    Horror Story

Whew, What a mess. It surprises me that so many people are up in arms about this post. What we experience is our reality. If you are of the same experience or mindset you can find support in the other people that post here. If not, continue to scroll down and you will find someone different that you can relate to. I personally appreciate members that are supportive of each other regardless of their point of view. Iggy, Deano, OTR, Butterbean and some others can have their opinions and are respectful to others when posting or replying. I appreciate all of your input and class.

    Anxiety level red!

Obsidian, I understand where you are coming from. I have had a couple surgeries and I was a mess the night before. I have also suffered from anxiety and depression and know how debilitating they can be. If you have not talked to your doctor about how your feeling now I would do so. Maybe they would prescribe something for the next two weeks that would help you get through this time. I also agree with the previous poster. If you have a therapist it would help to talk. In the meantime, why not try writing down your dreams and hopes for once you are at your goal? I also have a lot of wt to lose. I am sure that life is difficult for you right now and that you have things that you would like to be doing that you are not able to do now. For me it is riding horses. What is it for you? Can you picture that lighter, healthier you? What is she doing? How does she, or he-- as I do not know what sex "Obsidian" is lol, The sleeve is a tool that will help you. I don't think you can afford not to do this, can you? I wt 350 now and this surgery is a lifeline for me. I feel like there is a pot of gold on the other side and I can't wait to get to it even though the path is full of difficulty. Two weeks must feel like a long time right now but it is going to fly. You are going to be okay and you are going to be taking the right steps toward a healthier you. If you would like to friend me please do. Do some things you love. Go to the show, read, treat yourself (without food) and pamper yourself. You can get through this and you will be in a better place this time next year. Best wishes to you. Delena

My date is 2/19. It is really going to be a whole new life. I can't even imagine it. I am nervous about the lifestyle changes and pray that I am successful. Best wishes to you! first appointment tomorrow!

Best of luck Petra! I have my final appt with my surg tomorrow. I will get my surgical date. It sounds like your visit is to approve you for surgery. I had to go to a doc for that too. IT was about 1.5 hours and mostly talking and asking questions about my history. I had already had all my bloodwork and EKG etc. HOpe that helps! Seems everyone does things differently but that was my experience. Delena

    Back and Abdominal pain

Agreed, you need to address this because if it is your gallbladder this pain will not go away. It is definitely the more horrible pain I have ever had! I'm sorry you have to go through this .

    Awaiting my sleeve.

You're spinning around like a himalya right now, huh! I totally understand where you are coming from. I am also preop and I will get my date on the 11th. When I first decided that I was going to do this I started eating even more uncontrollably than usual. It was me coming to terms with my future and a little, or a lot, stress eating. That did stop and I have lost about 10-12 lbs now. First time I ever did that during or around the holidays! I think anyone that is considering this surgery needs to carefully think of how this will change the way they live their day to day lives. I know that socializing will have to change for us. We will have to enjoy the people we are with and think of other places and ways to socialize. I also believe that some of the people in our lives may or may not be as easy to relate to as they were before surgery. If you always socialized over ribs and beer then something will have to change! I would make a list of the pros and cons and see which one come out greater. I personally am now 356 lbs and I know I didn't get that way because I like to eat. My triggers (emotion, depression, celebration, sadness, habit..and the list goes on and on...) will be there after surgery and I will need to deal with them and yeah, I'm freaking scared about that too! This is the last stop. I cannot fail at this because there really isn't much left to try after having 80% of your stomach removed is there? I think it is important to have support during this time. I would see a social worker if I were you. I see one and she is wonderful. If helps to talk about things with an impartial party. Maybe you can think of other ways to socialize and try them preop. Go walking, to the gym, to the show with healthy smuggled Snacks (cheaper too!lol), pick up a sport you like, ride horses, shop or take up extreme couponing, sky dive and skinny dip (okay now I'm just being ridiculous but you know what I mean!). Absolutely the life we once lived (or for us preops are living now) is going to drastically change. For me it is worth it to be here for my kids, get back on that horse and feel like I am handling my issues and growing personally instead of adding girth. But those are my reasons. What are yours?
  18. Hello Island Son! I am 40 and also preop. I will get my surgical date on Friday. As it gets closer I am also getting more nervous but still way excited. I have started doing as recommended above. trying new Protein supplements (some are way gross) and using www.myfitnesspal.com to count my food and stay on track. It's great! It's free too. Best of luck to you and here's to a great and healthy 2013 for us both! Dee

What do I tell my clients?

I am pretty sure that I will be an open book about this surgery. I am preop and will have my date soon. First, I am very bad at keeping things to myself that are important to me. I want to talk about them! Second, I feel like if I had known someone that had this surgery I would have loved to learn about it and become more educated. Maybe I would have taken this path sooner. I try not to hate the person I am now, even though I don't feel like my outside matches my inside, I know I am a worthwhile and special person in my own right. We should not be ashamed of our weight issues. Everyone has a path to travel and this one is ours. We are here for a limited time on Earth and personally I would rather not hide anymore. I guess when people learn about my surgery and lifestyle changes they can decide to support and Celebrate or not be a part of my journey. Either way, I want to help others like me. People that lost themselves for awhile. People who struggle and knock into walls before they learn the right path to take. But then, isn't that just all of us? Maybe everyone in our lives don't struggle with weight by they do struggle. They have their own battles and maybe our effort will help them somehow too. We are not all so different that we cannot learn from each other, right? Maybe by being open we will help others that take our path in the future.

  22. Thank you so much for posting this. I'm preop and I know it will be a long time before I can eat this but I love cereal for breakfast and I was not excited about not having it post op.
