Will vsg work for me? What is full?
Jrr replied to VSG Tommy B's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would say yes because the Doctors plan should have Snacks laid out for you also and what are acceptable snacks. I like goat cheese from whole foods because it's low fat so a slice of it rolled in a slice of turkey breast with a piece of fruit works. Not to heavy and keeps the hunger away between meals a good NUT will also have lists for you to try. -
It is normal when I was rolled into the OR and introduced to the team I really had a case of o'crap what am I doing. After waking in recovery with nothing to drink or eat It really hit me what did I do. But I would do it again and advise anyone to do it. I feel like Superman and have had no problems or side effects. My energy levels are high and I'm only 3 weeks out. Good luck and enjoy your new life.

Where to begin lots of people who get sleeved get reflux after the surgery it eventually goes away or can be controlled by diet, meds or you best friend which is a roll of TUM's in your pocket. Only you and your Doctor knows your case a sleeve to a Roux-N-Y would not be alot of fun. Think hard and Make YOUR decision with alot of thought. The sleeve is more about portion control and timing not eating till your full. -
sounds like you are still suffering from the dreaded anethesia mouth I had that problem when my knee was done. Found out all anesthesiaoligists use a different mix of drugs had no problem with any other surgeries.
-
same here but had to wait till first Dr post op visit to make sure things were good, but was allowed decaf herbal right after in the hospital. Take your own bags to the hospital they have a real crappy selection........
-
all ready in the bag, I also use them to make cracklin gravy gives a great flavor, Cant wait for my next stage gravy is on my nuts list.
-
I buy the Mac's brand from Wally World nice combo of crunch and airy chunks go down with no problem. No food value just a filler type slider food.
-
that's what my doctor and nut both said and a member of our group got reflux from starting too soon.

Having been raised in the salad bowl, I have eaten Broccoli all my life along with Cauliflower. The only major problem I know of is raw or not well cooked cam cause some people to have gas like cabbage does to some people. Well steamed alleviates most of the problems, soft texture might be better rather than crunchy.

all Doctors have there own views on the time frame for your healing, alot is based on there own procedure and experience doing the procedure. Not all Doctors use the same procedure, the surgery is not assembly line medicine. I would go by your Doctors specific recomendations not what others think on the boards. Now for the flaming to begin having done the vertical sleeve you have opted for the most dangerous of the Bariatric procedures, there is more that can go wrong with it than the others. Infection, leaks, perforations Etc. So I know it's hard but work on what your doctor says it gets better. As for the indigestion your best friend is a roll of Tum's hands down let it dissolve in your mouth, good luck Just about forgot my Doctor allows me 1/4 cup sugar free applesauce for my pills and he also prescribed Prilosec out of the hospital. -
Peppermint tea was one of the things my dietician suggested having on hand after surgery for nausea Etc. A squeeze of lime in the water is good. But not baking soda.

I agree all Doc's and Nut's look at things a little differently. I have tried and brewed up everything my Nut and Co Ordinator have recomended. My nut does nothing but Bariatric patients and has been for many years. She also supplies recomendation's and some really cool replacement recipes for condiments. Between her and what I know from cooking and tidbits I pick up off the forums, life is good. (My nut is also a healthy food advocate and lives the life)

Here is a link for real meat eaters, not sweet or soft they do have a few flavors, I like the original and the Jalapeno. I buy the bits and pieces and sticks. This is a soy sauce based the flavor is great let it sit in your mouth for 30 seconds before chewing so it will absorb some moisture. You really get a blast of flavor when you get to the middle. They don't do wild game like the other link I posted hope you like and will enjoy. Also no MSG. http://rileysjerky.com/

The post is not presumptuos it is a statement of what can and does happen to people who start chipping away.We have quite a few in our support group who started and caught themselves and others who didn't. Nothing about stretching the stomach but according to the surgeon it happens. The other thing that's not been mentioned and I guess should is how adaptable the human body is. The big thing that happens and you don't need to stretch your stomach is your digestive system get's more efficient and pulls more nutrients from the amount of food that you take in.So one of the downsides or con's of the surgery is you become an even more efficient eating machine.I sometimes wonder about the classes leading up to and after the surgery that the surgeons have. Everything I have mentioned is not my ideas it was covered by the dietician, surgeon, psychologist and PA at the meetings and classes I have had to attend. No attendance no surgery, makes me wonder about other surgeons and there programs and classes.

I like Jay Rob, order samples of different brands.

makes no sense your doctor has no nutritionist who works with him, definitely not a center of excellence! Not a good situation IMHOP.

basicaly none of it is medical. That's what support groups and your Doctors team would tell you, Once you start cheating and going against the recomendations it's a slippery slope. Thats why we have people in the support groups who lost incredible amounts of weight and after a year or two it started back up, some weight more now than when they started. Pizza and Beer, cake, pastries, sodas. Just a little bit or a bite or a sip and it just grows everyone thinks they can control it. How did your become overweight to begin with must have been our outstanding self control. Sorry hope this helps some people who read this post. All the rules are really only recomendations because you will do what ever you want, you dont have anyone beating you with a hammer to do it right. Thats why there are a lot of eventual failures it's not the Doctor its your mind set and will to get it right and change your life style for the better. Forget about the idea Now that I can eat BBQ and Cheeseburgers like normal people. If that's your attitude you were not ready for the surgery and you will probably fail.

I still make my own when Im in the mood but good store bought is a change of pace. To me I have gown up on homemade Jerky or basoically since I could walk. Most of the store bought to me is junk with all the adds, brown sugar, pineapple juice. Too me Jerky is salt, pepper and meat. But I learned on the ranch that we would chop up Jerky fine with a knife amd use it like snuff. What I do now is chunk it toss it in my Ninja and it comes out shredded, makes for a great traste treat, I also eat it whole but justa thought

Funny thing about taste Bud's, I love Chobani and some other Greek Yogurts but, Carbmaster to me tastes sweeter than a spoon full of straight syrup.....
