    Turkey patties?

haven't had turkey patties but have been eating turkey deli slices since about 3 weeks out...recently tried a hamburger patty now that I am 7 weeks out and had no problem (I ate about a half patty for each meal)
  2. sassygirl, do you recall how long it was post-op when you stopped taking your PPI?
  3. tigerbelle

    Foooooood

I think it is normal to feel "scared" whenever you move to a new phase in your program...I am about 7 weeks out and finally tried red meat (a ground beef patty)--even then I was scared (all went well)...I just think that if you are doing well you don't want to risk anything that might set you back, so to speak...again, I think it is all normal, but this is a trial and error thing...and I have posted many times about how frustrating it is that there are such variances early on in the eating plans prescribed by the various surgeons and NUTS--you would think by now there would be some standard diet plan post-op
  5. I am a type 2 diabetic, and before the surgery I was on 40 units of insulin daily plus the maximum daily metformin dosage of 500 mg twice daily--even on the meds I was having difficulty controlling my glucose levels, and my a1c got as high as 11 at one time...since WLS, I am down to just 1/2 of a metformin once daily, and I don't really think I need that..most days my glucose levels don't go over 110 or 120 and most of the day stay under 100...haven't had lab work though since my VSG on May 6...I will go soon to my PCP for blood work and am expecting my a1c to be below 7 this time...I am hoping this is a permanent remission of my diabetes...I doubt I will ever get of blood pressure meds...I think mine is a genetic predisposition because I have been taking meds for hypertension since I was in my 20s and of relatively normal weight...I am on two types of meds now for blood pressure and at least hope my PCP will take me off one of them soon...best of luck to your husband in his decision process--it is a tough one (or at least was for me)

    High weigh panni

I have had this surgery...back in 2009 before I had WLS...I hesitated even posting this because I don't really want to influence you one way or the other, but you did ask so I will tell you my experience..usually drs will "stage" the panni based on how low it hangs--mine was in close to the worst stage because it hung down almost to my knees (I have short legs)...it was difficult for me to find a dr to perform the panniculectomy but I did find a surgeon who performed it, and he was an excellent surgeon...I was warned before of the risks, but mine was hanging so low it was affecting my mobility, and I was getting all kinds of serious skin infections...I ended up having complications because I had a massive lymphedema on one side, and I had a lot of necrotized (dead) tissue that had to be removed...I was in the hospital in rehab and such for 3 months and on home health care for another 2 months...I ended up having to have a skin graft over almost my entire abdomen...but I did recover and am much more mobile (even before my recent WLS), and I do not regret I did it...that is my story
  9. misty, I just loaded that amazon one to my kindle...thanks

    Protein panic attack

like others have said, blending with ice helps, plus using milk of some sort instead of water...also, I can confirm that the Chocolate Splendor by Unjury is good...I also like peanut butter so I add PB2 powder to a lot of my shakes...good luck
  12. I just bought a book that came highly recommended by my NUT, but I haven't read it yet...it is titled "Eat It Up!-The Complete Mind/Body/Spirit Guide to a Full Life After Weight Loss Surgery," and the author is Connie Stapleton, PhD....it looks user friendly and a fairly quick read...I will report back once I've read it
  13. I keep the single serving size of Jif peanut butter in my desk at work...I have eaten it in place of a meal before, and it is very satisfying and protein-rich...maybe those snack-size packs of nuts, like almonds

    Pills

ok here is what I am taking on the non prescription supplement side: a multi-vitamin specifically for bariatrics (chewable, twice a day), B12 sublingual (every other day), and I am supposed to be taking calcium every day but ran out of the samples my NUT gave me and can't find them in the drug store (I need to go to GNC tomorrow)...I am curious to compare that with what others are taking...also, I am curious about what type of calcium you are taking...my NUT told me to take Calcium Citrate (which is not the same as "regular" calcium supplements, which are called calcium carbonate I think)...she gave me some that are like square chewies that remind me of those Kraft caramels...I think she said for me to take 3 throughout the day...and then she said that I could take them with the multi vitamin because the multivitamin she has me taking doesn't have iron in it (the brand is Celebrate)...does all of this sound right to y'all? Is it similar to what your NUT or surgeon has recommended for you?

    So im curious....

I know, DonR...right now I am stacking up the leftovers...on my second day of eating my Lebanese plate and have leftover Thai and a half hamburger patty in fridge to eat on this weekend...I usually end up throwing leftovers out because I get tired of it
  16. tigerbelle

    So im curious....

thank goodness I still love my coffee; like you said, it is a comfort beverage, especially now that I can't have my Diet Coke any more

The importance of exercise right after surgery

that all makes sense....and I am trying hard to at least walk a little every day....I am just really struggling with being so tired when I get home from work...as soon as my incisions fully heal, I am going to start back with water aerobics...thanks for the insightful post

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

wow, Molly...I was sleeved the day before you and have only lost 30 pounds post-op...you have lost the 57 lbs all post-op? If so, you've doubled my weight loss

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

mystigal, your diet plan is similar to mine--I am 7 weeks out though--although I think I am eating a little more than you with solid foods...for example I could probably have 3 slices of fajita meat (if they weren't especially thick slices) and more like a couple of tablespoons of refried Beans I can't get in as much liquids as you do...but you've already lost more than me, and I am three weeks ahead of you post-surgery...I just keep telling myself to stay with the plan and not get frustrated at how slowly I am losing danbo, I have also many times here on the message board expressed frustration with the varying recommendations among surgeons and NUTs...at 7 weeks out, I have been trying to get most of my Protein from foods and just supplement as needed with the protein shakes...well, when I touched base with my NUT a week or two ago, she told me the opposite; i.e., that I should be getting most of my protein from the shakes with very little coming from food...I for sure believe she would think I am eating too much food quantity wise, but I have been keeping track of my daily calorie count, and it is averaging about 600 to 700...I take all my Vitamins, too, but I am so tired all of the time I am fearful of cutting back too much on the calories..very frustrating

    Tired all the time!

I just got back from my daily 20-minute walk...I feel like a failure sometimes when I hear of other sleevers working out daily at the gym and walking a mile or two a day...I am so tired when I get home from working all day that it is a tremendous effort to even walk to the end of my street and back (hence the 20 minutes)...I honestly don't know how others do it...I guess it doesn't help that I am 51 years old
  24. tigerbelle

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

that is a long stall, so I am wondering if something is going on...getting Proteins in? hydration? some walking? have you talked with your NUT about what you've been eating and what he/she could advise? Hang in there
  25. Please don't take offense, but I am curious...why have you been trying to advance your diet? I know some plans seem overly conservative, but I have been too "scared" to go outside my NUT's recommendations
