Tomorrow is my surgery
tigerbelle replied to mariadt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
best wishes for a smooth surgery and recovery...check back with us when you get a chance post-op...I was extremely nervous the night before my surgery, but things went better than I expected--definitely better than it did with previous non-WLS surgeries I've had...sometimes you just have to trust in your choices--like trusting your surgeon and his/her skills -
May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?
tigerbelle replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am very happy and encouraged when I read these posts...I read every one even though I don't respond to all of them...I can relate so much to what most of y'all are saying -
how do you feel when you eat too much...
tigerbelle replied to jmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my answer is pretty much what GypsyQueen said -

May 2013 Sleevers!

amgood, thanks for checking in with a status report...sorry about those first few days post-op but sounds like you are overcoming and have a great attitude...I don't know what protein shakes you've tried, but I haven't found many I can tolerate...my favorite so far is the Unjury power in Chocolate Splendor flavor...I like shakes as cold as possible so usually I mix a scoop with some low-fat milk and ice cubes and blend in my Ninja...sometimes I add a scoop of PB2 for peanut butter flavoring....best to you for continued success -
it sounds good...but my nutritionist doesn't allow any starches (bread, crackers, potatoes, rice, etc) until at least 6 months out...therefore, if I follow my plan, I could not eat the pita rounds or the tortilla...now I have been eating hummus with chicken (chewed very well) for a couple of weeks now and love it
-
I could have cream soups on full liquid diet...some egg drop soup can be prepared fairly thick, so I wouldn't try it until I was on soft foods, but that is just me--my very conservative self

I am 5 weeks out, and I get this funny feeling where it just seems that the tip top of my stomach is being reached...I think how you are describing how you eat now is not really "scared" to over eat but what I have heard some call "undereating" the sleeve--which most veterans say is a good practice...so far I have yet to over eat my sleeve capacity to where it has made me feel ill--a little uncomfortable maybe--but not ill or close to reflux or regurgitating...I hope to keep it that way

Just remember.....

LIssa, you've got the right attitude -
I am curious to see the responses to this..I am 5 weeks out today and have been too "scared" to try salad yet

I screwed up... I think.

to all my fellow stallers at 3weeks +, I think we need to start our own sub support group what shall we call ourselves? the "stallers" sounds too much like "stalkers"...maybe we could call ourselves the IMPS (for "impatient losers")...I guess I am just trying to be light-hearted and find humor to deflect my continued frustration...I was telling leantoit in a personal message that I was thrilled when I got on the scale this morning and saw a one pound drop...now you know it's pathetic when you've stalled so long that even a one-pound loss thrills you...but, I am perfectly aware that the assumed well fought for pound might return once again tomorrow morning and I know I shouldn't be weighing every day but I just can't help it now...let's just all hang in there together and support each other...oh, and I sincerely am happy for my fellow May sleevers who are experiencing quicker losing -

bridget, my experience is about the same as yours...eat between 600-800 calories and exercise level about the same...I will try your suggestions as well -
glad things are moving along!

May sleevers! How much have you lost so far?
tigerbelle replied to mrsplusamericajacksonville's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
cinward, I am past the point of frustration now with my weight loss...I lost 20 lbs the first two weeks when I was on the post-op liquid phase; as soon as I started eating soft foods, I hit a stall...for the first week and even the second week, I tried to be patient and listened to others who had stalls up to 2 weeks...but I am now 5 weeks out from surgery and have lost maybe an additional 2 lbs in the last 3 weeks...I just think it is ridiculous and unheard of...I am following the program my surgeon and nutritionist set for me...some days I get 500-600 calories in but can't quite reach my protein goal...on days when I meet or exceed my protein goal, I may eat between 700 and 800 calories...I am also walking daily...pre-surgery, I was pretty much eating what I wanted, and I am certain I was eating 2000 calories most days...and I wasn't doing much exercise if any...I wasn't losing weight--true--but I wasn't gaining weight either...it is very frustrating to make such drastic changes to your body and with your eating habits but to not see results...I have been worrying about it seriously for over a week and am almost to the point of regretting the surgery...but it's not reversible and I have to continue the program...I am basically just throwing my hands up and just convincing myself that "it is what it is" -
bdo, it will get better when you can move up to soft or pureed foods...I had a difficult time with the post-op liquid diet...I was getting so sick of broth
-
I also had smooth peanut butter starting with my soft food phase and had no problems...haven't tried nuts or raw veggies yet
-
axd, how much salad can you handle for a meal? do you make them yourself or buy them ready-made?

Awesome protein shake!
tigerbelle replied to VSGKasey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great update, Kasey...Lisa O, I think she is talking about the Syntrax Nectar brand of protein powder...I was not a big fan but many people like it a lot...you can order a sample pack off a website for sure, because that is what I did instead of ordering a big tub of one flavor -
several people have posted that it is not safe to swim until your incisions completely heal...one of mine has still not completely healed and I am 5 weeks out...I don't know what type of vacation you are planning, but it looks like you will be only about 2 weeks out...I would not have had the energy to go on any kind of trip at that point, but everyone is different...I might have done a vacation where you just basically lounge about, but not anything that had physical activities like swimming

This has been a magical week!

good job...keep up the outstanding work (and I know it is work) -
my dietitian just advised me to focus on getting in protein and liquid requirements and not worry about calorie count...she said I wouldn't be able to eat enough during the first several weeks to take in excessive calories..she was right...I am almost 5 weeks out and have been tracking my calories daily...the most I have taken in daily is about 700...I think the ongoing recommendation is around 800 daily

great job, Janice...I am still praying to end my almost two week stall as of today (my one month surgiversary) -
thanks for the response...I don't think I will even attempt it until month 4 or maybe 5...did you have trouble with red meats at all? I definitely won't try something like steak for several months but what about something like ground meat or deli roast beef?
-
fiddleman, remind me...about when can I try eating a salad with lettuce? I am one-month out today and am still a little scared to try raw veggies of any type
