
RobH replied to beefalogal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still using mine 2 months post-op. I was told to bring mine with me to the hospital when I had the WLS. I'm very curious why they told you not to use yours. -
Anyone Else Willing To Share Their Reasons For Having Surgery?
RobH replied to lovex5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, Your list is almost identical to my "personal" list. I have severa comorbidities and also want to be able to go off many of my meds as I get healthier. I hope we both reach our goals. Good luck to you! Rob
