OK. so a little background on me. I am severely allergic to all dairy products and I cannot take things like whey Protein shakes. I am on the 1st day of a 21day pre-op liquid diet that i have to do. My diet is supposed to stay between 800-1000 calories a day. I am using soy Protein powder for my shakes with just Water. (I did ask if I could use a bit of rice, soy or almond milk instead of skim milk when needed and I got the ok. SO that part is covered. I was wondering if I could use tobasco or any other type of zero calorie hot sauce in moderation in my broths? It is going to be hard for me to live just on shakes, broth and Jello for 3 weeks and I was hoping tobasco would add a little flavor into my diet during this phase. here is a list of what I have: ( if anyone has anything they would like to add or any ideas that would be great) 4lbs of chocolate soy protein powder 50 pack of on the go crystal light mixes 8 large bottles of poweraid diet apple juice diet cranberry juice 30 8oz packs of free range chicken broth 6 32oz low sodium chick broth containers 1 32oz low sodium beef broth sugar free popsicles tea various sugar free syrups (love these already various sugar free candies and throat drops (If someone could suggest a good sugar free gum that would be great) I got 3 of those suger free jello packs that walmart sells.( I actually kind of like them better than the regular jello brand) I guess all in all I have to come to the conclusion that the time is upon me and I need to get used this very restrictive diet until surgery. Also if anyone who has gone though this already can comment on any tips that helped you get through it. It am doing this for what seems a lot longer than most and I just hope I can stay strong and get through it. Thanks.

Pre-Op Liquid Diet Question.
yanik replied to yanik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea. I heard that many people have problems with anything spicy post op. I surely hope that I am not among them and can have it. I will most likely use it for now and then I would wait until I made it past the liquid phase post op to try anything spicy. -

Pre-Op Liquid Diet Question.
yanik replied to yanik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thank you. this was the answer i was looking for. I think if i have the ability to add in some variety then things will be easier. For example. in terms of the soy Protein shakes. I got the holiday pack of trevani sugar free syrups. adding in a little vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, etc.. makes things easy I can do this! -
Pre-Op Liquid Diet Question.
yanik replied to yanik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like that quote. I am already down 1 cup of tea 1 8oz broth and 3 Jello cups today. feeling kind of full strangely. I know its going to be hard, but I keep telling myself that I have no choice because I want the surgery to help save my life. The thing is that I am doing 3 weeks of this then after the operation I have another 3-4 weeks of liquid to do lol. I am basically saying goodbye to food for a while. lol.. just sounds strange when i say it. -

http://www.sunherald...scape-from.html So if anyone was watching the news today. There was a report of 132 prisoners escaping. I would expect this type of thing to happen in the more dangerous border towns, but I was under the impression that Piedras Negras was one of the more quiet border towns. Now as for my situation. I have my sleeve date on Oct. 30th. with Dr. Alvarez. My deposit was sent in. Going to start my pre op liquid diet soon. Bought plane tickets and made hotel reservations. Is it just a strange thing to have this story come out like the day after I make all my travel arrangements. I dont believe in bad karma or signs..., but still... should I be concerned? like some sort of cartel drug war raging in the streets by the time I arrive. lol I am still going to go regardless because my plane tickets are non refundable and im not really scared. Just want to hear peoples thoughts.

Well i just confirmation for October 30th. just over two weeks after my Bday. I am waiting on the pre op diet info and the particulars on how to book my flights, deposit, and whatnot.... Now the countdown begins. I just hope that things go smoothly and I can come back home without anyone noticing anything other than my rapid weight loss.

I also researched and found that he has a great reputation. When you got out of surgery was there a lot of pain and gas? I know the walking helps from what i hear. I am flying down from the east coast. I guess one concern i have is post op. I know after the 2 days in the hospital i get 1 more night in a hotel and then fly home. I am wondering if the flight home will take a toll. I know that when i fly my feet swell a bit. I just hope it is not that painful in the stomach area on the flight home.

Thank you for your kind words. I actually plan on not telling anyone in my family at all. I have one of there information on my medical forms in case of a serious emergency, but I cannot bare a huge fight with them. You see. my mother is one of those people who goes to what she thinks is the "best" doctors. So I think even if I made a choice for a us doctor that was not on her list it would still be a fight and going to mexico to do this would just be too much for her to bare. In fact I may never tell them about it and let them think I lost the weight on my own. Maybe it will be better that way. A bit of good news however. My medical forms were received and are under review. Hopefully soon I will get a confirmation date of my surgery soon. I am not looking forward to the 3 week pre op diet, but I know its something that I must do in order to shrink my liver size. I agree with you that insurance companies make you jump through so many hoops only to deny you in the end. God forbid they actually help someone lol. Luckly I found out early on that my insurance would not cover me so I have to go self pay.

I just started the process today with Dr Alvarez. Susan said I could go on Oct 30 or Nov 1st. I am waiting to hear back on what I can have on the 3 week pre op diet I'm supposed to have. Can you tell me how late before your surgery you can send your deposit in. I have heard only wonderful things about dr Alvarez. I know he is almost double the price of some of the other mex docs but I don't mind spending a couple of extra grand to get the best guy. Around where I live they wanted 25k plus separate anesthesia and hospital stay costs for self pay. To top that all off I would have to wait on a 6 month diet even though my insrance is a no go. Plus a shrink, blood work and a nutrtionist all out of pocket..... yea right... so I'm going to waste more time. I think not... I am looking forward to finally meeting Dr alvarez . He seems to truly care about people.
