My bad. They didn't pay for my hotel in San Diego' date=' though I see why you read it that way. I just went down a day before Ernesto's pick-up because I didn't like my flight options Monday morning.I booked directly with Nina. I don't think I ever called, I did everything via email. I emailed from his website, which I believe is www.mexicalibariatric.com .
I think he does charge more for a high BMI. I think there was an extra 500 charge but is have to look at my paperwork. I was a 50.1 BMI when I first inquired but lost 35 pounds before surgery.[/quote']
I had a high bmi with no extra charge. I think. I financed it so my overall expense is more.

That's what I thought... I am trying not to regret this but my tummy hurts super bad. Think I'm gonna lay off much of anything but sips of Water and maybe sf Popsicles until it feels better.Have you tried unjury chicken broth? It went down okay for me. Tasted fine, even tho I made it extra thin using more Water. The warmth was nice too.

To whom it may concern:
Surgery is scary. Leaving the country can be scary. Leaving the country to have surgery?Terrifying.
Coordinators:
We don't need bogus reviews, paid reviews, vague reports of tragedy, and referral kickbacks out there amongst us muddying the waters. We need you to answer our questions... Honestly. We need you to hold our hands in spirit and in person whenever possible. We need you to represent your company and the surgeons who contract through said company with integrity and dignity. If you struggle defining those words or relating to them I suggest a career change.
Medical Tourists:
We need some solidarity. We are all, or have been, in the same boat. For whatever reason surgery at home isn't happening. We've made the bold decision to reclaim control over our obesity and we've kicked it up a notch.
All VST members:
We come from all walks of life. Various roads and life experiences have brought us all to this point. WLS. Many of us, if not all if us, have been criticized or teased regarding our weight issues. Many have felt "less than" because we are "more than". Why on earth are we attacking each other? What are we gaining from it?
Take a long look in the mirror. Tell yourself you are going to try and be the best *you* that you can be. And then... Live it. Own it.

If anyone had surgery with Dr. Aceves you can call/email Gaby or Nina and they will send you a letter for the surgery. At least that was done for me a couple of years ago.
I did and they did. :-)

I read that if you get audited' date=' you also have to show proof of medical necessity. I calculated it in last year and it didn't change anything so I didn't risk it.[/quote']I'm hoping it will offset the taxing from taking $$ from my 401K.

And Omar is absolutely wonderful! Express your concerns to him and they will do whatever to make you and your Dad feel more at ease. I've pestered Omar to death with all of my anxiety and worries... LolOmar is wonderful.
I ended up going with Dr. Aceves but Omar and I still keep in touch via email checking on each other's progress.
Perhaps your dad can talk to Omar as well as Dr. Illan.

C'mon. A life was lost. We have an OP with dubious motives. Let's just let it be. What on earth is being accomplished?!?!
-
Am I the only one in this thread concerned about these other deaths that the OP has mentioned? MULTIPLE DEATHS???? This has already been stated as fact by the OP and one other poster in this thread has repeated it as FACT.. and yet it is unsubstantiated. I think all potential patients deserve to know the exact details....and no I'm not talking about personal details that would invade the privacy of families, but simply when the deaths occurred, the hospital where they occurred, the name of the doctor and the cause of death. You have repeatedly asked for more info from the OP. Your requests don't appear to have even been acknowledged.
How do you differentiate between real and those who create discord?
This thread is draining and a bit alarming. Frustrating.

I'm a glass into some 7 Deadly Zins.. affordable deliciousness. I love moscato too.. wine that tastes like dessert... my two favorite things all rolled into one!
Oooooh I love 7 Deadly Zins but that stuff kicked my butt preop!!!!
-
Oh' date=' that reminds me...I have some lovely moscato in the fridge....I'l willing to share! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I miss Moscato D'Asti but I fear carbonation discomfort. I'd hate to end up wasting a bottle.
-
I think I'm already 20 minutes into mine... got a beautiful bottle of wine here and y'all are welcome to join me... and since we're all sleeved the wine will go out twice as far!I've got a bottle of red that's ready for me to add some frozen strawberries and practice the fine art of sipping. Sipping is highly recommended postop...

I am going to be on my way to Mexicali' date=' and surgery with Dr. Aceves. That being said, I read part of whatever little dust-up happened over someone coming home un-sleeved. From what I read, this was her own choice. My choice is to go forward with my trip and I will ask about his complications. There are thousands of threads on these forums and I know (even though I may not have much of a life)that I have not had time to go through all the complications, just as some people do not share their "easy" outcomes - so that others don't get the wrong idea. Could it just be possible that all the people who had complications did not post their outcomes??[/quote']
Good luck to you!! :-)

Fabulous!!!! ♥
Thanx. I just emailed Gaby a lengthy update.
Do you think you will still get sleeve at all?
In Mexico?

I am inspired to be more proactive in reaching out to Dr. Aceves and his team to keep them updated on my progress. I've been a bit remiss.

Listen guys' date=' do I dislike MBC? Absolutely. If you feel differently, that's OK, we don't have to agree on this. All I'm saying is be careful. I'm not on here to start a fight with anyone or to get into a debate. I'm saying this information is out there and all you have to do is search around and you will find it. For those that want it, I'm making it easier for you to find it. I wish everyone luck in their surgery no matter where they have it or with whichever surgeon they choose. If anyone has any questions, I would be more happy to answer them or give you my email if you want to talk privately.[/quote']Perhaps if you preface your findings a little differently in the future then your relevant info may be better received?
Also, I'm sure you can appreciate your very open and unrestrained disdain for MBC can make your intended message end up being a bit distorted. I too had come across the webmaster issues that ALM and r4ac were dealing with early in my research. It's a shame.
Especially when there have been cases of coordinators and referral bonus patients posting to their own gain.
I'm really sad to find out someone did pass away.

I just called and it is true. A male patient died over the weekend.I would really urge people to do their own checking when they question something that was posted here' date=' instead of arguing on this site. It took me one call to find out it is true. They said a male patient had surgery and the next morning was up and walking. Soon after he died due to reasons 'not of the doctor's fault'. They claim a blood clot, but at this point are not sure.[/quote']
I'm sorry to hear that.

Everytime a thread has "I heard it from ________..." I instantly think of the REO Speedwagon song Take It on the Run.
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from a friend who
Heard it from another you been messin' around
I sincerely hope this thread is completely bogus as the loss of a life, whether it was a freak accident or negligence, is tragic and should not be used to malign one to the benefit of another. :-(
That said, spreading rumors without backing it up with facts to substantiate it is pretty darn "bogus" in its own right. :-(

Stephanie1678,
I'm glad you're home and I hope you're at peace with your decision as it is not an easy decision to make.
I think you have an opportunity to promote some positive changes in Medical Tourism. At least as far as Dr. Aceves' team goes. If you want to, that is. Maybe you could reach out to Nina regarding the info disconnect and see if she is willing to take whatever steps she can to try and bridge the gap. It may help ensure that another person in the future won't be caught in the same "fight or flight" panic mode.
Just a thought...
stephanie1678 reacted to this -
Stephanie' date=' I think it's good that you made this post on here. People need to read the real truth. Not everyone that goes to Mexico has a happy ending. It's good or people to know that you can do all the research, feel great about their decision, get to Mexico, not feel right and turn around and come home.[/quote']Not everyone who has WLS has a happy ending. Most people, whether in Mx or the USA, go into surgery and come out the on the other side (aka postop) with zero complications. Period. This is the rule, to which there are few exceptions. The exceptions are real and relevant. We should be aware of them. We should use them to make an informed decision.
And then we take our leap of faith, no matter which side of the Border, or we choose not to leap. I believe we have to make the choice for ourselves, by ourselves. Then it is up to use to decide if we made the right call.

Amanda! That's a big wad of hair! I have thick hair too' date=' so maybe it won't be noticeable. That is scary though! :/[/quote']I got a trim today. Added some layers.
I really want to color it but I'm waiting a little longer.

Only on the app. I believe you can control the level of the block. Prevent them from quoting you.

I can't stand this particular person who constantly is posting on here. Like when I see her name I instantly get mad lol. Is there a way to block a user?On the web site, but not the app.
