    Insurance WLS Exclusion

Mine excludes it completely, and there was no way to get it added. So I ended up self-paying with a local surgeon.
  3. I had surgery Monday 12/10. I was back to work at my desk job on Thursday, 12/13 (worked from home that day and went back to the office on 12/14.) I've had no problems and feel great. No painkillers since leaving the hospital on 12/11, incisions healing wonderfully, and just a small amount of soreness around the largest incision which is almost completely resolved now.

    Preop diet to shrink liver

My doctor didn't want it to be liquid only unless you were over 300lbs. My pre-op was a combo of light eating (egg, yogurt, lean meat, veggies) and protein shakes. 2 shakes, 2 light meals. I lost 16lbs in 2 weeks and my doc said everything looked great during surgery.

    Full liquid question

I did the same thing last night. Regular broth wasn't cutting it. My husband made himself some ramen noodles and gave me the bowl first so I could have some of the broth. It was heavenly.

    Who woulda thunk it?

I split my time between home and the office. It's the best of both worlds for me, though sometimes I wish I could just work from home for a month or two solid. I used to work from home full time and after awhile it took its toll. I guess the grass is always greener......

Hows your weight loss coming along?

I was sleeved 12/10. I was 282 the day of surgery and today I'm 274. It's crazy that you've lost 22lbs in less than a week. That seems like so much.

    Paying Out of Pocket

$12,000 cash in the Houston, TX area. If I financed through Care Credit it would have been $14,000.

How much is too much pain?

I was sleeved on the 10th also. I don't have the lower chest/stomach pain you're mentioned, but I'm also only allowed clear fluids, 1oz every 10 minutes. As days have passed, I've stopped measuring but still only take no more than one sip of juice or broth every 5-10 minutes. Maybe you could stop the full fluids and go back to clear only to see if it helps? As for incision pain, I still have pain in certain positions or when making certain motions - but for the most part I'm ok getting around. Every day gets better for me. Are you overdoing it at all?
  10. These chewable Vitamins are really grossing me out and I'm not sure if I can take them right now while I'm still so fresh from surgery. Did everyone immediately get on the Vitamin regimen, or did you wait a bit until things calmed down? Thanks!
  11. I'm only a few days post-op and still on Clear liquids, but I'm already daydreaming about moving up to shakes and purees! I need a change of pace soon! My doc likes Chike, so I have a big bin of vanilla flavored powder. I also plan to pick up some additional Chike flavor samples and maybe some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and nectar samplers as well. Plain vanilla Chike isn't exactly what I call delish, but I know it could have potential with some additional flavors added in. What are your favorite add-ins (syrups, extracts, fruits, etc) to make Protein shakes taste a bit more palatable? Also - do you make yours with Water or milk? Thanks!

    dec 10th sleevers

I'm feeling pretty darn good. Pain is much less. I only woke once or twice last night, and that's really only because I hate sleeping on my back. I "went back" to work today, but worked from home. Honestly, I could have been at the office. I feel fine - just some soreness when I turn the wrong way or move too quickly. My doc is very conservative and wants me on Clear Liquids only until 1 week post-op. So for now it's little 1oz medicine cups at a time of juice, Isopure juice, broth, or Jello. Next week I can move to non-clear liquids and pureed foods. I'm not doing as good as I could be with my fluids and Protein, but I'm trying. It's not due to pain, but rather remembering to do it every 10 minutes like I'm supposed to.

    2 days post op

As of this morning, I was down 2.2lbs from my weight on Monday morning. I was so pumped full of fluids, I'm surprised I hadn't gained.

    2 days post op

Yes, it did start off that way with every sip. I felt it really bad in my chest. Now it only happens maybe once or twice per hour. My doctor advised me to take the entire cup in my mouth at one time, close my mouth, and then swallow to help reduce the amount of air taken in. He did say that with all the activity during surgery it's not abnormal to feel this way at first. Since it's starting to occur less and less frequently, I'm hopeful it will eventually go away.

    2 days post op

I also had my surgery on Monday. Went home yesterday. I spent the morning today resting and getting my fluids in (1oz every 15 minutes of Isopure clear). Late this morning into the afternoon we took care of a couple errands and picked up a few Christmas gifts. It felt nice to be out of the surgery funk and among the land of the living again. We were out for a bit and when I started to get tired, we came home. Now I'm resting again and keeping up with my fluids. I think as long as you're moving around somewhat, you're fine. Right now our focus should be getting in our fluids as much as we can, and not staying sedentary all day long.
  16. I slept somewhat elevated in my hospital bed last night, so it wasn't an issue. When I got home today I wanted to take a nap and tried to lay in my bed. Even with extra pillows, it was not going well. When were you able to lay flat on your bed after surgery? Thanks!
  17. asherje - We were sleeved the same day and I think we're in the same general area based on the doctor who did your band. We should get together when we're not feeling so lousy!
  18. Just got home a little while ago. So glad to be out of the hospital. I'm very tired and sore, and dealing with gas pains and occasional nausea. Trying to get my clear fluids in, but having a rough time. Hoping to start feeling human again soon. Anyone care to give me a pep talk, because I could sure use one right now! I'll start to feel better soon, right?
  19. Big freaking ditto. Ugh.
  20. I'm due to arrive at the hospital at 5:30am, with surgery around 7:30-8am. I'm ready to get this over with, but really starting to get nervous about complications during surgery. I'm only 34 and have two young kids and a husband that I love dearly. I'm not ready to leave them. I know this is not likely to happen, but it's something I can't help but worry about. I'm ready for the lifestyle change, the new relationship with food, getting recommitted to exercise, and losing all of this weight. I'm ready to get me back. Trying to tie up loose ends with work and all of my other obligations tonight. This weekend screamed by. I can't believe it's my turn to post that it's the night before my surgery. I'm not sure how I'm going to sleep tonight, but I'll try. Wish me luck and I'll check in from the other side! Thanks!

    Surgery tomorrow...

    I'm tomorrow, too!
  22. I understand there's nothing definitive. I was just pairing the potential relationship with the fact that there aren't really any long term studies available on the VSG surgery. The unknown can be scary - at least to me! I felt it needed to be part of my decision making process. I'm still going through with the surgery on Monday. Still nervous about the unknown, but you can't expect much else from a Type-A, planning, control freak.
  23. That is a big concern for me as well. I was reading about some sort of relationship between ghrelin and memory. For awhile, all I could think about was early onset Alzheimer's happening as a result of my surgery. I know a lot of hormones can be replaced synthetically, so I'm hoping if there is some sort of cognitive side effect from the surgery - there's a chance that medication therapy may help.
  24. My doctor requires that I have one of the bigger glass bottles of Isopure every day for the first week after surgery. I've heard mixed reviews about their taste. Glad to hear someone else likes them!
  25. I'm not telling anyone. Just my husband knows. My kids are 5 and 8 and I don't want to scare them. I'm not close with my family and I hardly speak to them as it is, so that's that. I may tell certain friends down the line, but we'll see. For now, there's no reason for them to know.
