FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
JackieV replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I wanted to stop back in and see where everyone is at with eating. I was sleeved 2/4 and with pre-op (21) I've lost 100lbs. My scale is at a stand still for a little bit and I'm having to evaluate my calories. Where is everyone at? I've been reading a lot about our bodies needing more calories and it's good to up them from time to time. I decided to take the plunge and up my range to 900-1100 calories. I am nervous and feel like I am going to gain. Realistically, I should lose with anything under 1600 since I'm still over 200lbs. (217). Right? Today was hard to get in all those calories calories but I ended with 982. And the last hundred was thanks to a horrible choice of a handi snack cheese and crackers. As I ramble. Is anyone eating higher calories and still losing? -
How Much Are You Eating At One Year After Surgery?
JackieV replied to KaitlynnHughes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking "down 97" .... Funny how we all can see the same sentence and find different meanings. I didn't even think 197. -
I think it's great that your far enough along to share the news but I don't think I would do it at your sisters party. Let her enjoy her day. Once you announce the pregnancy all the attention will shift to you. You will have 31 more weeks to spill the beans, however this party is in celebration of her and I think it's important that she is the sole focus of the day.

Give yourself time to grieve. Like you, I lost my third pregnancy. At the time I couldn't imagine how any woman could go back to living a normal life after something like that happens. Everyone will come out and tell you the stories of their miscarriage. Some will try to comfort you and some will try downplay your hurt. Be true to yourself in this time. The only thing I can offer is that eventually the pain will fade. I still miss the thought of what my Charlie would have looked like or acted like. What they'd be doing at this time and how old they'd be but it does get better. I'm now in a place that I look forward to meeting my sweet baby once I get to where I'm heading.

Another quick update. I hit my surgeons goal of 60% excess weight loss yesterday, woke up today and dropped a few more pounds which puts me at 100lbs down. Yay, for my sleeve. -

I'm not a success story yet but I thought it was time to share my progress. I was sleeved 2/4/13. I've lost 95 lbs since my pre-op started.

For me, I embrace shape wear. I don't plan on looking for plastics for a couple years since I want to give my skin a chance to rebound. It's not pretty but I'd rather have the skin then the fat. It's a win/lose situation.

1-2 lbs consistently?
JackieV replied to shannon crotts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, after the pre-op and first month, I've been losing 1-2 pounds about 8-11 per month. I thought this was slow but I am just shy of 6 months post op and I'm down 95lbs. When these smaller numbers add up, they lead to huge accomplishments. -

How long til I can eat more than 4 oz?
JackieV replied to Brownrek's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5.5 months out. I can eat 6 oz of yogurt but 2-3 oz of solid food is pushing it. -

feb 2013 sleevers weigh in

5 to my surgeons goal. I am thinking I have anywhere from 40-70 until my final goal. I plan to play it by ear and see where I am most comfortable. My biggest piece of advice is to listen to your body. It took a few months for me to stop eating once i felt satisfied. Early out, I would eat to clear my measured amount or until I was uncomfortable. Now I stop at the first hint of fullness. I make sure to eat lots of protein but I don't treat this as a diet. If I want something bad enough I will allow for it. I really love my sleeve because I can have 1-2 bites and be over the cravings. From time to time I will notice bad habits creeping back and I zap them quickly. Whenever my weight loss starts to slow or i feel like i am slacking i will cut back to the basics of protein and low carb. The plan I've been following is 800-1000 calories, 60+ protein and under 70 carbs. I was on a stricter plan but my nut changed things after a few months since I had already lost a lot. I also think it's important not to compare yourself to anyone else. I remember being so frustrated that I was behind everyone else. After the crazy beginning loss, I've been averaging anywhere from 1 to 3 pounds a week, about 11-12 a month. It doesn't seem like a lot but time is on our side, it's added up to huge numbers. -

Stool softeners: don't forget for post-op!
JackieV replied to KittyLouSou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was hesitant to take miralax even those it's recommended over and over on this page. I started taking fiber tabs which made things even worse. My surgeon explain that fiber will bulk up the stool but not make it pass. The miralax is a softener that will make it pass. I started miralax after two horrible bouts. Took one dose every night, then moved to every other. Then every 3 days. So on and so forth. It's allowed things to move just about every day ( which I am thankful) if I notice things slowing, I will take a dose and by the next morning, all is good again. -
Miralax is the best thing I've ever done post op. I don't know why I was so stubborn to start using it. I started taking one dose every night, then as things progressed, I switched to every other night. Then every few days. I am 5 months out and will use it every couple weeks now.

The goal weight number
JackieV replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been given a goal weight yet. They were aiming for 60% excess weight loss to be a surgical success for the sleeve. Honestly, I didn't think I would lose it so I never thought of a goal weight. I am 9 pounds away from the 60% at 5 months out and now I'm having an issue figuring out my ultimate goal. I never thought I would get this far. At first I was thinking I would stop at 170 since that was the smallest I've been in my adult life and I felt good at that weight. Now I've been thinking I will take my sleeve as far as it will let me. If I ever reach 150-155 I will think about switching to maintenance. -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
JackieV replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone, The further out I get, the less I cruise around these boards. I wanted to update. I had surgery on Feb 4th and I'm down 85 pounds which includes the pre-op. Everything is going well, my hair is falling out like crazy, I can fly with my new wings on my arms but I wouldn't trade it for a minute. Hope everyone else is doing well. -
I will be 5 months on the 4th and can eat about 1 oz of dense Protein, I can't always finish that amount. In the mornings I try to eat a 6oz yogurt, somedays I can't finish, somedays I can. There are certain foods I can eat way more of, but I've never been able to eat more than 3/4 cup.

Honestly, who has had zero problems
JackieV replied to sparker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4.5 months out and no problems because of the sleeve. My only issue was a dermabond allergy, and it was minor. -
tired of being lectured on here

I haven't read the past 7 pages or so but for me hunger had returned. Keep this in mind as you go along this process. I am 4 months post op and its not close to before but I still get hungry.
