Irregular menstrual cycles
lucky8mb1 replied to sm8705's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 8 months post-surgery. My first one after surgery was a week late. My third one after surgery was a week or so early. My most recent one was 8 days early. I already have pretty short cycles (24 days) so this isn't great for me. I have a Paragard (non-hormonal) IUD. I actually had my annual recently and will be going in for some further testing later this month to see if there's something going on. If they don't find anything, I'm going to have to go on hormones to help try and regulate things. -
All of my December sleevers...
lucky8mb1 replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just over 6 months post-op and I'm 74lbs down from my starting weight. I'm most pleased at the fact that I just spent 10 days at an all-inclusive resort and came home 3lbs lighter. I would typically gain 5-7lbs on these trips pre-surgery! -
All of my December sleevers...
lucky8mb1 replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't updated in awhile, but here's how I'm doing... Sleeved 12/10/12 SW: 298 Sx Weight: 282 Today: 229 I'm at 69lbs total, 53lbs since surgery. I'm slow, but lose steadily at about 1-2lbs per week. I actually like losing at this rate because it's giving me a chance to keep my skin situation in check. I'm at the gym a few days a week and about to do day 20 of the 30 Day Shred. I feel great and love that I live a normal life with regards to my eating. -
December 2012 sleevers. How much have you lost?
lucky8mb1 replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 12/10/12. I've lost 60lbs total since starting my pre-op diet on 11/26, 44lbs of it have been lost since surgery. -
There are a lot of opinions about calories out there, so take this with a grain of salt - but personally I think your caloric intake is way too low. I was sleeved 6 days after you and my doctor and nut want me up to 1200-1500. I manage 1000-1200 most days. I've lost about 59lbs. The only stall I've had was one week when I didn't lose. Other than that, I score a loss (albeit some weeks a small one) every week. You may want to try and up your calories for a couple of weeks (still prioritize Protein over carbs) and see what happens.

Yes, I can't remember if it was one or two weeks late, but my first one was definitely late. Completely normal.

It depends. Some guys can pull it off - others can't. I've definitely been attracted to bald men before, but there are other factors at play that affect my attraction to them as well.

Sleeved 12/10 and down 49lbs as of today. Slow, but not horrible. -
Would you have paid without insurance coverage?
lucky8mb1 replied to Houston17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance did not cover any sort of WLS at all. I was self-pay in the US (approx $12k) and it's been worth every penny. -
Self Pay - time frame start to finish
lucky8mb1 replied to Stacy Mendoza's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was self pay in the US and I could have had my surgery as quickly as 3 weeks from my initial consultation. Basically long enough to get to my PCP for pre-op labs/ekg/chest x-ray, and then start my 2 week pre-op diet. The only thing that could have delayed me would have been a positive h.pylori test, which would have pushed things back a couple of weeks so I could take antibiotics and then re-test. My surgery was 3 months after my first consultation but that was purely by choice due to my own personal scheduling limitations. -
I was sleeved Monday and was working from home by Thursday.....and back in the office on Friday. I have a desk job and didn't want to use more than a couple of days PTO. I also didn't want to use STD because no one knew I was having surgery and I wanted to keep it that way.

smaller measurements with vsg then without @ same weight ?
lucky8mb1 replied to mikeross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually posted the same thing a few weeks back. On a whim I tried on some pants that fit me about 20-30lbs less than I was at the time. I was certain they weren't going to fit, but to my surprise I got them on and fastened. If I remember correctly, someone said they thought it was because of the high protein diet we're on now. I can see how this is true. With a calorie/protein and protein/carb ratio drastically different than what we're used to (even when dieting), it seems feasible that we would lose differently than normal, too. -
A true testament to the sleeve.....
lucky8mb1 replied to lucky8mb1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved 12/10 and I believe I will hit 50lbs lost by my official weigh in on Monday. I now live a "normal" life when it comes to food, and I love every minute of it! -
As I was neatening up around the kitchen and pantry today, I realized a couple of things..... We bought 2 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies from a neighbor this year. Last year,we would have bought double the amount and they would have lasted maybe 48 hours in this house before being decimated. We've now had them for over 2 weeks and still have an entire box left. I truly forget they are there, and never care to have more than one cookie as a treat once a week or so. Another - my husband's birthday was not too long ago and a friend baked an amazing homemade cake for him. Half of it went uneaten before it had to be thrown out today. Cake in the trash??!! That would have NEVER happened before my surgery. This, my friends, is progress!

A true testament to the sleeve.....
lucky8mb1 replied to lucky8mb1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Nah, I've never been a fan of deprivation. I have control now. I am better than the food, and I really appreciate living a normal life now. There will always been sweets and junk - at home, at work, at events, etc. The better I learn to control myself when I don't have to, the better I will be at controlling myself every other time. Not to mention, a life without the occasional treat sounds kind of depressing. Most fit/healthy people I know still indulge every now and then. Moderation is now my middle name, and it's no longer difficult to be that way. Oh, and for what it's worth, my husband was the one to buy the Cookies - not me. And the cake was a gift for him, not a purchase. Which is kind of my point - there will always be external factors there to tempt me. Resisting a pantry full of Snacks every day has conditioned me to pass over the junk at work, parties, etc. As a result, it's also helped my snacking partner (my non-obese husband) eat less, too. Believe me - it wasn't all me eating that stuff. -
I use the Paragard IUD. No hormones at all. I've had it for 5.5 years (it's good for 10 years) and it's been great! I'll never go back to hormonal BC again.

For now, every 20lbs I do a massage and/or mani and/or pedi. Once I hit some of my bigger goals, I've got things like teeth whitening, a Sephora shopping spree, fancy new cut/color, a piece of jewelry I've been coveting, clothing shopping spree. Another one is waxing. I refuse to be waxed now because I feel I'm too big. I can't wait to not have to shave anymore!! Once I hit goal, I've got plastic surgery scheduled as my reward.
-
Mine have always been disproportionately small. Even at almost 300lbs, I was only a C cup. Anyway, I always lose in my chest/breast first, and this time has been no different. I can't fill out my C cups anymore. I've gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the past 19 years and have breastfed two children until they were just over a year old. My breasts are a wreck and pretty much always have been. I will absolutely be getting an augmentation and possibly a lift if I need it, once I hit my dr. goal of 160lbs. I'm turning 35 this year and for once in my life I want nice boobs!

My kids are 8 and 5. I didn't tell them. I felt it was too much and I didn't need them to worry about something completely out of their control. I said goodbye and that I loved them like any other time.

Houston-SETX Sleevers?!
lucky8mb1 replied to jennaleigh1992's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
None at all. I was back to work less than a week later. I needed no pain meds once I left the hospital. The first week was rough because I couldn't stand the Isopure Clear, but once I started purees, life was much more manageable. I've not vomited once since 2 days pre-op. I can handle everything I've tried. I eat pretty much everything I used to - just crazy smaller amounts now. I did cut all carbonation when I started my pre-op and haven't touched it again since. It's actually been very easy. As of this morning, I'm down to about 250-251, so I'm super close to the 50lb mark now. I'm not the fastest loser, but I'm consistent and I'm actually kind of happy it's coming off at a "normal" rate of about 2lbs per week. I'm hoping it makes my skin bounce back easier! I feel great and I love my new relationship with food. It doesn't own me anymore. I eat when I'm hungry. Stop when I'm full (which doesn't take much!) I don't deprive myself. If I want something sweet, I have a bite or two - and honestly, that's enough for me. I've dealt with food demons my whole life and I'm starting to understand that this is what a "normal" relationship with food is like. I love it! Good luck!! -
Houston-SETX Sleevers?!
lucky8mb1 replied to jennaleigh1992's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Houston area, 10.5 weeks post-op. If you're being sleeved in Conroe, I'm guessing your surgeon is Dr. Collier? He did mine. -
All of my December sleevers...

Sleeved 12/10. Down 46.2lbs. Of that, 16lbs were lost with pre-op diet. So 30lbs since surgery 10 weeks ago. I think I lose on the slower side. -
Delay of Menstruation After Surgery
lucky8mb1 replied to msuero's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes. I was a bit over a week late for the first one after surgery. My surgeon said it was normal. It came eventually and I was on track after that. -
My insurance excluded all bariatric surgery as well. There was no appealing - the policy I had simply would not cover it. It seems the options are to either self pay (which is what I did) or appeal to your employer to add bariatric surgery coverage (or see if they can switch policies during the next open enrollment period). You can always try to appeal, but in my experience - I would prepare yourself for the worst if your policy specifically excludes it.

Do you still throw up lwith the sleeve?
lucky8mb1 replied to MelissaGG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't speak for everyone, but I'm 2 months post-op and have not vomited once. I dry heaved a couple times in the two days post-surgery, but nothing else.
