When Did Your Doctor Say You Could..... And When Did You?
AprilDM replied to Pinky Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to have caffeine at all as it can slow your weight loss (that's all it took for me to give it up completely). I started walking in the hospital and regular exercise after 8 week check-up. The other questions don't apply because I do not drink or smoke. My advice is to adhere to the guidelines your NUT and Doc give you so that you can reach your goal quicker. Don't look for reasons to break the rules. I've seen people not follow the guidelines post-op and I've seen "slow" weight loss as a result. I've even seen weight gain in those that went back to old habits. We all loose quickly at first, you have to work it to keep it going. The sleeve is merely a tool to make it easier for you Think back to the motivation you had when you went into this and don't loose sight of your goals because you are focused on getting back to "normal" your "normal" is what got you here to begin with. -
I'm 8 weeks out and am taking in 700-900 calories a day. Is that too much? 400 of that is from the 2 protein bars I have everyday. Maybe I should limit the protein bars to one daily, thoughts?

Has anyone done the Vi shakes post op? I was considering it, not before I consult my doc first though. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it. I want to do it because I would be getting the nutrition that i need. It would be great for me with the busy lifestyle I have.
-
It would be hard to hit the 60 grams of Protein but in the research I've done on protein we are only using a fraction of what we eat. The Vi shakes have all usable protein. I don't know if will do it because it is kind of pricy but I was looking for an option to make it easier to get the nutrition that I need. I never have room for anything but protein. I'll keep you informed after I consult my nut and if I decide to do it. The shakes are delicious! Also, it has a lot of Fiber which is something I really need. I suffer from constipation so bad since I've had surgery - and I had IBS.

August Sleevers..what Is The Progress
AprilDM replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in Food and Nutrition
I was sleeved on Aug 29th and have lost 46 lbs. I eat mostly chicken, Tuna and Flounder. I snack on light Greek yogurt, reduced fat string cheese and low fat cottage cheese. I really don't have room to add fresh veggies and fruits or I will not meet my Protein goals. I also have an Atkins Protein Bar for Breakfast. I've started bike riding but it is getting to cold for that, boo- Hoo! I also work out on the elliptical 20 minutes 3 times a week and do weight training 3 times a week. I still struggle getting my Water in. I was 287 when I was sleeved and I'm down to 241! -
September Sleevers Progress!
AprilDM replied to PiggyPantsPaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a working Mom with an hour commute (1 way) to work. It is hard for me to get in several small meals a day. I rely on reduced fat string cheese, tuna (everyday) for lunch, I get the serving size package. You can get the flavored tuna so no need for mayo or anything like that. I eat a lot of rotisserie chicken, it is soft and easy to eat, low-fat cottage cheese, light Greek yogurt, and a great snack is beef Jerky -high in Protein. I've recently tried adding fresh fruits and veggies to my diet but I usually don't eat it because I'm so focused on saving room for protein. -

September Sleevers Progress!
AprilDM replied to PiggyPantsPaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was Aug 29th so I am 8 weeks out today and 45lbs down! -
My plan was different. I spent 2 weeks at each stage and didn't began regular foods until week 8.
-
I have struggled with water intake as many people do. I've found that flavoring the water helps me get it down (I hated flavored water pre-op). I am 8 weeks post op and I'm worried that I'm drinking too fast. I can take about 3 pretty good gulps at once and it goes down fine and no pain. Could I be doing damage by not taking small sips? The reason I've been drinking faster is that I take in less air that way.
-
I hope so. I had so much trouble drinking at first, if you take in the least bit air it hurts so bad. I was just afraid I may be stretching my sleeve. I would think that I would feel discomfort if I was taking In too much. Thanks!
