  6. Hello! I am new to the forum. I had my surgery on Wed 9/12/12. It went well - only took about 40 minutes! My starting weight was 265 lbs, surgery day it was 253, and yesterday it was 251. Up until today I haven't felt too great. I suppose that is to be expected, but I was hopeful that I would be one who would sail right through it. I have 5 incisions but only one, the "big" one hurts. Its better today, but getting up from laying down is still very hard. I've been kind of woozy, but that seems to be easing up a bit. And my stomach gurgles all the time!! I think that is driving me the craziest! I am taking prevacid so hopefully that will get it under control soon. TUMS seem to help as well. Today I'm up and around a lot more which is good. I am finding it hard to get the protein, water and calories in right now though! I am averaging 2 protein shakes a day, maybe 24 oz of water or other liquid, and 1/4-1/2 cup of strained soup or yogurt, applesauce. I'll be so happy when I can something like cottage cheese! Any suggestions for the gurgles?

    Five Weeks Out... Slow Loss?

I know it seems slow but I think its right on target. I lost 12 lbs on the pre surgery diet. I'm 10 days post op and have lost another 5 lbs. For me, I used an online website to figure how many calories I need to maintain my current weight (2600!). So for right now, if I'm getting about 600 cal. a day, I'm using about 2000 cal a day. That x's 7 days is 14000. Divide that by a pound of calories (3500) that's 4 lbs a week. I'm pretty sure my math is on target! Anyway, I think anywhere from 3 - 5 lbs a week for a while is what any of us can expect. Just think by Christmas we could be down 30-40 more lbs! Hang in there - you can't help but lose weight now!

    Scared And Confused

I have felt the same way too! Its hard to be excited and happy about anything when you're not feeling well. I am only 4 days post op and I have found that most fluids go right through and I don't feel full. I did make the mistake of drinking too much of my protein shake on day 2 and got sick and had to go to bed! Nothing makes me feel full yet, but I'm sure once I start to introduce solids I feel it. Try to measure your liquids and your other liquid foods so you don't take in too much at once. Small sips of liquid, small bites of food. Hang in there. In a few weeks you'll feel good again!
  10. Thanks for the reminders and tips! I know I am being rather impatient and unrealistic. I am just ready to feel back to normal already! Anyway, glad to be part of this group - very helpful.
