2 Week Diet Question Help!
TheNEWME! replied to betty_luna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said for my pre-op diet to drink a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, then I can have a lean protein (chicken, fish, etc.) with a salad for dinner and then a protein shake at night if I need it. I am definitely EATING my dinner. -
I'm on day 2 of Pre-OP diet, and not sure if it's my head or my stomach that's hungry. Only 6 more days of this, then surgery time. I CAN DO IT!!!!!

TheNEWME! replied to Tstorm1070's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi!!! I am only actually about 2 weeks away from my surgery date of Oct. 30th! I'm going to Tijuana, MX and having the surgery done by Dr. Garcia. My health insurance won't pay for WLS, so I am choosing to pay for it myself. I'm very excited and nervous. I start my 7 day pre-op diet the 21st, so that's when I believe it will really get real. We should definitely keep in touch!! -

Blab To Everyone, Or "close To The Vest?"
TheNEWME! replied to ArcusX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it's been hit or miss on who I tell. It's not that I'm ashamed of what I am going to do. It's more the reaction of what I'm going to when I tell people that maybe keeps me from telling certain people. Of course, my family was first to know. My husband is my best friend, and his opinion and support means everything to me. Next was telling my parents and children. Which they too were very supportive. Of course I heard the comments "can't you do this without surgery?" And my reaction is "I haven't been able to thus far and until you lived in my shoes and deal with all the emotions I deal with daily, you'll probably NEVER truly understand". Usually, that puts it into perspective for them. I have told some VERY close friends and they've all been very supportive. I've even learned of many other people in friends families that have had similar WLS and to hear their success with it was very comforting. Had I not told those people I would have never known their similar "family/friends" stories. However, there are certainly people I chose not to tell and won't tell unless asked. If I'm asked "how did you lose it?" I'll simply be honest: DEDICATION and HARD WORK! I am all about paying it forward and helping others. If my story can help someone else, than that's WONDERFUL! It's our life, and we are chosing to make it a better one. -
Have you ever tried the nectar Protein drinks? I'm still in the pre-op stage and am trying to prepare myself for a life of protein drinks to help get in the required daily amount... and so far the Nectar protein drinks are pretty tolerable and good. Do you know if this form of a Protein Drink is acceptable long term or is a more "shake" type protein drink with milk more preferred??

The Only Protein Drink I Can Tolerate
TheNEWME! replied to SoonToBeThinKAT's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am still a few week outs from my surgery date, but in preperation of post-op I've been ordering and trying different types of Protein supplements and Vitamin chewables to see what I'm liking. So far, I've ordered the Syntax nectar sample pack and I have to say I'm quite liking the flavors so far. I've tried the Lemonade, Strawberry-Kiwi (not really a fave but drinkable) and the Lemon Tea. So this makes me hopeful that I'll be okay getting in my protein since this stuff is just like a "juice" type consistancy. I've also ordered the unjury sample pack and it just arrived yesterday. I haven't tried anything yet, but I'm thinking the Soup pack will be a nice addition to the clear Proteins as it will add something warm. I also ordered the Celebrations Bariatric Vitamins sample pack, and so far the Multi-Complete Forest Berry & Orange flavors are pretty good. The Iron+C 60mg in Berry is really good too. The B-12 sublingual in Cherry is decent. I also tried the Calcet Creamy Bite in Lemon Cream and that was pretty YUMMY! The Calcium PLUS 500 in Cherry Tart is pretty good too! I've heard that after the surgery, that sometimes our taste buds change. So all this testing and samping was maybe for nothing... but at least I kind of know where to start with my Post-Op supplements. -
Great post!!! I did not realize our coordinator would/could do all those things... I definitely wouldn't mind doing a little shopping and experiencing Tijuana when there. May I ask where you went?

Just thought I'd share... and see what everyone thinks. I finished the book "Successful Weight Loss with The Gastric Sleeve" by Dr. Alvarez http://www.thegastricsleeve.com/ and thought I'd share some "tips".... Post-Op Do NOT drink out of a straw (puts too much air in your stomach) For the first couple of days or first 2 weeks drink (sip) from a sports bottle cap every 2-3 minutes to keep properly hydrated and get in all the protein needed. (Holy cow... ) I will post more, I was trying to do this by memory but now I need to get the book and cite it correctly.... stay tuned!!!! -
