Mx is not for everyone, but it really is a quality option when you research it well.
-
Mexico seems risky anyone have it done there?I did, this past March.
I researched Mexico for months, flipping and flopping between surgeons until I found Dr. Aceves in Mexicali.
They took excellent care of me. Truly. He is one of the more expensive Mx surgeons. 8750, but your recovery is inpatient for 3-4 days in a full service hospital.
Many surgeons in Mx have you recover in a swanky hotel near the hospital and do the follow up care at the hotel. I wanted, and needed, to be a hospital for my recovery.

You need to try a different mask. That's what I had to do because I can't stand things on my face. Now I sleep with it and I know when I don't use it I really tired the next day. I do hope my sleeve will eventually take care of the aapnea
I've broken up with my cpap and the hubby says my snoring is mostly gone and when it does put in an appearance it's quiet.

we have an old 401k that is sitting there collecting dust. I'm not working so he is head of household we live in Chicago and i think the surgery is a lot more than 7k and for right now it's an option i will explore further but i'm looking at everything right now. unfortunately there is no other insurance at his job. thank you all again i'm taking all this into consideration. like she said if there is a will there is a way <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
I don't know if you are open to Mexico but surgeon costs range from 4k - 10k. All inclusive except airfare.
-
WLS is excluded from my insurance policy. I withdrew $$ from my 401K and went to Mexico on 3/18/13.
So far, so good.
-
I'd call it progress. :-)
Compare your recent decision with past decisions. Be proud and keep "thinking".

I did a sleep study and was told I had sleep apnea. I had to do a second sleep study so they could put a cpap on my and adjust my levels as needed. Then they issued me my cpap.

Good stuff Amanda <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I wondered that since he's in Las Vegas..
Limitless WLS options on both sides of the border! There is also a cost efficient option in Charlotte, NC. Approx 12k I believe. The surgeon was on here tho, peddling his wares once upon a time.

When the time comes' date=' I've heard really good things about Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas. Good luck to you and your research <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

I think he books through BeLiteWeight and they offer in house financing.

Check out BeLiteWeight in Las Vegas. They're about 9-10k. They have surgeons in Mx as well as stateside.
I didn't use them so I cannot speak to their quality of care. I did go to Mx and was very well taken care of. I chose Dr. Aceves. He's one of the more expensive Mx surgeons, 8750. If you do look into Mx and would like some feedback about my Dr. Aceves/Mexicali experience feel free to reach out.
Good luck no matter which direction you go.

Not here a whole lot and not sure what unsupportive activity is referenced' date=' but I have been here long enough to realize that when Amanda posts, I read it, and I always like what she has to say. Including this. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />[/quote']
Wow!! Thank you for that. I really appreciate it. You made me smile.
once your body adjust it will level off and you will never be hungry' date='and you will have to remind your self to eat,i had to set my timer to eat every two hour,we have to remember the key to losing is eating..and I found out when I smell the foods I can not have,it helps me to just take a big smell, and it tricks your mind to think you are eating it,and the craving goes away <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />[/quote']
That doesn't hold true for everyone.
Once you're cleared for solids it does seem to get easier. More satisfied.
Sometimes I wonder if its because we have to think and focus so much on our intake. It becomes a dominate thought, which can manifest as "hunger".
I think this thread should be shown to the mom who wants to take her 14 yr old to Mx for VSG.
At 19 we are still learning, growing, and maturing... Especially through trial and error.

I chose Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras' date=' MX. He was on the "higher end", and I paid 8700. I chose him because I was unable to find anything negative about him in everything I read. I watched very many of his YouTube videos and I wanted to be in a hospital rather then a recovery house. I was not disappointed. He and his staff were extremely attentive and all my needs were attended to. I'm a Nurse, so I tend to be hypercritical. I would definitely refer him to any friends or family that were considering this procedure.[/quote']Ditto that with Dr. Aceves. Except I brought Nurse Mom! Doesn't get much harder to impress than Nurse Mom. A mom for 33 years and a nurse for 25+ years! She's even recommending Dr. Aceves to inquiring co-workers and family. Mexico WLS was a HOT topic amongst everyone we know.... :-)
What are you getting done by Dr. Lopez' date=' Amanda?[/quote']
I changed my surgeon and had my VSG done by Dr. Aceves on March 18th in Mexicali.
I'll bite' date='<img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
How??[/quote']
Put a little boogie (bougie) in it!!! :-D

It's a dance from the 70's
How do you make a tissue dance?
I choose Dr. House.
Good luck with your choice. Both surgeons are well reviewed with regards to their skills.
I wasn't trying to dredge up any drama' date=' AmandaRaeLeo, I just was sharing my point of view. I am aware of the situation and there is some blame on both sides. That doesn't mean that Dr. Luna is not a good doctor and he will be missed by a lot of us. I am entitled to my own opinion.[/quote']I am merely asking you, not telling you, to let it be. Whether or not, and it seems you are choosing "not", you honor that request is up to you. Bringing it up serves no purpose other than upsetting people and get people riled up. That's just my opinion.

Bravo! Thank you for that post.Thank you. We call all be such an asset to each other but we've, collectively, lost sight of all that recently.
