Sleeved yesterday
tigerbelle replied to Chellennunley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking the same thing as marfar! great to hear you are doing well....keep us posted -
I agree with SDL...myfitnesspal
-
wow...impressive to say the least...congrats and thanks for sharing such an inspirational update
-
LOL...I have the opposite problem...that is the first place I lost weight and now it's just flapping skin...of course I am 51 years old, so I guess that should be expected
-
I asked some of the same questions adargie did....everybody is different of course, but to me the choice of surgeon was of crucial importance in my process...the surgeon I ultimately chose was the third one I consulted...as Arts posted above, the relationship just needs to fit and feel right for you...I sincerely believe--based on my research and other factors--that my surgeon is the most skilled at the VSG in my city, and I had (and have) great trust in him....for me that was crucial

my plan doesn't allow starchy carbs, like potatoes, rice, bread and pasta, until at least 6 to 8 months post-op...I did, however, eat some watermelon at about a month out and should have waited another month...I also ate some almonds around that same time and should have waited a few more weeks...both foods gave me stomach issues after eating just a small quantity...but at 3 months post-op now, there isn't anything I've tried--including salad--that has given me digestive issues....all that being said, the best advice I can give, though, is to try to follow your NUT's or doctor's plan as closely as possible in these early stages

I agree with nursepez about precautions with your clotting history...I have fortunatelly had no physical issues with my surgery decision...very little pain, a smooth healing and recovery (and this was a big deal to me because I am diabetic)...no vomiting and very little acid reflux...my glucose levels have been great post-surgery, and that was the main motivation for the surgery...my weight loss has been slow but I feel as long as I am going down that's good...my only challenges have been--and remain--emotional and psychological ones....this is a BIG lifestyle adjustment, make no mistake about that going in...for me, it has been extra difficult because of my emotional addiction to food and using food as a source of comfort and anxiety deterrent...without my "friend" food, life these past three months has been difficult and challenging....the lifestyle and behavioral changes are still a work in progress for me, but I am proud of my success so far...the sleeve is a great tool and an aid...while others have found that their hunger is greatly decreased or non-existent, I still have hunger (both real and "head" hunger)...the sleeve, though makes the hunger easier to control and limits greatly my ability to over eat even if I wanted to...as a 3-month post-op, I can tell you that I don't regret my decision...good luck as you make your decisions
-
congrats on your success

I agree with the other two posters....horrible

I think you are right about the exercise...I think that is why I am a slow loser--because I just don't have the energy to do much exercise

How did you survive giving up caffeine and sugar?
tigerbelle replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering the same thing...that sounds terrible -
One Month Post-Op and still feel BLAH.
tigerbelle replied to DebCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel, and you've got some great advice so far...I concur with the other posts...I am two months out and still having low energy levels...I too struggle with the balance of calories, fluid, and protein...most days after work I can just barely get in a 20-minute walk...I think we all just have to do the best we can and realize we are going through major lifestyle changes as well as surgery recovery...hang in there! -
How did you survive giving up caffeine and sugar?
tigerbelle replied to Bronco0605's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my NUT allowed caffeine after the first month (after the healing process)...as for sugar, I don't really crave it -
Onederland! Where have you been all my life?!

Hunger - 11 days post op
tigerbelle replied to Ngonzalez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 months post-surgery and still experience hunger sometimes...the sleeve helps me not to overeat of course even when I am hungry...and it takes much less food to satisfy my hunger...this is all about re-learning behaviors and habits...the sleeve is just a tool, and I don't think it ends hunger for everyone -

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?
tigerbelle replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am definitely a slow loser...at another stall now...was sleeved May 6 and have lost 34 pounds...I think the main reason I am not losing more quickly is lack of exercise...and that is the result somewhat of lack of time to exercise but more the result of a lack of energy...I am not giving up though! -
Drinking water too soon after a meal

getting my drain removed!
tigerbelle replied to aliekat55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have a drain, but I recall some people on here saying it didn't hurt near as much as they had been told...I am curious (I don't mean to hijack your thread)--did you have the surgery laparascopically? did your surgeon all along plan to leave a drain in or did that just occur because of unexpected factors? the reason I am curious is that my surgeon didn't put a drain in at all with me nor did he have any plans to do such -
4weeks out, general uncomfortable feeling
tigerbelle replied to cjjenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wonderful...let us know how it goes -
everyone else is giving you the right advice about consulting your PCP...and it looks like you are taking that path...I am also a diabetic who was on both the maximum metformin dosage and 40 units of Lantus (long lasting) insulin each day pre-surgery...I did not have a pre-op diet, other than the day before surgery, but my dr had advised me to get off my meds altogether once I started the surgery prep diet...since my surgery (it's been almost 3 months now, the only med I take for diabetes is half of a metformin pill each morning (and I don't really need that)....please keep us updated as you work this out with your dr...hang in there and take care of yourself!

4weeks out, general uncomfortable feeling
tigerbelle replied to cjjenkins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your dr will be able to give you the best medical advice of course...I suspect you are just getting dehydrated from lack of fluids...and probably aren't getting in your protein either since you think food is yuck...hang in there -
girl, you are skinny! in a good way...congrats on your success
