Will the sleeve really help me?
tigerbelle replied to sweetie022972's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
sweetie, I am pre-op, too, and have some of your same concerns...I know what you are asking, and this is what I am expecting from my months of reading this forum about the experiences of others...I know the feeling of eating when you aren't even hungry to the point of a big discomfort of feeling stuffed--still even when I am miserably stuffed now, my stomach is obviously stretched to the point that I will eventually digest the food and it won't make me throw up...I think once I have the sleeve that I will very quickly be able to eat to the point of being miserably stuffed-feeling, but with the sleeve it will probably all come up instead of digesting...I am not sure yet if this is an effect that is long-lasting or maybe just a year or two out...some people say that eventually you can eat anything just in "smaller" quantities--I've heard of people gaining back weight even after having the sleeve, so it must be possible...some people who've had the sleeve for a few years say that they still can't eat much food at a time and not enough to gain back weight, so I guess it just varies with the person -

good going...glad you've got a supportive husband -
I also think you should be proud of yourself for how far you've come...I think a lot of us can relate to that self-hate cycle that can sabotage any of our efforts...when I go through self-indulgent times like you describe, I know that I start beating myself up about it, which leads to more stress and anxiety, which of course leads to more yearning for my comfort foods...unchecked, I can get in a very vicious cycle I admit...when I have VSG, I am going to do my best to forgive myself for occasional slips and just get back on track...hang in there

Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??
tigerbelle replied to kalex21211's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks very much to both of you. I think either this week or next week there is an informational seminar at Woman's by either Dr. Bellanger or Dr. Hargroder. I am going to try to make it if I can. On your first consultation for surgery, did you meet at all with one of the drs. or did you just meet with a coordinator or nursing assistant? I will be self-pay so I don't need to go through all of the paper work and red tape associated with insurance approval. I just don't want to feel intimidated by having to fill out a lot of applications and go through a screening and pre-consultation process. That will just make me nervous and reluctant. Again, I appreciate the feedback, and Shellid I may take you up on your gracious offer and PM you if I have any more questions -

Anyone with anxiety. Did it get worse after
tigerbelle replied to mrscable2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly the fear I have (I am pre-op)...I know that I use food to soothe my anxiety...and one of the reasons I can't stay on a diet is that if I am craving food and start feeling anxious, I go ahead and eat because my fear of having a panic attack is greater than the fear of the consequences of overeating...but I know that I have to do something to break this emotional cycle, and I am hoping that prayer will help me overcome what I believe is going to be a difficult emotional recovery, and that the result will be a healthier me--both physically and emotionally -
Any Drs in Louisiana used and Cost??
tigerbelle replied to kalex21211's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Thanks, Doreen. Actually I was considering seeing either Dr. Bellanger or Dr. Hargroder. I love Woman's Hospital and don't think I would consider having the surgery anywhere else but there. My only concern was that Bellanger and Hargroder are so popular that I worry that I won't get personalized attention post-op and will just be one of the masses, so to speak...how has your post-op experience been with him and his staff? -
me, too

ha, ha, BKMama...I think I might just change my avatar to a pic of one of those pink precious pony toys

I have participated on a bunch of message boards (not WLS ones but others) and pretty much everyone is the same in that regards; i.e., there are always a few participants that see the negative side of everything, are insulting in the name of being honest, and demeaning and critical of others and their opinions...I think it is a part of human nature we just have to deal with...if it means anything, I think there is a lot less of that on this message board than most others I know

Gastric Plication Surgery
tigerbelle replied to ItsMorningLove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for the link...I spent some time on the site...I am intrigued by this relatively new procedure, that I am surprised I had never heard of previously...that site, of course, focused mainly on the postivies of plication compared to VSG, since I think the sponsoring center is specializing in the plication procedure...I would like to find more information--especially from perhaps a neutral site that would be unbiased...if anyone finds such a site or info source, please post here....thanks -
fyre, as others have said, I think my dr has me on zoloft because of the combination of anxiety and clinical depression as my diagnosis lizv: I am curious as to how long you have been on anti-depressants if you feel comfortable saying...I have been on them for about 20 years and don't know anyone who has been on them that long...I just wonder sometimes of the long-term effects...I, too, have also been in therapy for that same length of time ::sigh::

Does everyone vomit post-op?
tigerbelle replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
encouraging...thanks, Dee and laura -
I have known PCPs to prescribe antidepressants without requiring psychotherapy or counseling...I think it depends on the reasons...I recall that when I first went on an antidepressant (I am on zoloft), my PCP would not prescribe it unless I was also seeing a therapist concurrently...hang in there, fyre

Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
tigerbelle replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Most of these posts have been very encouraging to me...I am praying that VSG will at least help me keep my type 2 diabetes under control...currently, I am having a difficult time controlling it, and my last a1c was around 11 having been a diabetic for over 10 years now, I am starting to experience some serious complications, and it's scary--so scary that I have decided to proceed with WLS (even though that also frightens me terribly)...thanks for the words of encouragement, even though I realize some of these posts are over 2 years old...I would appreciate updates from anybody or new feedback...best to all -
I would not disagree, fyre...it's just that most of them are half my age!
