  2. Heller used to work at my hospital (here in houston)- he does very good breast work and TT I'm trying to find names of PS as well - I'm going to need mostly body work when I get to goal. I'll ask some of the PS here who they'd go to (I work at MD Anderson)

    Why Aren't You Losing Weight?

    wow- that's a bit different than what I was given (surgery with spivak in May) Definitely they advocate no snacks and on the whole I do that- I'm really tight in the morning but by afternoon I feel looser so I usually will have an apple or some yogurt; My sheet wants Protein first; 3 meals a day and the exercise is key.
  4. I agree with wasa, chicke and jachut - exercise, exercise and more exercise! Also, I keep 'problem' foods out of my house (chips primarily)

    Binge Eating?!

    Once the band is in place and you have restriction it is thankfully much harder to binge. One of my recent binges (and they are thankfully rare) included a small french fry and 1 chicken strip. I couldn't eat anything more than that hang in there- what works best for me (I used to be a binger 4-5 x a week and now maybe 1x try every month) is to get out of the house when the urge hits. I go for a walk. By the time I come back, that urge is pretty much gone and some calories have been burnt to boot

    Bodybugg users report here!

    that's the best part for me- I went on an extra long walk with the dogs last night to make certain I'd hit my goal deficit. Need one of those wristband monitors so I can up the activity during the work day also yea bodybugg pepole!

    Couch to 5K - Week of 14 ? 20 October

    I'm so impressed that yall are doing this! I tried to start and did the first minute jog and thought my lungs were going to explode! think I need more eliptical and weight loss before I try this again good luck all!

    % protein,carbs and fat

    Its challenging to do less than 20% of your daily calories from fat. Many would suggest that is the healthiest approach however (data regarding breast cancer - reducing risk of cancer recurrence for pts with a low fat diet; closer to ideal body weight)

    it appears i've lost my motivation ...

    losing- congrats on getting your fill and for having the courage to post that you are stuck (not in a band kind of way) What we are all doing is hard work- it really is and it's fatiguing to work that hard all the time. I'm beginning to feel these things too- the weight loss is slowing down and it sucks. Hang in there- people have given you great advice- when you are ready to get back at it you will and likely won't have slid far from where you are now

    People can be so mean!

    people suck in so many ways and for people who have no issues with their weight, targeting those who do is easy and unfortunately, socially acceptable. I haven't encountered that since I've been banded (the teasing) but I'm certain someone will say something snarky to me some day. The world is full of idiots. You can't control what they say, just how you react. Hopefully, like Julie, I'll just be able to laugh

    Weight Watchers

    my doc recommends WW for people who are banded but are still having problems losing weight. I think the advantage is that you have more structured guidelines regarding intake (calories) and weekly weigh ins can help some to keep on track. Other people can do more on their own (fitday.com; sparkpeople etc) with logging food and counting calories burned/eaten. they all are good in that the band alone isn't enough- you still have to watch what you are putting in your mouth good luck!

    completly discouraged

    hang in there! it takes time to find the right level of restriction so you get that signal to stop! Sounds like you need another fill if you can eat without any limit. The fact you aren't gaining is a GREAT thing! Think where you'd might be otherwise without all this effort. Get back to your doc's office and talk to them. Try logging your calories (every single thing that goes in your mouth- mints, gum, in addition to food) and see if you are really where you think you are intake wise- consider weighing your food also. I thought 4 oz was a lot more than it really is! You can do it!

    I agree with you again, Jacqui- and that's why it amazes me when doctors advise diets that contain only 40 grams of protein a day! (mine did). Anything you can do to minimize muscle loss is key to helping maintain/boost your BMR which in turn will help with fat burn

    I'm between 5'8'' - 5'9'' and at my lowest adult weight (170) I still felt like I had a good 20 lbs to lose. I agree with Jacqui's post. Ultimately, you have to be happy where you are- for some people starting way over 300 lbs- that would be a great result. Maybe give yourself some time where you are and then see if you might like to be a bit smaller? good luck!

    I am enamored with my bugg. and boy does this thing work- as long as I'm keeping my deficit where I have planned- I'm losing weight each week. Much more reliable way to calculate than by guessing at how much I burned each day

    Elliptical Anyone??

    I agree with Bert that running/jogging and stairs are the biggest workouts but I love the eliptical- I think you can get a great workout with that machine- its easy on the joints and you can get your cardio/pulmonary status in great shape with weight loss before you try anything else. I definitely burn more calories on the eliptical (per my body bugg) than I do walking - its hard for me to get my speed up walking before something hurts. The machine is great congrats on your new machine and hang in there! Like everyone said - take it with baby steps and you will soon be 40+ minutes without huffing like the big bad wolf!
  22. I am very fortunate to have (on the whole) a very close and supportive immediate family. They all know about my surgery. My parents, younger brother and his wife are all very enthusiastic, are complimentary regarding all the weight I've lost and really are happy to listen to any aspect of the changes I've made in my life. None of them struggle with their weight (except my mom) and they ask me for updates on a regular basis. My older brother however and his wife are a different story. I see them 3-4 times a month and even though I've lost over 100 lbs since I first started actively trying to lose weight (70 since May) - they haven't said one positive thing. No congrats, you look great, etc. My older brother has a weight problem - he's morbidly obese; my sister -in- law is not. She runs 4-5 days a week. Their lack of reaction really hurts my feelings. If anyone in my family did something positive for themselves, even if it was something that I hadn't accomplished, I'd be thrilled for them. Is it wrong for me to be upset that they aren't saying anything? Some people don't comment on weight because its such a sensitive subject however they've had no problems commenting on my appearance before (haircuts, clothing etc). Should I say something about how they've hurt my feelings about being so non-committal? Maybe my sister in law is trying not to say anything because my brother is stuck with his weight and isn't ready (for whatever reason) to change. Suggestions??
