    The dreaded word: Exclusion

Maybe we should start a petition for those in Florida to our state insurance commissioner to have this covered and to force these employers to pick up riders or cover it for those of us that need it medically. If anyone is interested on petition ideas or letter ideas write me reyes1178@earthlink.com I am tired of this not being taken seriously. Maybe if enough voices are heard something will be done. My husband works for walmart and they totally excluded these surgeries because they just don't care or want to fork out money. Let's get it started right here don't wait these are our lives that our being played with. I want to live past 28 to see my four boys grow up!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I got the same answer from aetna (excluded). I decided to call back more times to see if I got another answer and each time I did. Call them back and tell them that a surgeon told you to ask if the company you work for would pick up a "rider" for the surgery if it is medically ness. Good luck!!! If this doesn't work talk to either or both the employer or insurance and tell them your thinking of contacting your state insurance commisioner.
  5. Just to let you in on what I have learned about this whole process. I have Aetna ppo in florida and some of the plans through them covers weight loss surgery and some do not. The decision on the coverage depends on the employer that provides your insurance whether they want to cover it, exclude it, or pick up a rider for it. My hubby works for Wal-Mart Distribution Center and can you believe they will not cover it whatsoever? A company that big and scared to spend a little money to help the ones that build this company. I am so upset!! I would advise you to maybe ask you insurance company if any of there policies cover the surgery or was it the employers decision not to cover it? If it is the employer then write them and your state insurance commissioner. I am trying to get everything on paper and get my denial on paper so I can appeal and start my fight with wal-mart, and tell them I will be writing the insurance commissioner of the state of florida and hopefully that will scare them into picking up a rider for me. If not at least I know I have tried and hopefully I won't die from obesity before I can slowly save the money to have it done in Mexico. Good luck!!!

    Aetna PPO

Do not give up, keep calling until you get better answers. They gave me different answers everytime I called to. If anything go for a consultation through a surgeon and tell them it is not excluded and if you qualify tell them to submit for an approval to your insurance company and see what happens. If they deny for other reasons (aetna) then appeal or be sure you have the qualifications for the surgery.
