    Why Lie?!?!

I find it interesting that some people think it's ok to even put other in a position to have to answer this question. Just because you ask, doesn't mean I'm obligated to answer the way you want. The person asking is the one overstepping, in my opinion. It's not right to paint the person responding as a liar because you put them on the spot with a personal question. Let's put it this way, if you ask someone a question that could reasonably be answered with, "That's private" or "I don't feel comfortable answering that" - you probably shouldn't have asked it in the first place.
  2. This is probably going to sound like a weird question, but I noticed something strange today and I'm curious if others have experienced as well. I consider myself a slow loser. My next official weigh in is tomorrow, and I will likely be down about 28lbs from my surgery 2 months ago, maybe 1-2lbs from my weigh in last week (which had no loss from the week before). Anyway, I was in my closet today and happened to find two pairs of dress pants and a pair of jeans that I wore around 30lbs lighter ago. For the hell of it, I put them on to see how much further I had before they would fit. I could actually pull them up and fasten them. Now, they are still too tight to be public worthy - but they fit over my butt/thighs and could fasten around my belly. I was shocked. Like many of you, I have gained and lost weight my entire life. I know how my body responds to weight loss, but it's different this time. I feel like the scale is more slow to move down with the sleeve, but my clothes are telling me that my body itself is getting smaller despite the numbers not falling. In my past efforts, the scale numbers and body size seemed to go down together at the same time. Stupidly I haven't been taking my measurements, but it seems to be what's happening based on my clothes. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Tips to eat slower

Watching this one, because I have the same problem. I was sleeved on 12/10 and now that I'm eating "normally" again, it's a huge struggle. I typically eat breakfast and lunch while working, so getting sidetracked with work helps slow me down. But dinner kills me. I just can't get myself to chew that many times and then sit for so long between bites. It's really been my only struggle with this surgery!

My job doesnt have weight loss coverage

My policy excluded it, too. There was no fighting it, and I wasn't going to change jobs. I ended up self-paying here in the states.
  5. I had a very easy c-section recovery. My daughter was premature so I was up and around going back and forth between home and the NICU 2 days after she was born. I think that helped me recover more quickly. No pain meds needed once I was home, no complications, etc. My VSG was also an easy recovery. No pain meds once I was home and I was working 3 days later. In terms of pain, I will say the c-section was worse. But my recovery with the VSG was less pleasant due to being thirsty and the dry heaving, etc. I didn't have that with my section.

    Spouses reaction 2 weight loss

It makes me sad to hear stories like this. I've been with my husband for 12 years, married for 10 in August. We're both turning 35 this year. We started dating when I was in the 240s. I was in the 160s by the time we got married. Then came babies and he watched me go up down over 100lbs back and forth over the next 8 years, leading to my highest weight of 298lbs. Nothing has ever changed from him to me. Yes, I've had my own personal issues with my weight, but they were my issues - not his. He's my biggest cheerleader. He helps me see the changes that I have a hard time seeing. He cooks me healthy food. He pushes me to get to the gym - even when I don't want to. I truly think he's more excited about seeing me happy with myself, then with seeing me skinny. The better looking body is just a bonus that he gets to enjoy as well. He's helped to make this experience a positive one. It makes me sad that other people have had to deal with unneeded stress and lack of support from your spouse during such an important time. Please see them for who they are. I'm not encouraging everyone to divorce or anything, but if there is that much jealousy and animosity present - you should, at minimum, seek counseling. I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope you can find a way to remove this toxicity from your life.
  7. For me, it was just time that helped me get over the "this is crazy" feeling. I truly couldn't believe I was willingly going to lop off 3/4 of a "healthy" organ, that I was going to alter the rest of my life so significantly with this permanent decision. However, now I'm 7.5 weeks out and living what is a normal life for people who haven't battled with their weight their entire lives. food doesn't own me anymore. I eat small portions throughout the day. I make smarter food decisions - selecting things like Proteins over empty carbs and sugary Snacks. Yes, I can't eat the old way I ate anymore. Yes, I can't go into my favorite restaurant and eat my favorite dish in its entirety. But you damn well better believe I eat some of it! I realize now that this is how life is supposed to be. A perfect balance between still enjoying food, but not letting it control you. Being active and social and not being in pain or embarrassed all of the time. Granted I'm only down about 42lbs, but those 42lbs have made a big change in the way I feel physically. So yes, it may seem crazy in the beginning - but here on the other side you realize just how crazy you were living life before being sleeved. At least for me it's been that way.

    FUZZY MATH

I did the same ridiculous calculation as well. Then I said screw it and just work to do my best. Part of my reasoning to have this surgery was to begin a new lifestyle, but it was also to make it a realistic lifestyle. Scheduling regimented fluids during a crazy busy work day full of meetings, conference calls, and fighting fires just isn't realistic. I sort of touched upon this very topic with my NUT at my follow up this week. I need to make this a livable tool for me or it's not going to work. Anyway, I digress. Just wanted to commiserate!

    Does everyone vomit post-op?

Other than dry heaving a few times for the first 2 days post-op, I've no vomiting or nausea at all. No problems with any food, consistency, etc.
  10. My doc is telling me that eating at 800 calories and below is not advised once you have a mature sleeve due to the starvation aspect. I'm 7 weeks out and had a follow up today. He and the NUT both advised me to up my current caloric intake of 800-ish calories and work toward 1500. I feel like this is contrary to what everyone else is doing in this thread, but I don't want to discount him as the expert. Is anyone else eating this much and losing consistently?
  11. Mine covers nothing for WLS, either. While I think the MX surgery options are wonderful, I was too nervous to do it myself. I explored local surgeons and found pricing in my area to be rather reasonable compared to other areas of the US. I paid $12k in the Houston area. I used some bonus money and some savings to pay for it.

    Pre Surgery tests

My doctor was exactly the same. I returned to work the same week as surgery. (Surgery Monday, work from home Thursday, back in the office Friday). I felt great and didn't want to use up PTO.

    Self-Pay Sleevers

$12,000 cash. It would have been $14,000 if I financed it. Houston, TX area. This includes a year of follow ups, nutritionist, etc. I did my pre-op testing on my health insurance. I've had a couple of small bills pop up since then (pregnancy test, leak test X-ray reading charge, surgical path), but had them try running it through my insurance and so far they've paid everything but the $11 pregnancy test. At least I'm getting them to cover something for the crazy premiums I pay!

    biggest regret

That I pushed it off for 3 months. I was self-pay so no waiting period. I just selfishly wanted to wait until after my vacation to an all-inclusive in Mexico so I could gorge myself for a week. Yeah, the food and booze was good, but I sat there like a lump the whole time because I was too big and tired to do anything physical. Well, I take that back. We climbed Coba and I thought I was going to die. 300lbs gets really heavy after climbing a few steps. Anyway, I had this idea in my head that my post-sleeve life was going to be this sad miserable existence where I could never enjoy food again. On the contrary, I've had an amazingly easy recovery and I truly have a sleeve of steel. No nausea, no vomiting, no sliming, no nothing. I can eat pretty much whatever I want, and I'm only 6-ish weeks out. Of course, I keep it healthy nowadays - but I still go out to lunch with my hubby and enjoy delicious food. I still have fun at parties. I still would have had fun in Mexico if I went post-sleeve. I probably would have enjoyed it even more since I would have lost a fair amount of weight by that point. That's really my only regret. It's hard to regret anything else when I finally FINALLY have a healthy relationship with food. I don't lust for it or depend on it anymore. It's wonderful. Watching the scale move downward and feeling my clothes get looser also makes it hard to regret anything!

    Weight and waist?

I consider myself a slow loser. I'm 6 weeks post-op and I've lost about 21lbs, 37lbs including the pre-op diet. I suck getting in my fluids, but that's always been a struggle for me - even before I had surgery. I like to think I've got the protein thing down. I shoot for 80g a day and probably average about 60-70g most days. I'm happy with that for right now.

    Protien Shakes/Powders

My surgeon recommends Chike, so that's what I've been using. You can order a variety pack of single serve packets directly from their website. http://www.chikenutrition.com/buy-chike.html

    Weight and waist?

I think everyone loses from different areas. I tend to lose first in my chest and neck/shoulders, then waist, then my face, hips, thighs, and arms. I'm down about 37lbs total and I don't feel like I look any different, but my husband has definitely noticed. I think it's because I'm losing in those places that weren't proportionally big to begin with.

    Where can I don't find I PB2?

If you're in Texas, HEB carries it as well. They actually had it highlighted today, along with the chocolate version of PB2.
  20. I've never been put under before. I have just one c-section under my belt in terms of surgery, so this is all foreign territory to me. I know surgery is fairly quick, but are you still out for awhile afterward?
  21. I'm 5' 4.5" and my nutritionist's goal for me is 160. I started at 298. I'm fine with a goal of 160, but have also set a "dream" goal of 145, if it seems attainable. The thinnest I've been as an adult was around 165 and I was a size 8/10. I was good with that, but also wouldn't mind being a 6/8 or a solid 8.
  22. I don't think tampons are ok. You'll get the oh-so-lovely (but comfy!) mesh panties and the hospital pads. If you've ever had a baby, you'll know what I'm talking about!
  23. I had surgery on Monday, discharged on Tuesday, worked from home Thursday, and was in the office on Friday. I didn't need painkillers once I got home, so I didn't need to worry about that. I have a desk job and I'm 34, in good health.
  24. Down 15.5lbs. Lost exactly 1lb from last Monday to this Monday. I know this is normal and my doc is very pleased with my progress, so I'm not going to let the scale demons win this one. It looks like several of us are in the 15-18lb range. I'm going to keep on keeping on, make a push to get in my protein/fluids, start weights now that I'm cleared, and follow my doc's guidelines to eat 6-8 times a day. I have one more week of soft and then I start regular food. Curious how that's going to pan out!
  25. If I remember, you lost a whole bunch up front. You're body is just catching up now. I was sleeved the same day as you, and according to my unofficial weigh in this morning I'm down 16lbs from my surgery weight. 32lbs including pre-op diet. I will officially log my weight tomorrow morning. As you can see, we're pretty close to each other. I had my first follow up last week and my surgeon said I'm exactly where I should be, so don't get too down on yourself. I was kind of hoping I had lost more too, but I'm trying to think of this as a marathon and not a sprint. I know it will come off - it has to considering the amount of calories I net in a day.
