    Anxiety and surgery

I know this isn't going to be a popular answer, but I have been one who believes almost everybody could benefit from counseling...like the previous poster said, try to make lemonade out of lemons in this case...or give the therapists the benefit of the doubt that you may have some underlying issues that need work before you undergo this surgery...I am one who is a therapy veteran--diagnosed with several anxiety disorders and still on meds--plus still struggling with emotional eating even post-WLS...make no doubt about it: this is a difficult emotional journey and most of us need all the help we can get

    Liquids

add me to the ones whose plans count protein shakes as liquids...also, my dr told me not to worry much about reaching the protein and liquid goals the first couple of weeks...I was only getting in about 40 to 50 ounces of liquids and 40 or 50 g of protein, and he was ok with that

    Mashes potatoes

It was two weeks for me, too, until my NUT's plan allowed soft foods...even then (and now still at 4 months post-op) my NUT's plan is no starchy carbs--no rice, bread, potatoes, cereal, crackers, etc.....I very rarely cheat with this rule, and the few times I have, it's only been a bite or two

    bravo...keep up the good work!

    Salad

similar to Arts I don't eat salad much because I am focusing on getting proteins in, and the salad will fill me up too fast...I love salad though and do have it on occasion along with my meal...if I eat more than a few bites though it takes up too much room in my stomach, and I can't get much protein in...unlike pre-surgery, I don't have salad only as a meal any more, and I admit I miss that (I am almost 4 months post-op)

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

vicki and misslady, congrats to you both...I am curious about your loss of weight and the concurrent change in clothes size...I know everyone is different, but one thing that I am disappointed in (a little) is that I haven't changed clothes sizing much and not sure why...I had surgery May 6 and have lost 45 lbs.; I am not thrilled with how slow, but I am still glad to have the 45 lbs. gone...at the time I had surgery, I was wearing a 22/24 (mostly a 22 in pants, for example)...now I am only down 1 size; i.e., now I am wearing 18/20...mostly a 20 in pants...in tops, I was wearing a 2X and now a 1X...it's a little discouraging to think it takes me 40 lbs to lose a clothes size I did this for the health benefits (and I am doing great in that respect), so I am not complaining--just a little perplexed

    Anyone NOT able to exercise?

I don't have the energy to exercise...I am 3 months post-op...I think it has slowed my potential weight loss down...I try to walk in the evenings when I can, and I do plan to return to at least some moderate exercise at the fitness center soon (when the fall begins)...best of luck to you

I know the feeling and wish you the best...hang in there...it soon gets better

    I think I have a problem....

The advice to consult your dr asap is good...I have never heard of anyone at one month post-op losing 79 lbs....I understand that you recognize this is a serious issue, but I don't think anyone on the message board is going to be able to truly and safely advise you...we can provide support and encouragement in this case but not sound medical or therapeutic advice

    No liquids with meals

I am 3 months out and this liquid restriction thing is still a challenge to me...I still feel the urge to drink during meals but I am learning....I seem to be ok as long as I stop drinking about 15 minutes before eating....but I am uncomfortable if I drink 30 minutes or even 45 minutes after I finish eating

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?

I am definitely a slow loser but that's ok for now....I was sleeved May 6 and so far have lost 43 lbs...only down one size actually--maybe two depending on sizing method...I was wearing a 22/24 in most clothes but now 18/20...was a 2x and now a 1x...I am now 5'2" and 225 lbs...I really don't expect to go down another size until I am in Onederland

    Carbs

per my NUT, I am not even tracking carbs...she says if I follow the plan as far as getting in the protein, staying within my calorie limits and not overeating my sleeve, then I shouldn't have carb problems
  14. laura-ven, I hope my experience is like yours...I am 51 (yikes) and 3 months post-op...I definitely have lost weight in my face and neck, and I definitely think it makes me look even older than I am...I hope by the time I am a year out, I "bounce" back as well...but, like you and others, the health benefits will outweigh the looking older

    coffee?

I followed my nutritionist's instructions and didn't have even decaf coffee for the first couple of weeks post-op...then she said I could move on to decaf, which I did for a few more weeks...by the time I was 2 months post-op, I started back on regular coffee and have been drinking a few cups daily for the last month with no problems...if it had caused me any problems, such as acid reflux, I would have either tried going back to decaf or eliminated it altogether like I have carbonated drinks (even though my surgeon has no objections to them)

    do you feel BETTER? HOW?

here is my feedback, for what it's worth....pre-op I was 268 lbs at 5'2"...I have lost about 43 pounds in a little over 3 months...I cannot say that physically I feel much different yet...I haven't lost enough pounds to make a true impact for me as to how I feel physically...however, emotionally I feel good about losing some pounds, and I just had lab work that came back very much improved from pre-surgery--my PCP and I were very pleased...so I also feel emotionally better that my lab tests have improved....as for overall emotional health, I am still having issues adjusting to the change in lifestyle and not having the emotional crutch of my comfort food--that is still a work in progress, and I am working with a therapist on that...as for being tired, I am still very low energy, because of the low daily calorie count and lack of carbs in my diet...my nutritionist and PCP both say this is still normal at my stage, because my body is still adjusting...........mokee: to respond to your post specifically; my experience has been very similar; I don't have near the issue with incontinence as I did before nor do I have to urinate as frequently...I am also unsure as to the why of that, since I can hardly imagine that just losing 43 lbs would make that much of a difference on my bladder, especially since I am still quite obese and over 200 lbs.

Help! St. Louis self pay pricing!

I am in Baton Rouge...I was self-pay and did some research on both local and national pricing....that sounds very high for self-pay, and it's also quite unusual for the pricing to be the same for all 3 surgeries
  18. when I just saw the topic heading....and before I even read your actual post....my simple answer was "nothing"....you owe no one an explanation or justification

    OMG! I'm FREAKING out!

I had great anxiety pre-op as well, and it helped me to read feedback here on the message board...I recall others posting that it was normal to feel anxiety and that you probably wouldn't be normal if you didn't...all of your fears are understandable, but you have taken all of the proper steps I think in preparing for this major step in my opinion...just keep reassuring yourself of all of the things you have mentioned above...also, as I do whenever I have anxiety issues, I recommend you also just allow yourself to "feel" the anxiety...I know it sounds weird, but trying not to be anxious actually makes you more anxious, and it becomes a vicious cycle...if you just "go with" the anxiety and accept it as normal and expected, I think it will help...at least that helps me....best to you

    I know I have messed up :(

I can't add anything to the great advice given so far...I concur and also just remind you that this is a great place to come for support and questions list you have.....best to you
  25. LBD, thanks for the update. I am glad you found out more information and now can make an informed decision...I was self-pay for the entire package, which included the nutritionist appointments...if you are overweight, I don't see why insurance would not at least cover the nutritionist visit, but I don't know the particulars of your plan...meanwhile, please check in here as you feel the need, because I have found a lot of support here, as well as information and just as a place to vent when I could use it...best to you
