    soooo annoyed !

That's insane! It seems like your insurance changes whenever it feels like it (except for when you changed jobs).

    Pureed food stall

Make sure the pureed food is not to dry. Add extra liquid.

Have a great recovery and a beautiful journey!

Seriously struggling with getting my protein

Ugh, I was sleeved 12/27 and simply cannot stomach the protein powders. Even the thought, makes me kind of, you know Thanks, TheGamer, I will try the hot chocolate with chocolate protein. Hot might be better than the shakes I can eat yogurt just fine, but that's only five grams of protein, I'd have to eat ten of them. It seems there is no winning at this point of the game.

I was sleeved 12/27, down only four pounds.

Paying a diductible before surgery ?

I had to pay the surgeon everything I owed him before he would operate. We ended up paying him around $1700. I haven't paid the hospital or the anesthesiologist. When we pre-registered at the hospital, they wanted $900, but I didn't have it. I had a very nice person that told me when I get the bill, to call and make payment arrangements.
  7. I hope it turns out to be nothing. My surgeon believes that a leak (if it were to turn out you have one at this late date) is there from the beginning. The patient has somehow been able to compensate for it. It is highly unlikely that a leak would develop this far along, so if you have one, you have been able to handle the symptoms. I hope you don't have one. You are so close to goal! Good luck.

New guy here, you've GOT to read this!

Oakleygirl, leaks are uncommon. Really! It's just that we are all afraid of them, no one wants them, so when there is one mentioned, it gets a lot of attention. Really, if you were to dig and find the people who had them, they would really only be a few.

New guy here, you've GOT to read this!

Everything on this thread was fine, until what you posted. That comment doesn't belong here and it is those comments that keep the ball rolling. So please, roll along.

    Day 8 - Nausea

Nausea can happen at any time, to any one, whenever! It's the persistent nausea you should watch out for. Good luck.

    Red sore knot on arm.

I have a knot in the bend of my elbow from the IV. It is very common. It's called thrombophlebitis. "The presence of superficial phlebitis does not necessary suggest an underlying DVT. Upper extremity (upper limbs) and lower extremities (lower limbs) superficial thrombosis or phlebitis are typically benign conditions and have a favorable prognosis." I am only eight days post op. On this Wednesday I went to my post op visit with my surgeon and his response to my inquiry when I showed him the knot was, "It'll get better!" Most of the time they are treated with aspirin type meds, which we cannot take, so we can use applications of hot and cold. That is just what I found out about my lump. Mine is not red or swollen, just there, and I realized it was there one or two days after being home from the hospital. You definitely should still inquire about yours. Hope it turns out to be nothing at all. Good luck!

    Sleeved a year ago today...

You're right, wow, what a journey. But you seem to have weathered it well. I lost my mom two years ago, so, yup, I know what you mean. I was just sleeved 12/27, so still hoping for the best, as I do for you! BTW, what is your profile pic about? It's cute. Take care.

UHC question- does anyone know how long the approval is good?

I have UHC and was approved in December. It could have been good for a year for all I know, but I had to have my surgery before year end due to changes come January 1. We still have UHC, but the $ costs are soooo much higher.

    Antidepressants & Weight Gain

I take 30 mg of paxil a day for years and I believe it contributed to my weight gain, to a degree. But I am a happier person on paxil and don't ever want to stop it.
  15. Have you had any nausea or vomiting in the previous months after surgery?

    Weird new pain

I, too, was going to say kidneys, but I think they are a little higher that top of buttocks. How is your peeing?

DAY ONE PRE OP AND ALREADY STRUGGLING!

No, kidding, it does suck. You get used to it. After the third day it gets easier having no food, really. It isn't the end of food, though. You can have food again, in tiny amounts and you need to learn to enjoy the flavor and savor what you have. I was sleeved on 12/27 and I can have three tablespoons of creamy Soup and it is the best ever. Tiny spoons I savor every little spoonful. You can do it, but you have to have a strong desire to succeed. I personally know, I won't do anything to damage my sleeve, so I can wait for real food to come back into my life. Good luck to you.

Sleeved 12/31 - Story so far..

Good job, actingnurse. We all want to run. I was sleeved 12/27, so far, so good. Everyday gets a little better, even though everyday you may notice different pains or twitches, here and there. I hated the drain and wish I didn't have one because now I worry about any excess bleeding into the cavity around my stomach. But soooo many patients don't even get one, so my doc said, pretend you didn't have one. OK, maybe, I can do that . Have a good recovery and a great journey.

    completely disgusted....

Are you still menstrating? If you are, don't forget how many things effect our bodies. Don't be frustrated. Stay on track and good changes will occur, as well. Good luck.
  20. Sorry, I'm not the OP but I just had my drain taken out yesterday after 6 days. They have a tube inserted into the area outside the newly formed sleeve to capture and remove any excess fluids that may come from the staple line. I still had some fluids coming out of the tube when the doc removed it. He was not concerned.
  21. At week three, I can move to "smooth" foods. Is that what you are doing?

HOW LONG DO I NEED HELP?

I suggest a new post to all postop moms with babies. My babies are 22 (had surgery with me) and 18 and thank goodness can be self-sufficient. I wouldn't have wanted to take care of a baby. I just had surgery 12/27 and it was at least 4-5 days before I could really do anything. Today I was on my hands and knees cleaning dog poo off the carpet, does that count? Good luck!

    Should I be worried?

What were the symptoms that caused them to think embolism and how did they find the bleeding at the incision line?

4 days out and having second thoughts

Forget the shake and concentrate on sipping tiny sips of water every few minutes.

    QUESTION?

Chiming in...my nutritionist said six months, biggest weight loss. Slower up to 12 months, slower still to 18 months when they say everyone should have reached their top weight loss.
