I sort of did the same thing. The blog I started (link below), is not meant for people I know, as there could be things in there that may make people feel bad. Not that I'm trying.. I'm just putting it out there, once and for all.

I've been on Actos for around 2 years now, and the diabetes is one major factor in my moving forward with VSG. In all this time I've been on this medication, I find that I actually struggle to keep enough sugar in my system, especially between Breakfast and lunch. I find if I don't have a substantial enough breakfast, my BG takes a dive. During my initial consult with the VSG surgeon, he said he wanted me to cut out the liquid calories, including any milk as part of my plan to lose ~ 10 pounds before the surgery. So, no more Cereal for breakfast. When I met with the dietitian, I asked him about recommendations, and he suggested replacing breakfast with a Protein shake/drink. Well, today, I had one for breakfast, the 11 oz Premier Protein Drink you get at Sam's & costco. I started feeling like crap less than 2 hours after... meaning, that the meds are preventing that breakfast from lasting for me. I'm considering stopping the Actos. Have you had a similar issue? What did you do?

Of the folks who've had this done already, has the possibility - slim as it may be - of things going wrong motivated you to do an Advanced Directive document? I've been thinking I should take this step for some time, and now that I'm on this "journey," I'm actually motivated to get it done. What say you?

Is it me, or is that kind of a crappy prize?

What Are You Going To Do After You Hit The Reset Button?!

I want to go shirtless when ever, where ever it's appropriate; the beach, doing yard work, etc. -
What Are You Going To Do After You Hit The Reset Button?!

Be careful what you wish for! lol -
This just in from Captain Obvious: Step 1... stop taking showers. Step 2, stop brushing your hair. Ok, okay... since I'm bald, I'm probably not the most sympathetic ear... sorry. I'm just hoping the hair on my back does the same thing.

Isn't this what the NUT requirements are for? To teach you what to eat after the surgery?? My first appointment with NUT is this afternoon, so I'm just spitballing here...

Sounds like a party I once went to!

So Excited Yet So Nervous!
ArcusX replied to meredith004's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Here's the up side: I've yet to talk to or read that anyone regrets the decision to take this life-changing step. Sure, the first few days, you will think, "what was I thinking?!?!?", but that will pass. Good luck to you both! -
I don't see any reason you can't be BOTH his wife and his girlfriend! You look incredible in that red dress! Congrats!

Well, at my appointment yesterday, the insurance consultant assured me that I am, indeed covered. After asking if she's sure at least 3 times, I think I'm going to go with her version!
-
Well, tomorrow is my "clinic day," which seems to be the first real appointment where I'm supposed to meet with the doctor, nurse, nutritionist, etc. I think before they schedule this, they sort do a little pre-appointment vetting, checking my benefits. I'll know for sure then. I'm not holding my breath though.

Nessa - you don't really say, but if it's someone at work, you might think twice about it. There are many, many sayings about dating someone you work with. Sure, it can work out, but odds are slim in the long term, and if it doesn't you don't want to have to go looking for a new job - unless you already dislike it!. That being said, there are (inappropriate) ways you can be sure!

Your Cigna is better than mine. I figured mine would require 20% or ~ $6k. After reading above, I called. My policy doesn't cover any bariatric surgery, at all. Maybe my doctor offers a deep self-pay discount... or... time to look for a new job. Hmmm....

For me - when I excercise , beats per minute (BPM) was important. At one point, I had downloaded an application on the PC what detected the BPM of an MP3 file that was probably about 90% accurate, and I manually updated the BPM field in iTunes with that value. Then I created a smart playlist for songs between 119 and 121 BPM, which was about the sweet spot for me. One of my favorites, as I recall, was Metallica's Enter Sandman, probably their most commercially successful songs, and there's a reason for it! I'll see if I can export that playlist and post it here.

Awesome, Eric! Unfortunately, I'm of no help to you at all, but after watching folks here at work do a couple of 5k Mud Run's in the past few months, I intend to have a similar goal as above. One of the guys said he was going to do this one. It actually looks like a lot of fun. Good Luck!

You can probably find it at BevMo, no? I don't know what it is about Yuengling... it just seemed average to me, but folks from PA really love it!

Yesterday afternoon, as my youngest son - age 7 - was wrapping up his homework, he asks me the following question, out of the blue: "Daddy, did you eat a lot of candy when you were a kid?" I had no idea where this was coming from. I said, "Oh, I don't know... maybe more than I should have. Why do you ask?" "Well," he says, "because you're fat." And he doesn't say it in a mean way. In fact, I took it as quite the opposite. He's trying to make the connection, I guess. There wasn't any more to the conversation beyond that. After the exchange, he went about his business and I mine, but it's something I keep thinking about. More on my blog

Innocent Question From My Son
ArcusX replied to ArcusX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No, it wasn't like that at all. It was pretty innocent and matter of fact. I wrote more about it on my blog (see my signature). -
I hear ya! That and the long wiry gray hairs growing out of my eyebrows now.

Here's my recommendation: http://www.amazon.com/Billy-Jealousy-Hydroplane-8-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B000A5CPJ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347470104&sr=8-1&keywords=billy+jealousy+hydroplane+shave+cream Fully endorsed. My photo doesn't reflect it, but I've gone the way of the razor. BTW: are you saying that the hair loss is a result of the sleeve, or is it more of a general comment?

My neighbor is 4-years in on his sleeve. He said he can't really tolerate the carbonation. Last month they went to some pub in Boston - the oldest in the country - and he indulged in one pint. He said 20 minutes later, he was throwing up foam in the bathroom - which he expected - but still said it was worth it. 99% of the time when he's drinking, he's sipping high-end tequila - either on the rocks, or fake rocks. I'm preparing, mentally, to give up beer. Figure if I indulge, it will probably be Maker's or Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey on the rocks.

Hello all! I'm a new member here at VST. I'm in the "considering WLS" stage. I'm leaning toward doing it, and I'll be going to my required first "seminar" with the bariatric surgeon that my PCP referred me to.in just a couple of days. (Odd that "bariatric" trips up spell check here!) I've decided to actually do a blog on my - it seems that everyone is calling it this - journey. Other blogs that I found last week mostly began at the point of actually having had the surgery. See the link in my signature and tell me what you think. I'll try to keep the rambling there Is it just me, or are there hardly any men here? Is that because that many more women are doing WLS, or that we just don't largely "talk" about it? I look forward to connecting with you!
