Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!
Ainsleet replied to timetobefree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
IT seems like everyone is getting scared to some degree. Whether it is the surgery or the recovery or the fear of the unknown after life. Funny how we keep making puns about death here. Buck-eye referred to a food funeral. I liked that one. I am afraid, I will get sick before surgery and it will have to be postponed. I was going to go do something for a friends daughter who was in the ER last night and I was going to wear a mask! You are not alone. Keep posting. -

How Think Can Our Week 1 Protein Be?
Ainsleet replied to smithpy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I looked up more details. Non fat milk has 12 g carbs and you are supposed to keep carbs to under 40 grams a day for the first 2 weeks. So keep that in mind with the milk. You will get through this. Keep up the good work. -

How Think Can Our Week 1 Protein Be?
Ainsleet replied to smithpy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My program said the first 14 days must be thin enough to pass through a straw. But, Not to use a straw because it causes gas. -
No experience yet. My Doctor says at least one night, depending oh how well you are doing with the walking and the pain, etc. He also said 2 weeks to get back to work. I have a very physical job, so I am taking 4 weeks off. But, I can. You have to do, what you have to do. As long as work will be accepting of drinking every 10 minutes, and I am guessing going to the bathroom regularly?? Good luck, Do everything the nurses and Doctor tell you to do and you should be fine. One thing my Doctor stressed was staying hydrated!!! Be careful at work not to lift more than 10 pounds the first 2 weeks. Best wishes to you. Let us know how it goes. Ainslee Ainslee

Welcome Kathy, I think we have a couple of people from OHIO here. Your date will be here before you know it? Are you ready already? I just ordered some samples of Unjury and a few other things. It is taking 9 days to receive the shipment, so plan ahead. All my best, Ainslee -

I thought I would share what my info says: Days 1-14 -32-60 oz of fluids per day (taken in a one oz shot glass or pill cup)every 10 minutes for 10 hours a day. DO NOT fall behind on fluid intake. -Thin fluids only (should fit through a straw, but DO NOT use a straw) broth, sugar free pops and jello. -400-600 calories per day. -50-70 grams protein -minimal carbs (max. 40 g per day) Any protein drink you consume should have less than 7g of carbs per serving. If you don't have enough carbs, you may get dizzy -Fats-from day 1 forward you should have 25-50 grams per day, thereby minimizing diarrhea, gas and bloating -walk 5-10 minutes every hour -Wake and walk after 8 hours Do not lift anything over 10 pounds My material says 600 calories until you are at goal I read somewhere about Isopure Protein drink because it is thin. Isopure Plus Zero carbs-15g of protein Natures Best Isopure Zero- 40g of protein These are available at many places but check out "My Bariatric Pantry" -

So I am researching protein drinks and here is what I found if anyone has anything to add, jump in. I found that a person needs a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio of protein to carbs, more specifically, fibers. I first looked up Unjury products. Unjury teraswhey vega one TJ's protein can Protein 21g 20 15 21 Carbs 0 5g (1 fiber) 12 (6 fiber) 4-5 (2 fiber Sugar 0 3g 2 1-2g sodium 55 mg 25 mg 140mg 150mg vit. & min. very few very few quite a few very few That all said. Most of the others I researched had fewer protein, more carbs. but less fiber and the sodium averaged around 150-160 mg. TJ's and Unjury were the least expensive per serving. If sodium not important to you TJ's might be convenient once you start going out to work. I hope my little chart transfers legibly. Otherwise, I apologize and I will make a spreadsheet and attach it. -

Hi Debbie, Welcome. You have done very well to lose 55 pounds. I suppose we will all be faced with stress eating in the future and maybe it would help to start visualizing how good you are going to feel and look after the sleeve. You ate while your husband was in the hospital. So be it. No you know what they say "if you fall off the wagon, get back on and ride". easy to say. Good luck. Sending love. -

I am told by a couple of people at my support group, not to buy any clothes. You won't have time to wear them before you need another size smaller. Maybe you could bring couple of pieces in a size 14, but don't buy much. -

I have to loose 10 more pounds before my surgery. But, I am thinking about doing a green liquid fast. Because, I want to save the thicker stuff for after surgery. the Doctor doesn't care how I loose the 10 only that I do. -

Christina, I am also 61. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings. I was so moved that I read them to a small group of work friends. Which led to a very nice discussion about weight. One woman said she always thought heavy people felt the same as thinner people. The fact that you walk into a room and "size up the crowd" was a learning experience. Then I shared my thoughts too. Like tonight on the bus on the way home from work. The only seat left was one in the middle of 2 fat people. So I stood up. I was tired. I had worked on my feet for 5 hours. Last week, I was sitting in one of those 3 person seats and 2 heavy people squeezed in all I could imagine, was how funny we must have looked and maybe the bus would tip over, haha. I also can't wait to want to be in a picture again. I had some friends come to visit and they took pics and they posted them on FB. I nearly died. I was outed to all the people who had only known me as thin. Terrible. Well, all of that will soon be over. I wish we were closer in surgery dates. Anyone else, the last week of November? -
