Whats the deal with soup and Mashed Potatoes following surgery?
tigerbelle replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had no appetite...unfortunately, I still do, but I still cannot eat much quantity-wise....I think what others are saying is correct about not eating enough to really matter from a carb perspective...I am staying away from starches, including potatoes, just because I don't want to generate even the potential for carb cravings -
what happens if you don't get enough protein in?
tigerbelle replied to oldskoolsooz's topic in Food and Nutrition
I am 3.5 weeks out, and I don't think I can eat enough real food yet to get in even 60g of protein...my dietitian still has me drinking 2 shakes a day along with 3 very small meals of real food...it is definitely hard getting in all the protein and also to get in all the liquids..most days it seems I do better with one or the other but not usually both on the same day -
How did everyone's eating plans go? I did not have the day off so I didn't go to any picnics or BBQs...I did, however, have a craving for BBQ and stopped by a BBQ restaurant to pick up a to-go meal. Of course, I will be eating it the rest of this week. I am only about 3 weeks out, so maybe I shouldn't even have had this mini-meal at all..I had a grilled chicken leg (no skin), about a teaspoon of sauce, and about three bites each of green beans and baked beans...here is a pic (this is on a saucer so it looks like more than it was)...I was actually surprised I was able to eat that much, and it's kind of scary..I am full, though, from it...what do y'all think?

girl....you are halfway to goal at only 2 1/2 months out?! that is fantastic...you are definitely hearing the "fat girl" talking...it doesn't at all sound to me like you are in danger of failing...every other time I assume you did not have the sleeve as a tool...give yourself the credit you deserve!

Diacouraged ... Gained a pound
tigerbelle replied to Denn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at my appt with my dietitian last week, she advised me to not weigh myself any more than once a week...of course I have not "obeyed" that part...I have stayed on the eating plan...just yesterday on these boards I was reading that a lot of us hit a stall at the three week mark (that was today for me)...wouldn't you know it that this morning when I got on the scale I was a pound heavier than the day before...I remembered what I have read on here so I didn't let it upset me too much...now if this continues you will hear me whining and crying on here -
I think the smoked tuna dip would probably qualify as soft food, since I was able to eat chicken salad at two weeks out...what else is in the tuna dip? I am now 3 weeks out and would probably eat it...now--as for oysters...I am a Louisiana girl but I wouldn't even try oysters (even baked ones) only a month out from surgery...my dietitian has approved me for flaky fish, as well as shrimp, tuna and "well-picked" crabs...no mention of oysters being allowed...I know post-op diets can differ dramatically, so if I were you I would consult the dietitian or your doctor

This might sound stupid
tigerbelle replied to jmonique78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you are talking about losing 10% of your body weight pre-op? this is an insurance requirement or your surgeon's? -

wow...congrats! -
I would call my surgeon and go to the ER or Urgent Care...wouldn't take any chances--it could be a leak...hope it's just something temporary

praying that you are healed soon

I would love some you prepared that yourself?

I still get that gurgling sound in my tummy as well, and I am almost 3 weeks out...I only got sick when I ate some watermelon a couple of days ago...the beans could be causing gas, and cottage cheese is a dairy product...how about trying some peanut butter; can you have that? how about some moist chicken cut in little pieces?

Sleeved May 9...depressed, regretting having they surgery!
tigerbelle replied to princesx01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sorry you are having issues...I was sleeved on May 6, and I am thankful to have not had many problems physically...emotionally it has been tough....week 2 was the worst for me, and I was so hungry all the time I was also doubting I had done the right thing...things are getting better each day though..have you talked with your dr about why you might be having problems keeping things down? are you in physical pain, too? -

lookin' good...I noticed in your before pic that you had a sandwich in hand--was that deliberate? -
The best powder I've tried is the Unjury Chocolate Splendor. I also use a GNC Amp whey powder in Vanilla and add PB2 powder (peanut butter flavor)

tigerbelle replied to crazeegl99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that is all normal...I am also 17 days out and experiencing about the same as sherrypep...the only thing is yesterday I ate some watermelon, and my body did not like that -

for me, corn is on the starch list, and my NUT advises against any starches for at least 6 months

Will I ever be able to eat my Faves again?
tigerbelle commented on adrianewycuff's blog entry in adrianewycuff's Blog
my nutritionist told me yesterday that I could have small portions of carbs once I am 6-8 months out...she discouraged me, though, for things like the pasta and bread (I am Italian and love them, too), because they can trigger cravings again and definitely stall any further weight loss...I am hoping that months of healthier eating will put an end to my carb cravings, but I can't imagine never having pasta or a piece of bread again -
just strain the soup well so there are no "stray" pieces of chicken
