    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

I had 85% of my pancreas removed in 1990 and became a diabetic. 5 years ago what I had left stopped working and I became a type 1 with resistance. My insulin is a U500, not a U 100. I was getting a massive amount of insulin and still running in the 350 to 450's. They tried putting me on Lantus after surgery but my sugars still were high, back on pump I have more control. Still on the U500 till Monday when I see my endo. But on a fraction of what I was taking. Lost 73 lbs so far, 7 weeks out. It is harder to lose with insulin, hoping I can go a lot lower.

    Insulin Pumpers having VSG?

I used the sleeve surgery because the band is dangerous and the bypass has dumping and as a type 1, if you get a low the dumping prevents you from eating sugar to bring it back up.

    Please be honest

Some suggestions: I wore a belly band to help keep it all from jiggling around. I also had a pain ball, not sure of the technical name it is placed in your surgery site and deadens that area for a couple days. Purchase some gas x strips if you need it during recovery. The belly or compression band is like what pregnant women wear to support there tummys. The hospital supplied mine, I wouldn't move with out it. The drain can be a annoyance but I had an infection and wouldn't of caught it in time without it. It's all survivable you May not think so in the beginning but it will get better.

4 weeks post op and depressed.

I don't understand how he could say the first month counts, it takes at least 8 weeks for our sleeve to completely heal. I'm at 7 weeks and still have some swelling. Your body is still in shock to what it's going through. 20 lbs is a great job, you need a pat on the back not a kick in the pants. Keep up the good work!

    I ate way to fast!

I changed my eggs to soft boiled for that reason. It will pass but no fun.

    Am I The Only One?

Well I made it to 7 weeks post op, the surgery was ok but got an infection and that made my recovery slow. Now I feel pretty good, lost 33 lbs post op, 73 lbs total. Learning what works for me and what doesn't has been a challenge but I'm getting better at this. I will be so glad when spring gets here too, need to move Unfortunately, sugars have not gotten better. This was so disappointing, see my endo Monday to get a plan of action. Was hoping to not have to get a pancreas bypass, still praying it all works out. No more surgeries would be nice. May God bless you all!
  11. Sleeved on Jan 22nd, lost 33lbs post op, 73 lbs total. Only hungry if I'm bored. Starting to finally feel alive again, see surgeon next week and will get cleared to return to Curves. Too cold to walk so need curves to get moving again. Keep taking in my cloths and buying new. Went from size 20 to a 12-14. Still have around 50 lbs to go.

    I hate to admit it

At this point fluids are the most important, if your not getting your fluids you'll get sicker. I had to go get re hydrated in the beginning. It will make you feel so much better. As for the low sugars, I used the sugar tabs and watched my sugars a lot closer. Room temp powerade watered down worked great. Tummy didn't like cold stuff, now I'm good with it all. Trust in The Lord!

    Indiana Sleevers

I'm from a small town called DeMotte, in. Was sleeved on Jan 22 and am finally feeling alive again. Now everyone's surgery goes textbook. Had my surgery done by IU bariatric, IU North was the hospital, Dr. Selzer was my surgeon. The surgery and hospital were great, the infection 3 days later was a bummer. They did take good care of me though.

    Almost 6 week update

Thought I was at 7 weeks but I had a blonde moment. Lol Well I am feeling a lot better, once I hit 5 weeks I started to feel alive again. I still get really tired but it could be from lack of food. Trying really hard to get calories, protein and fluids in. Haven't been able to tolerate multi vitamin or B complex but Nut told me its ok to drink some milk to get multi down. Chewable's or Gummies still make me sick so milk is the only option. So glad CVS will take back the b complex I bought. She told me to try thiamin instead 50 mg it's the b i need anyway. Hope it works. Still want to eat too fast, not happy they only want us to eat 3 meals a day. Just have to do what my body requires. Was hoping diabetes would be a lot better but had to go back on my insulin pump for better control. Lost 65lbs and was hoping that would help. I'm not one of the ones that got better control. Maybe a couple more pounds will help. All for now, I'm tired.

    Emotional roller coaster

Making my poor husband crazy, I hurt, I keep crying, and I'm wondering if I did the right thing. Back on clear liquids and ice chips. Maybe I'm just too old to be messing with my body like this. I'm sorry friends, I'm just being a big baby. And I have a jinormous headache.

    not enough protein..

I have trouble with shakes and drinks, so I work on milk, cheese, tuna, etc... To get my protein in. Just had to find another way, milk counts as a liquid so I enjoy a cup of milk. It all adds up and I was having trouble getting enough calories and this helped.

    Procedure choice

Actually my surgeon picked it, he said because I'm a type 1 diabetic, dumping would be a problem.

    Day4... Dehydration?

I had to go to hospital to get rehydrated, it took 3 hours and 2 bags to do the trick. I sure felt better though. First I tried just ice water, made me sicker, then after rehydrating I started drinking poweraide zero watered down, room temp. That helped a lot. Now I can tolerate ice again and am doing much better. 7 weeks out.
