I am sure this sounds silly but I will be wearing and utilizing my maternity wardrobe for pants. I buy the secret belly fit from motherhood and the same pair of pants will fit for at least 4 sizes.

I am the 14th, day 9 of the pre-op diet. So far so good. I am ready to have it done and over so I can not stress about it anymore.

Going in to be sleeved in 20 min
JackieV replied to kelliteenor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay, wishing you am easy recovery. -
Good luck today everyone. It's weird to think I will be there in 1 week. Check back and let us know you are doing well.

I am on day 4 pre-op. My diet is 3-4 protein shakes and a 400 calorie meal at night. I have a limit of 1,000 calories. I've been hanging around the 800 calorie mark and getting at least 70-80 grams of protein. I've read that you can add sugar free pudding mix to protein shakes to change the flavor. I thought it was a great idea. My question is this, can I mix a pack of sugar free pudding and a protein shake together and let it set up to a protein pudding? I did it today and it was awesome. I had 1/2 a serving today. ( 1/2 pack sugar free pudding, 1/2 a protein shake). The pudding adds 100 calories per box so I didn't want to eat more than the half serving. Do you think that is okay? Does it make a difference how your shakes are mixed? I don't see the difference if I drink it before its set vs. when it's set. Thanks in advance

What did you need after the sleeve?
JackieV replied to JackieV's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you everyone, some great items I didn't think of. Rosehips- I plan to use the Wellnesse liquid. I searched on the here earlier today and saw them recommended. I almost think it was you that posted. (Or a similar profile picture). Have you tried them? -
Anyone using a Fitbit?
JackieV replied to Strangefruit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love my fitbit, I am a huge cheapie and paid 37 for mine ( new) and I think it's great. I plan to fully take advantage of it in the next few weeks. I also have it linked to my food tracking program. ( lose it) -
I have been having cold feet the last day or so. I know I can handle the post op but the actual surgery scares the crud out of me. My husband thinks I crazy and said I will be fine but I can't help it. I worry that something drastic will happen and I will leave my boys without a mom. I have to keep talking myself into it. I've been under general 1 other time for my wisdom teeth and did great. I am 29, obese but no other health issues. My surgeon said my risk factors would be way lower bases on that information but I still worry. I think I plan to hold my breath until about 5 weeks out|

Are protein shakes PRE-OP harmful or helpful?
JackieV replied to ashleymullen's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My pre-op diet is 3-4 protein shakes and 1 lean meal, not to exceed 400 calories. Any clear liquids as well. My total pre-op diet can't go over 1000 calories a day. -
What did you ask your surgeon?
JackieV replied to sexyjimenez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked tons of questions... Besides their stats on leaks/death I asked the following. Is the surgeon around after hours if a leak is found at the ER? If he thinks the sleeve is right for me? Hospital stay? If they use a drain? Size they use, since it can be anywhere from a 28-40? How long before I can pick up my kids? What has he seen as far as complications and their protocol? How much weight I should expect to lose? If they allow gas X and mouth spray post op? If they do a leak test? I know I asked a lot more but I don't have the paper in front of me. -
I got my date today. I will be on Jan 14, 2013. I notice my fitness pal is listed a lot. I use "loseit" and I can't recommend it enough, I find it easier to use.

Pre-surgery jitters. Less than 48 hours!
JackieV replied to Christie1186's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi AudOne, I am also in South MS. I have my apt today to pick a surgery date. -
I am also going to a MTF, I go next week to pick the date and do the final paperwork. The longest process was the psych eval since our base doesn't take dependents.
-
Super close by. I am originally from CA, but we are stationed here.

I will be having the sleeve next month. I am in Biloxi.

A few weeks ago I was 98% certain I wanted to go ahead and have the sleeve. I have one more appointment and then I can get a surgery date. My insurance covers everything. After some soul searching I decided to start a pre-op diet that would be very similar to how I would have to eat the rest of my life. I gave myself a few guidelines, I wanted to stay under 1000-1200 calories, 60-80 grams of Protein and 64oz of Water. I also wanted to give myself a head start dealing with head hunger vs physical hunger. After the first 3 days everything fell into place. I have no problem hitting protien goals and staying below the 1000 calories. It's still early but at this point it's starting to become second nature. Each day that passes I want the sleeve less and less. Has anyone experienced something like this? I am currently down 9 pounds from this, it's just over a week. (I am sure it's mostly water) I know that most of us have had great success with weight loss in the past but gain it back. After talking with my surgeon he explained that there is a 2 year window where the surgery will cause weight loss, after that it's all you. He has seen numerous patients put the weight back on. Sorry for the rambling but I guess where I am at is this: Is it worth keeping up this lifestyle to lose the weight without surgery, even though it will take longer? Or is surgery the answer since you can't go back? After reading some posts where people will lose 3-4 pounds a month, I keep thinking that I can do that without surgery. Now I am not sure that the risks of surgery is worth it. Everyone I work with thinks I am nuts for having second thoughts. I would love to hear what other people have to say about this.
-
I feel the exact same way. I know we've all lost before and have gained it back and that's what scares me. It scares me with the sleeve and without the sleeve. It hit home when the response said that when we fail, the sleeve is there to make sure we don't blow it. That's exactly why I liked it the idea in the first place. I also want to make sure you know I didn't say that I think anyone is weaker or can't do it on their own. I think that this is a great tool and its awesome that people are taking control of their life's. If anything I admire then because I am looking for any reason to not have it because I am chicken ****.

I've been a lurker on this site since I started thinking about WLS. I am now 90% sure I will be going through with surgery, and 100% sure if I do it will be the sleeve. I am a military dependant and already approved through our MTF. So far I have attended the group meeting and the one on one appointment with the surgeon. Tomorrow I will meet with the Nut, from there I have an mental heath apt and then I can book the date. The nurse is thinking end of Oct to Early Novemeber (sooner depending on mental health) , I feel a little overwhelmed but excited. A little about me, I am 28, almost 29. 5'6ish and 309ish. I have two little boys, aged 3 and 1.
-
Tomorrow? I am super excited for you. You are going to do wonderful. I am also a catastrophizer but really the odds are on our side. If anything else had the same success rates I don't think we would think twice.
-
Thank you guys. The last 10% is because I am a chicken and scared of the actual surgery part. I have very little doubts that I will do great after. It's been the constant debate in my head about if something drastic happens, I don't want my boys not to have me. I know logically I will be around a lot longer and have a better quality of life with them with the surgery.

I had my first visit with the surgeon, I am starting to get excited. How are you coming along?

3 Month Post-Op Visit
JackieV replied to Robyn Owens-Miille's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am just starting this journey so I am not sure how good they would be, but walmart has a brand of protein shakes with 42 grams. It's. 300 calories which seems high but that's 1/2 the protein most of us will need. -
I had thought about using them after surgery. I know at times you can sign up for deals and they are reasonably priced. If they work I plan to become a distrbuter for the discount.

What Did You Name Your Sleeve?
JackieV replied to pretty-pink's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been brain storming since deciding on the sleeve. I am 90% certain her name will be Beatrice. My reasoning has to do with her currently being a beast.
