Congratulations!!! The pain will be under control and so will your weight! Yeah. You go girl. Ainslee -
I am having surgery on Dec. 6th in San Francisco. I have been in the November group as I was supposed to have surgery today but my doctor asked me to postpone because he wants to use me for his teaching video he is doing because I have a hiatal hernia. It's better for my schedule anyway.

I don't have a blender and I am wondering how important it might be to get one sooner than later? Any tips? Also, if you have one you love, let me know what you have. thanks Ainslee -

Go Freja. You can do it!!!! -
OH No. I am soooooooooo sorry. Here is my suggestion. It is off the cuff so bear with me. Stay with us. Ask the Doctor if you can have the surgery sooner if you lose the weight sooner. Just keep the faith and pretend you are on your pre-op diet. Drink lots of protein drinks, (you will be the resident protein expert). Drink green Juice. Odwalla makes a great one and they sell it at Costco.. And have one meal at luch or late afternoon. Start trying recipes for post op. Egg frittata, with Bacon? No carbs or fatty dairy. Easy for me to say. But, you are with us and we want you to succeed. I have never heard that they have to take your gall bladder out? What is that about? How about a second opinion? Where do you live? Call me anytime, if you want to talk. Enjoy tomorrow's Thanksgiving meal and that is it.The race is on.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ainslee 425-307-3881

Tina, thank you so much for your response, kind and loving words. I think I needed to be confident that I have support of someone who understands and I feel sort of knows me. You are right. It may be God supporting what will be best for me. I have been working on this for 2 years, what is 10 more days? Thanks for taking the time. Ainslee

Hi All, I started this sub-group of AfterThanksgiving sleevers as a Yahoo group. I am not sure how to get this and that group together other than having you accept an invitation to join the Yahoo group. I sent invitations to most of you (I think) But, that said. I have had a personal conundrum. I went for my pre-op on Firday and found out I have a Hiatal Hernia. My Doctor asked me if I would consider have my surgery on Dec. 6 so I could be the "perfect patient for his training video" That will be used world wide. He needs a sleeve patient who has a hernia and most patients do not know ahead of time. I want to do it. But, I am afraid I am thinking about it because I want to put it off for some reason. Or many reasons. I also am thinking that I will be pretty much guaranteed that the surgery will be done perfectly because it will be used for training. But, I already know he is one of the best on the world. I am also thinking to do it for work and privacy. If I go on a leave of absence while there is still available work, people will talk. usually I wouldn't care but I do not want people to know. especially this one negative friend I have who tries to control my life and doesn't want me to get the surgery, so she doesn't know I am going to have it. So I don't know what to do. I am struggleing with this and would love some feedback. thanks Ainslee

I don't know what you are drinking but I met with my NUT on Friday and she said to drink pre-made drinks form Trader Joes or Costco because they are so high in protein that you only need to drink 2 per day to get your minimum. Ainslee -

I was told not to eat beans because of the carbs. But, since you are doing so well on your weight loss, maybe it is not a big concern. Congratulations, BTW. Ainslee -

Oh man. So sorry about what you are dealing with. All the exciting build up and then arrgh. It has only been a day so it islikely things will go well but the shape doesn't sound good. It would be better to have it fixed right away than go home and have to go back. Will you stay a couple extra days to be sure? Paryers and love to you. -
Recommended book list. Given to the 2 women at my support group yesterday, by their outside NUTS. Highly recommended to read before surgery: Mindless Eating by Brian Wansink General anytime reading: Mindful Eating by Thich Nhat Hanh (written more from a psychological view) Savor, Mindful Eating Mindful Life, also by Hanh (very Buddist in nature) Joining The Thin Club by Judith Lederman After surgery: Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery by Cynthia Alexander Successful Habits of Successful Weight Loss Patients by Coleen Cook

someone in my support group had post op gall bladder pain and the doc said it was from too much fat. She went back on the strict diet again, until she was better. And closely monitors her fats. I would guess it is the same with sugars. Good luck,

LONG..........I went to a local support group yesterday and only 3 of us showed up. One woman was 1 year out and had lost 130#. The other 5 1/2 months out and had lost 65 #. and me. Wow what a lovely place to be. if I write everything this will be too long. I will add more later, like the books they suggested for before and after surgery. It was all very spontaneous. They walked through the entire surgery, from the minute I show up in the hospital until I get out. (both had the same hospital as me). One woman had been in the hospital many times so she walked from anesthesia to the OR and they walked her around and showed her the equipment. The other had never had surgery and she told the anesthesiologist that she wanted to be OUT instantly. The EP (expert patient) had many surgeries and 1 year post-op had no throwing up, or reactions to food, ever. She said she loved spicy food but can't eat it now. She eats pretty much a bland diet. She suggested going to your local Chinese rest. or soup place and ask for Chicken noodle soup and hold the noodles. If you can only access canned soup, add chicken and fresh (or frozen) vegetables and don't eat the noodles. They both said not to worry about failure because you WILL NOT be hungry. The EP hated protein drinks and the other lived/loved them. Eat your protein first no matter what. Buy yourself a special, 6" plate. And a special small bowl. SMALL. She said Martha Stewart has a nice one with measurements on the inside. When she is alone, she eats out of the bowl. With people she flips it onto a plate. Once you make a plate of 2 oz of protein and vegetables, take pictures of them and post them around the kitchen so you train your brain to see small. They both eat Greek yogurt. one liked it pre-op the other hated it. They suggested adding a bit of honey and any berries. Also, to take an oatmeal protein bar, with any berries (and nuts) and crush it up well and add it to the yogurt. They both said if they didn't exercise they lost one pound LESS per week. I asked about self-esteem. They both said not to worry. You will naturally acquire so much self-esteem. The EP has a high power job with all men. She said she is treated with so much more respect than before op. The expert had her surgery on Tuesday and was back to work on Monday. I have to go walk my neighbors dog (thereby walking me). I will write more about the suggested reading list later. Hope this is helpful. It sure was to me!!!!!!! -
